- Recap of our trek through stages 16, 17, 18, 22, and 12 of the new Pekoe Trail in Sri Lanka. The trail traverses through many tea estates, farmlands, grasslands, and forests on everything from concrete paths to single track dirt trails to the occasional railroad track (and tunnel)!

Amazing pekoe trail. Did u manage the full trail
We unfortunately didn’t have time to do the entire thing so we just did stages 12, 16-18, and 22. We’d love to go back and complete the full trail though!
We also did Ella-Demodara trail. Need to carry leech protection. leech socks and dettol spray.
We didn't have any leeches on that section but had a number of them on stage 18 during our hike in the rain. Did the Dettol spray help?
@@marcramsey5324 yes it did. We always carry dettol + water mix in a spray bottle with leech socks.
Hi did you cover all the hike or certain stage so noce🎉
We hiked stages 12, 16, 17, 18, and 22 but would love to come back and hike the entire thing!
@@marcramsey5324 wow so nice thanks for visiting Sri lanka
Hi! I would like to learn from your experience 😊 How did you went from one trail to the other? And did you book your stay in advance? Hope to hear from you. We have one month this summer to discover the Pekoe trail and am trying to get an idea of how it works.
When we skipped over sections of the trail, we would take a public bus (or train) from one town to the next. You could also take a tuktuk in some cases because the starts between some sections are only 15 minutes by road.
We didnt book stays in advance because we were wanting to play the weather by ear which is also why we skipped some sections - we had some very rainy days :/ We would just send WhatsApp messages to places we were wanting to stay the day before and that worked out well for us!
Happy to answer any other questions! It's a ton of fun!
@@marcramsey5324 thank you Marc! That is helpfull information. Maybe it’s also an idea to stay in one place and do some stages from there. So you can leave the backpack behind. But maybe its less fun..
@MaureenBastiaansen we left our bigger backpacks in our guesthouse in Ella and told the owner we'd be back in 6-8 days to stay with her again and pick them back up. That way we just had to carry our smaller backpacks with us hiking.
But for stage 22, we booked a guesthouse in Nuwara Eliya then took a tuktuk to Kandapola in the morning and then walked back on the Pekoe trail to our guesthouse which is similar to what you were suggesting. Lots of different ways to do it!
Ah yes! What a good idea to leave your backpack like this! Thanks for the inspiration 🙏🏼
How was is with the leeches?
We only saw leeches on the one section (18) that we hiked in the rain. Leech free otherwise! We heard a spray bottle with water/Dettol mix helps a lot. You can find the Dettol in Sri Lanka but I'd recommend bringing a small spray bottle
Hey where is this? I don't think people believe this is Sri Lanka coz unreal?
