    Thanks for these hints! My neps' leaves turned a very dark green and spotty under a new grow light I bought, and at the time I thought that everything was fine.
    I then did my research, reduced the light to ~15k lux and the new leaves are a lighter green, large and healthy.
    It really is a journey with these plants, but very rewarding.

    That exact same thing happened to my N. mirabilis too! I removed the cover of my vitrine and forgot to put it back on. When I came back after 2 hours the leaves were crispy and totally dry at the edges to about 1cm inwards and the pitcher was also drying up from the top. Nearly got a heartattack, I was so shocked. But it has recovered nicely since then and had a few leaf jumps because I stuffed the dying pitcher full with osmocote pellets. The leaves are still paperthin though and if a pitcher rests on another plant and then I move it, the leaves really sag down under their own weight.

      Yes Lowland nepenthes are super sensitive to humidity ;) Even too much airflow can dry the leaves.

    Excellent video! It took me one year to make disappear my headache with the photoblushing (leaves becoming red) this video could help too many people!
    on the other hand, I gotta say I’ve never had yellow leaves but I’ve always wondered how to know if I had low drainage or too much water between the roots. A very good tip!!

    Thank you for this video. I only have one Nepenthes, never grown one before, and it was green when I received it from the seller, but I now know I gave it too much light. The leaves now have a reddish tinge to them and the pitchers have also turned red, but a new pitcher has formed and is about to open. Also the tiny new pitchers on the ends of the new leaves are still increasing in size. The leaves are very strong and shiny so I'm hoping it will recover in a shadier location.

      As long as the leaves aren't burnt, high light is OK. Some species/ hybrid like N. Gaya will get easily red. That doesn't mean it's bad ;)

    I watch the video you sent me. I liked the Austin Powers clip. Yeah, it’s an old leaf that has turned yellow and black now. So my plant is healthy, I hope. All the conditions are right, so I’ll keep doing what I’m doing. Thanks.

    I'm really worried about my Rafflesiana seedling, it's leaves used to be red, I didn't mind it turning green but it's quite pale and it just stopped growing. Literally it's almost not growing at all, not just pitchers, new leaves seem to be struggling to come out too-!
    I'm not really sure what to do, but I'll try to just be more patient for now, your video calmed me down quite a bit. Thank you for the info!

    Thank you for this video. I have been struggling for the past couple of days. My new plants, Gaya, BE4031 and BE3700 picked up some dark pink pigmentation on their leaves that appeared a few days ago and it seems to be colouring leaves. When I touched them, they seemed healthy, I repotted them into more perlite/sphagnum moss mix just in case, and now I have to wait and see…😢 humidity is always sustained at 70 in the day and 90 at night but I am not too sure what I causing it 😞

    A good rule of thumb for the watering, wait till the top layer of moss starts to go dry. It can stay damp for quite a while. When watering, stop watering as soon as you see water start draining from the pot. Otherwise you can flood it.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tips 👌. For my as I have live sphagnum that I regularly spray it's harder. But I know I go 2 weeks without watering and the substrate is still humid. ;)

      @DLCoates1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WindowsillNepenthes I ordered a ventricosa from CalCarn that has live sphagnum, orchid bark, and perlite mix. Small plant that’s got lots of leaves, couple older leaves starting to turn yellow and black, but it’s got 2 pitchers with 3 more currently growing and another leaf coming in. I did slightly overwater it when I first got it thinking maybe it was needing some and it was a little stressed from shipping, however the newer top leaves have been starting to darken up a bit more and it’s coming back up to health ^_^
      I keep it in a north facing window, that gets a small amount of direct sun in the morning, followed by a supplemental 3 hours under a T5 full spectrum LED light on medium strength. Room is kept at around 75-80 during the day and between 64-70 at night, I keep a humidifier running near it just because of the fact that my heaters produce dry heat.

    Very informative! What if the new leaves produced are smaller than the old leaves? And also, how long does it take for them to pitcher usually?

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the pitcher speed it will depend on the light+temp as for me, in summer it's way faster than in winter (on a windowsill) but I never really checked... *around 1 month* I would say.
      For the leaves size, on *Carnivero* 's website they say *"At high light levels, leaf size reduces while pitcher size increases".*

    I repotted my Gaya a couple weeks ago, I’ve noticed all the leaves turning brown. Is this because of the repot? And more concerning, my new leaf has a pitcher and there’s a brown spot on the leaf. Is this from the repot or am I overwatering? There’s no yellow just a brown spot

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you had this plant for a few months and then after the repot it's like that, it's the repot. If you repotted a new plant, the plant is adapting to its new condition... assuming your conditions are good. ;)

    Huh interesting, I was told that red leaves on a Nepenthes is a good thing. Lots of nurseries sell they plants red, so are they selling plants that aren’t great?
    I bought a small light for my Nepenthes and my Rebecca Soper is turning red while my Ventrata stays the same light green I’s been all along

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes it depends of the species for sure. Doing some research on Google Image will give you an idea of the average colours of the leaves. For example "nepenthes lowii" is showing green leaves on the search result so when mine turn red, it makes me think of too much light. I may be wrong but it's potentially a clue.
