As a reader and collector of old books I have the uncensored stories that would be hard to find nowadays. Conrad's The N****** of Narcissus is one (can't even spell the title now). The last story of an anthology is by F Prentice, The Oklahoma Race Riots (Tulsa). I'm still a couple stories away (it's on p 1519) but try to find this one today! Especially here in Oklahoma City. I've been hauling these few hundred books around for 30 years. I'm glad I did. People will eventually realize that nothing cyber will last, but a book made of paper lasts a long, long time. (many of my editions are 100+ yrs old).

They knew he was a con man, a former game show host, and an abuser of women -- at the outset. But so many voted for him -- it boggles my mind and hurts my heart. It sickens me, thinking of how that person has damaged our country. As you pointed out, he has nurtured the divisions between people, and stoked hatred. Your words are balm to my heart. May it be true that this will be over sooner than we think, so that there will be a greater chance for Americans to back off from hate and divisions, and learn to seek the highest good within themselves. The majority of the US didn’t vote him in. The electoral college did. We need to get rid of this and CitizensUnited. Then we can get our country back.

Great podcast, full of wisdom and hope. Some of my family does not understand or approve of me purchasing age appropriate books for my great grandchildren for almost every occasion. I just shrug it off, knowing that with my limited means (at the moment), the gift of books is priceless. 💖

I also give books and I have heard from the people that they were very happy with my gifts and they think that the books are treasures and they hold them for the future sharing with others. Books are timeless and they are beneficial in so many ways.
I really liked very much this reading. I am ashamed by what is still happening in America by Donald Trump. I am from a large family and to my dismay some of my sisters are still defending Donald Trump and still think he had the election stolen. It is like I don’t even know who they are anymore. The man has no integrity, and continues to turn the lies around to his own advantage like he is a victim! Your readings help calm me down and help me feel things will get better. Illinois has just passed a law that makes banning books illegal. The first state to do this.

I don't know if anyone in the US can become a pastor and gather their own flock, but I have seen the wrong people as pastors. My brother dragged (tricked) me into his reborn church once and dragged me to meet the pastor, who had beady yellow eyes and glared at me. He was sharp enough to know he wasn't fooling me.
Anyway, good to know the tide really has turned.

Great reading. A similar circus has been happening in the U.K. where I live. I am hoping lessons will be learnt from these dark times.
For decades the world looked to the USA as the leader of the free world (democracy at its best) but a tragic by-product of those great years led to exporting American “ideals”, over consumerism and a Me First mentality, not to mention non-partisan politics. Just look at the garbage movie/television industry, and the way many nations worldwide devolved into corrupt dictatorships. I long to see the time when the USA rises to its former glory of upright status and integrity that is emulated worldwide. 🙏🏻🤞🌈

Even Teflon loses it's non-stick properties after much use and you must throw it away when it doesn't benefit anyone anymore
And the use of Teflon is not a healthy thing for us in the first place. It is constantly shedding the toxins from it into our bodies. Tiny little poison particles that will ultimately make us sick and weak without any recognition by the consumer.

Trump’s defense that he has the right to the documents under the presidential records act will not hold water. He is being indicted under the Espionage Act. The reason for this is that the records in question are not considered presidential records. Like you said, they belong to the five eyes. He has no right to store, retain or distribute them. Ohhh I just sat here in my comfy chair in my bedroom to listen to any messages for us..today ictouched my soul more then usual! I am so grateful I found you! I know we contract for these times and at 76 I have seen and gone thru much and I remain determined to live long enough to see this country become a even more democratic, principled, all embracing of manners of faith and race and love whom you choose to country..I feel it's coming and hate, intolerance, violence and GREED over workers rights well prevail!

Maryann, once again I'm so impressed with your wisdom and knowledge, not just of American politics but of world history as well. I especially enjoyed this reading. It is so reassuring to know that we're going to come through this terrible period in american history with new reforms and that maybe we're going to be alright after all. You're so right about the circus atmosphere that always surrounds Trump. People want to be a part of the show. And I, too am appaled by the laying of hands by so called christians on Trump. But the thing that upsets me the most is how many enablers he has had. And how many of our leaders have supported him and let him get away with so much when they could have put a stop to him. I love how you ended the podcast with the reading from the book by Ellizabeth Strout and what you said about book banning, libraries and knowledge. May you never see book banning in your country. We all need to stand up against that wherever it starts to happen.
Another great episode! Your thoughts are so welcome. I thought the lonely maga supporter's reply was interesting too...i wanted to come and find out if he was guilty or not....she could hardly have expected to do that on that day really....but behind that fact was her tacit acceptance that she would accept the court's verdict. Now, hopefully he will be found guilty, which is pretty obvious, but many innocent people are also probably found guilty too. So what she's really demonstrating is a lack of ability to make her own moral judgement and will thus be led into whatever area 'they' wish next to lead us into. It seems one thing the coming times need to address is giving these type of non critically thinking people the ability to truly question.

A good question, not just for the US but those conspiracy theorist worldwide who jumped down the rabbit hole.
You talk about the circus, and I have compared the rallies and other trump gatherings to a Grateful Dead concert. It is an opportunity for people to be around their “own people”, possibly to get a little drunk, and maybe set up a tent and sell some items to help with expenses to get to the next event.

I remember before the 2016 election, a friend of mine who I thought was liberal told me she hated Clinton and she was going to vote for Trump because she thought he would ",shake things up". Boy, did he shake things up.
She realized what a mistake she had made when we were listening to Trump on the news and he delivered one of his signature racist rants about Mexicans. She looked at me kind of sheepishly, a bit shamefacedly. It's probably somewhat of a mercy that she passed away before the worst of his depredations.
