I worked with trains in Australia mainly big freights in sth Australia and westbound to Perth our longest are 1800 metres because the shortest crossing loop on that line is 1800 meters that’s one mile plus 200 meters that rig BNSF out of Fullerton had 9 locos I would say watching it depart it would be 2 miles or more long
