    I've always had this fascination with ancient sites like Eridu, so I thought I'd just to this little tribute to the city of Eridu, one that was was held by the Sumerians with reverence.

    Imagine 3000 years of continues use of a temple site. Perspective: think 3000 years back from today to 1000 BC. We HARDLY know anything how our world looked like.

      Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome dates back to the fourth century, and the Ka'aba in Mecca has been the holiest shrine of Islam for one thousand and four hundred years, and before Islam it was already a centuries-old temple dedicated to the traditional Arab gods.

      For sure, I was just thinking that the gap in time between the construction of the pyramids and the Roman annexation of Egypt is about the same as the length of time between Caesar and our own day. Just boggles the mind how much must have occurred during all of those centuries!

    Praised be Enki!
    I have to learn Sumerian first and then read the Sumerian King List to verify the length of reign of each king. The Sumerians had a sexagesimal (base-60) numbering system, which means they used 59 digits to represent numbers (as opposed to the 10 digits we use today in decimal system). Unfortunately, Sumerians did not have a digit representing zero, and this means they did not know of the radix point. If we did not know of the digit, we would not know of the decimal point, and this would mean that we could not differentiate between the numbers 234, 23.4, 2.34, and even 0.234 or 2340. As for the Sumerian mathematics, if they had a number, say (59)(58), that is, a two-digit sexagesimal number formed by the last two digits of the Sumerian base-60 numerical system, they could calculate the same number as 59*60+58, or 59*3600+58*60, or 59*216000+58*3600, or … or even 59+58/60, or 59/60+58/3600, or …
    The conclusion is that the given numbers in this translated version of the Sumerian King List must be corrected by someone who has a basic knowledge of reading Sumerian cuneiform numerals. And then, and only then, this beautiful documentary is worth referring to. Cheers! ❤️

    • @JustSpectre
      @JustSpectre 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As far as I know the numerical values for antedivluvian kings in SKL are in sars and one sar equals 3600 so the first ruler ruled for 8 sars and the second one for 10 sars. But the number is always preceeded by sign for year, so we know they were counting years. Why they used sars for antediluvian kings and years for kings after the flood remains mystery which lead some researchers to some unusual conclusions.
      Unfortunately even transliteration of the text on ETCSL uses numerical values, not the original counting system. If you want to tackle the text in Sumerian, feel free here:
      etcsl.orinst.ox.ac.uk/cgi-bin/etcsl.cgi?text=c.2.1.1&display=Crit&charenc=gcirc#

    • @VernCrisler
      @VernCrisler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably the best way to estimate the reign lengths is to use Newton's average reign length of 20 years per king. That way you can skip all the mathematical speculation and at least get a ballpark number for the number of years involved for a king list.

    • @windofthenightforests6927
      @windofthenightforests6927 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Jaroslav Doežel I have not read the article you mentioned. You are right, but how do we make sure one “sar” is indeed 3600 years? 3600 would be represented as “100” in base 60 and considering, as I wrote earlier, that Sumerians did not have a digit for zero, means that this number could mean either of 1, 60, (60)^2, (60)^3, or basically any power of 60. There is a transition from sexagesimal Sumerian numerals into our decimal system and that is were the math goes wrong.

    Eridu, first city established on earth.....Recently I have watched a video from Expedition Bible on TH-cam who is an archaeologist and followed the biblical account of the 4 rivers that converged at the Garden of Eden....Tigris, Euphrates, Gihon and most specifically Pishon which the authors proves through clues given in Genesis that this river flowed from the Red Sea across Saudi Arabia to the Persian Gulf below Eridu and the Ubaid cultures. For those of us who follow the biblical account it is clear this is the case which makes your statements from the King's list 100 percent true even though the translation of the dates do not match the archeological record. This also clears up the commandment of Moses to Joshua to conquest the land all the way to the Euphrates River. thanks for your good job!

    • @HistorywithCy
      @HistorywithCy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question... according to the archaeological record, Eridu and the nearby sites gradually adopted the modern technology of the day, at least when it came to pottery and tools. Both got more advanced over the ages - for example, at the earliest levels there are some simple copper tools; as time went on, these became more intricate and eventually they were replaced with bronze. So in that sense, technology did improve. I'm sure there were many other innovations as well, probably in irrigation and the like. Haha yeah those are some of my old books from when I was younger and they actually first got me into ancient history (the two Time-Life series). I actually got most of them at library discard sales. Though old and some of them are outdated, they have some great images and art that fascinated me as a kid. About fish - to be honest I've only read about it in reference to Enki, not anywhere else. Maybe in some places it was an offering but I think since cattle and sheep/goats were considered to have been more valuable (fish was probably abundant in the marshes), those would have been used more for offerings to the gods. It's a good question though and I can't say that I have a good answer because though I haven't heard or read about fish offerings at other places doesn't mean that the practice didn't exist. If I find something more about this, I'll let you know!

      Problem with fish is that it doesn't preserve well in archaeological record. It can be said it was pure luck it got preserved in Eridu. Or maybe it was the amount of offered fish that broke the statistics 😁

In the original artwork, the soldier was holding a sword but to give it more a personal touch and for fun, I replaced it with the SG. Haha that's a little history of the the channel icon.
      I love guitars and if you look at my patreon site, you'll see that I added guitars to the historic artwork for each tier. Guitars and books... my two favorite things! Do you play as well?
      Always great to hear from you and thanks so much for stopping by, really appreciate it! Stay safe!

      Yes, I'm a wannabe axeman, too, I've only been playing for 30 ish years though.
      I used to have A Gibbo Explorer, dang, that had the best neck ever!

      Wow, I've never played an Explorer but love the design. I'm not planning to buy a guitar anytime soon but if I did the next one would be either an Explorer or Fender Jaguar... I just love the look of both! You know, GnR is what really got me into playing guitar. I remember when I first saw the video for the song "You Could be Mine" from Terminator 2 and was just blown away and about a month or so later convinced my dad to get me a Squirer. I really wanted to see GnR two nights ago in LA but I was (still am) out of town. I also love the other bands you mentioned, especially older Metallica and Soundgarden.
      Ah, the good old days....

    I'm a shaman and the spirits say that "Year" in Sumerian does not mean the same thing as the modern solar Year definition.
    Also the true Eridu is most likely in Africa, as the migrations after the Ice Age 10 000 years ago forced humanity to migrate a lot as temperatures were changing and the middle East stayed bountiful for a long time allowing monolithic construction.
    Odin says it best, "Asgard is not a place, it's where Asgardians are"

    Desert environments preserve history very well. If we follow this concept, I am sure there are innumerable discoveries to be made across the desert, and geologists can help with the reclamation of human civilized history.
    As I have said many times, "we've all done this before" and we shall do it again. Human society is as old as the next oldest find. With Gobekli Tepe, there should be more of a push to discover the archaeological history of human beings.

    When i see numbers like 28.800 given as years, i tend to think that's a bit stark. The first calenders were based on moon cycles: moon calenders. The moon circles the earth 13.5 times per year. So for Alulim it would be 2.133 years our counting and for Alalgar 2.666 years. Which leads me to believe that they are not talking about acutual kings, but more about "houses" or dynasties because nobody lives that long, it's impossible. So for both a total of 4.800 years, which makes much more sense to me and would fit much more into the timeline given by archeology. It was only in the periode of the invention of writing that the first yearly calenders wich we use today appeared and the ages in the Sumerian Kinglist become more reasonable.
    Also one should take into account that the total world population at the time was something around 4 to 5 million people. Which is the size of Kuwait or New Zealand today. People had enough space to live and wars were not yet a thing. That is probably the reason that these houses/dynasties could last that long. Living together in a city was probably enough to keep wrongdoers at bay.
    Btw I do the same with the exorbitant ages given in the bible, which also give much more reasonable ages.

    Uruk was the home of An - king of Kings. His sons were Enlil (Seth/ The Devil) and Enki (Ea/ Osiris / Our god). All were from Nibiru. Enki created us. Enlil lived in Nippur. Enki lived in Eridu. Nippur was described as the 'house that was a mountain'. In the bible, Enkin is God, the Devil is Enlil. In Egyptian, Enli was Seth, brother of Osiris (Enki) and son of Ra (Anu). Enlil was the first ruler of Earth, he was usurped by Horus (Marduk) son of Osiris. They were aliens, remember this. Enki and Anu returned to heaven through 'secret gates'. Portals. But Uruk was the first city, built before there was mankind.

    The Sumerian civilization has left behind many clay tablets and cylinder seals. Those artifacts delivered us much knowledge of our past. even about the origin of our planet Earth and the creation of mankind as we know now. And also about Noah’s flood and deities that came down from heaven. But all over the world we find stories from ancient civilizations that all tell the same story about a devastating flood. To learn much more about recurring floods. the cycle of civilizations and its timeline, ancient high-tech and alien deities, read the e-book: "what I know about Nibiru". You can read it nicely on every computer, tablet or smartphone. Just search for: know nibiru

    History with Cy should read Vishnu Purana, where it is recorded of an even older city than Eridu or Jerico. Where Krishna preached the Sanatan (eternal) religion among the Yadava people at Dwarka 9500 bc (probably the first civilization, blessed by the first monotheistic god Vishnu, making the Yadava prosperous and they multiplied and spread all over India, explaining linguistic and religious uniformity). Even before that Prithu son of an evil King Vena ruled there. Dwarka (door way to India) was the nerve center of a vast shipping network, trading with all the coastal areas of Baluchistan, Oman, even Sumeria.
