    Need of AC is not depend on 3 or 5 star AC . It is mainly depend upon in which region you are living for example north or south India . In north you need Hot & cold inverter AC where as in south or coastal area you need cold A.C. Than comes the star rating . As you said than comes running time per day & how many months . If ambient temperature is high 50 degree , you need a good quality O General or Voltas make will only work .

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, the type of AC is a different topic altogether. This video was mainly about removing confusion of 3 star vs 5 star. Almost all ACs now support an ambient temperature of upto 50 degree centigrade. Previously that was not the case.

    I have seen that same 1.5 ton 3 star rating (2021) inverter ACs from different brands have different wattages starting from say 1000W to 1600W. Doest it mean that despite of having same energy rating of the same year different brands AC s are going to consume different powers. If that is true we need to check the power rating of the AC also before buying. Please comment.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gouree, always check the power rating of the AC before buying. The energy consumption will be different for different wattages. For example, here is a 1 ton 3 star AC from the same brand (blue star). amzn.to/3sWBSlw, amzn.to/3pcI87n. Each have different wattages and hence different energy consumption.

    Thanks for this explainer. Answers a lot of questions clearly. Can't appreciate your work enough.
    How does inflation affect this calculation? Assuming a 6% to 7% inflation YoY, wouldn't the 16% difference in the energy savings gap actually increase with every passing year?
    Wouldn't this reduce the duration to recover the upfront cost than what's mentioned in youe table?

    It seems like the only reason why would one choose lower rating AC is if one plans to soon move or sell the place. Because if it's a house or apartment that one plans to live in, forever basically, it's probably the best to buy the 5 star one.
    ACs are designed to last for decades. At least that's the plan. In fact, would be interesting if we had some data on how much a good AC lasts on average.
    Also it depends on the cost of electricity I think. For example in the US (depending on which part of the country, I believe), the cost of electricity and gas is a joke, compared to the cost of those things in other countries.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maxim! Sorry about the delay in response, was traveling. You are right - ACs are meant to last for decades. In general - a good AC can last 12-15 years - if maintained properly. In India, cost of electricity depends on where you live and what type of a household. The difference can be quite drastic as well.
      Frankly- the price difference I used in this video was less than 10% - as I wanted to be somewhat realistic. In some instances the price difference between a 3 star and a similar 5 star can be almost upto 20%, in which case it definitely does not make sense to buy a 5 star unless absolutely required.

    Lots & Lots of Misperception & wrong Information Provided.
    5 Star is always better than 3 Star. No matter if you are using it for whole year or Half Year. For 5 Hours or for 10 Hours.
    Lots of Added Features are available in 5 star and not in 3 Star.
    Also Compressor size and cooling capacity is more in 5star Ac. Lots of other benefits are also there in 5 Star.
    Also, you can recover the difference initial cost in just 1 year if you are using it for even 6 to 8 months in North India.
    Like from March to October.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi! Thank you :) It depends on a few different things. If you already have a lot of experience (over 3-5 years) as an engineer, making a switch to finance is more difficult (not impossible, but tough). Also depends on what domains you want to work in post MBA. If you want to continue to be in tech related domains e.g., roles like product management, tech consulting, marketing, marketing consulting - you can do a marketing MBA. Even for non-tech domains, marketing may be a good option if you want to switch to different domains. Finance will get you to a consulting, core finance, invest banking type of roles.

    Hi there, this is indeed an excellent video.
    I have a question, and I am not able to wrap my head around it. For a room size of about 90 sqft, how should I compare the overall effective cost between 1 ton 5 star and 1.5 ton 3 star.
    My factors of considering 1.5 ton also for this room size:
    1. The prices of 1 ton 5 star and 1.5 ton 3 star are identical.
    2. I may move to a bigger place by next summer, so considering safer option of 1.5 ton.
    3. We live in a hot place, where peak temperatures can touch 50 degrees and there are large windows.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Krishna, thank you :) Let me try to address this. The 1 ton or 1.5 ton should be based on your room size and the 3 or 5 star should be based on your usage parameters. So - if you are using in a smaller room (upto 150 sq ft) a 1 ton AC is sufficient. Only if you are moving to a room larger than 150 sq ft by next summer, then you can consider a 1.5 ton AC.
      That said, since you stay in a hot place, if you are anyway going to run your AC over 12 hours a day, then go for a 5 star itself. So a 1 ton 5 star AC would be a wise choice. For a larger room, a 1.5 ton 5 star AC would be required as you run longer periods of time.
      Hope this clarifies.

    • @KCMunjam
      @KCMunjam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGrapevineIndia Thanks for the quick response Saumya. Your analysis helped and I placed an order for 1 ton 5 star :)

    • @a.yashwanth
      @a.yashwanth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can think of it like 1.5ton AC will cool your room faster compared to 1 ton AC. But if that 1.5ton AC is only 3star then AC spent more energy to cool same room compared to 1 ton 5 star AC.
      And by same logic I think buying 1 ton 5 star non inverter AC for bigger room like 200sqft will be better cost wise compared to 1.5ton 3star inverter AC? My theory is that inverter function is only useful when room is bought to required temparature and compressor slows down. So we can use low capacity non inverter AC to cool bigger room so that it's always on which overcomes non-inverter AC inefficiency of on off frequently.
      Did anyone test this or have any idea?

    I do like your reviews. You cover most important points in a simapar straightforward manner. But I am quite surprised by your take in this video. What all you said is fine monetarily but the energy ratings are done to show how a user can save power/ electricity and hence environment. You forgot to tell the viewers that if environment is their priority, they should still pay that extra Rs 3000 upfront and choose 5 star appliances.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for your kind feedback. Yes, if environment is priority, definitely 5 star should be chosen. But my experience is that many people tend to back off when there is price aspect to supporting their environmental beliefs.

      Hi Gaurav, AC size depends on a number of things, room size being one of them (other factors include number of people, floor, where you live, windows facing west/east and so on) . It can be calculated like this - Room size (in sq ft) / 600 + 0.5 tons. For example, in the example you said 180 / 600 + 0.5 = 0.8 - so a 1 ton AC is sufficient.

      Hi Abhinav, 3 or 5 star determines the power consumption. Since you are on the higher floor, recommend a higher tonnage AC. So if by default for your room size is 1 ton, go for a 1.5 ton AC. If you run your AC for 12 hours or longer, buy a 5 star AC. Here are my top recommendations for a 1.5 ton 5 star AC - amzn.to/3vhSxTd, amzn.to/3h1MREJ, amzn.to/35UkVQy . Hope this helps.

      Hi Nisarg - payback is calculated based on the electricity cost differences compared to the difference in upfront cost. For example, if you are saving 200 rupees per month on electricity between 3 star and 5 star and the initial upfront cost difference is 5000 rupees, you will take 5000 / 200 = 25 months (or 2 years 1 month) to recover the cost.

    Your asumption and analysis is not on point firstly who said the tonage for room is 0.8 ton is upto 120 sq ft 1 ton 150 sqft, 1.5 ton 250 sq ft depending on room conditions and provided you use top tier brands like o general and Mitsubishi heavy duty or Mitsubishi electric... And also difference between a 1.5 ton 3 star and 5 star prices are much higher for exampledailin 1.5 ton 3 star costs 35 to 36 k and the 5 star cost 44 to 46k starting same goes for Panasonic and o general it is 48k for 3 star and 57 to 60 k on 5 star enem i brought a i general 3 star for 47k i could have got a 5 star but due to extended piping i had to spend 8k more and also use ac for less months because we don't stay here much. Even with the 1.5 ton our first floor takes long time to cool the room don't know why.. Also you said if you use your ac for 12 hours or more then go for 5 star that is also subjective...... This is what it is....

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of these are subjective based on the floor you live in, whether you have east west facing windows, size of the room, and so on. As we cannot give individual analysis for every room, we only provide guidelines which people have to apply to their own scenarios

    • @rajlovinglife
      @rajlovinglife 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheGrapevineIndia I can agree for a place like let's say Bangalore which having a pleasant weather condition you can use the ac for a lesser duration but for a coastal climate and harsh dry climate where temperature sores to extreme levels can be challenging where as to which tonnage and premium brand will serve you better actually I also need more clarity my mitsubishi electric on the ground floor takes less time to cool the room where as my first floor of 150 Sq ft o general ac takes awful long time to cool ...beats me...but as far as many videos and TH-cam analysis and ac dealers point out that you need more tonnage to cool a larger space...

    For a room sized 140sqft corner of the building ....so one wall faces east and the other wall faces north....the other 2 walls are building inward and hence dont receive sunlight. There are no windows (home theater room) built only for that exclusively. Will a 1 ton suffice ? The general axiom is that 1 ton for every 100 sqft. Whats your opinion plz ?

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a 1 ton will suffice!

      @simplysurfing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGrapevineIndia HI...but they say 1 ton for every 100 and 1.5 if its more than 100sqft in room size. Mine is 140sqft and its the top floor, 2 storey buidling. You still feel 1 ton is good enough. If its 1 ton ill be buying inverter 5 star anyways.

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, top floor does change the equation a bit. What’s the maximum temperature? I think upto 150sq ft, 1 ton is more than enough. You can try to use this calculator to check www.bluestarindia.com/roomacs2/tonnage-calculator.asp

    • @simplysurfing
      @simplysurfing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGrapevineIndia Its actually about 130 sqft. But has a closed loft (which houses the projector etc inside it) and a closed boxed desk shelf on opp side, ala kitchenette style. Also my ceilings are pretty low @9ft (lesser cubic air space ??). And the rooms are pretty cool to stand in even summer bec the entire roof has a weathering treatment + white glazed heat reflective roof tiles on the whole terrace.
      PS : Thanks for the link...The calculator says 1 ton is enough for my room specs.

    Brilliant analysis. One must keep in mind that they should not blindly go for the best AC company. Instead they should go for companies which provide good service in their cities who stock spare parts. Buying AC from HVAC contractors is the best as they are professional and have good experience. Also people should buy from AC brand showrooms who have expertise rather than buying from appliance shops which deal with many other appliances. Avoid buying AC from online stores like Flipkart and Amazon of you live in tier 1 or 2 cities. In tier 3 cities outlets are less so they can buy from online shops. It is better to buy AC from expert manufacturers like blue star, voltas etc who have a separate HVAC division

      Hi Akshay, thank you :) I agree - service is very dependent on the location of residence - I always opine that one should check the availability of service in their particular area for all appliances before buying. All it takes is a simple phone call. :) Sorry for late response.
