The 200 Mile formula was first run in Italy in 1972, at Imola. Ducati prepared eight 750 cc bikes for the event. Paul Smart, Bruno Spaggiari, Ermanno Giuliano, and Alan Dunscombe were secured as riders.
The original frames were designed by Colin Sealey and even though the bodywork was designed by Leopoldo Tartarini from Italjet (a friend of Dr. Taglioni) it was manufactured in the UK and Somewhere along the line a little fly got stuck in the fiberglass of a tank.
Just exactly how many shims are in one of those engines?? I'm beginning to understand why they cost so much to buy when new and cost so much to rebuild...
One thing that stuck out for me is how the crank just dropped in to the bearing and then the top cover dropped straight over the other crank pin, after 50 years of work on Brit bikes i have never come across that, they always need some force or driving on,did i see that correctly?
Very nicely done but I am a lifetime user of hylomar.. it is such a fantastic sealer and retains its softness forever I'm surprised you didn't use it for the gasket between the cases. Please reply
Hymolar would be a good product. We have been using Treebond for a long time and with good results too. One reason is that it is still in use by Ducati on current engines. Another is that it is grey instead of blue so it doesn't stand out as much if you see a little residu on the outside. We are no strong proponent of using this type of sealent and we only use it on the middle gasket on an engine. For the rest, we use Loctite 5923 on paper gaskets.
True, we see this on all castings of 750 round case engines. Ducati much improved their castings with the coming of the square case engine in 1975. It must be said though, that the porosity in 750 cases does normally not result in any cracks or leaking.

Another great video. I am sure more to come showing the restoration process. For your Classic Ducati, these fellows know their stuff.
Thank you for an excellent and very instructive video. It is a joy to watch a real professional build one of these beautiful engines.
Your channel is fantastic! I found it an hour ago and now watching my third video in a row! Keep them coming great content!
That was excellent , thank you all.
Awesome, getting me excited to rebuild my 860 engine. The video by tdkeyes1 on head shimming is a good compliment to this one.

I really like your bike work benches. Did you build or buy those? Great videos - really appreciate your efforts! Thank you so much!
We built those work benches ourselves.
@@BackToClassics wow. Fantastic! Would you mind sharing a few pictures or a build video if you have one? Thanks!

Great video, loads of porosity in those cases though.

@@BackToClassics indeed. I had a few gts back in the day and they were fine. My 75 750ss is also fine.
How do you fix this? Moto guzzi had the same issue.
Like a big mechanical watch
