- Look, the diesel world is held in a shroud of secrecy. No one will tell you how to delip a piston but they’ll gladly sell you a set. That being said we only milled the pistons .050 for the valve clearance and to lower the compression. If you have a stock cam I wouldn’t recommend milling the top. As far as the lip goes, we took .180 out of our lips and put a .050 chamfer on the top. Obviously feel free to go whatever direction you want to with this info.
Im a machinist and we have a pulling tractor. Im not too familiar with a duramax. We have custom pistons made but I wouldnt take anything off the top of the piston. I would just open up the bowl. Having a larger bowl allows you to run more timing without having the injectors spray outside of the bowl. If the injector sprays outside the bowl, you will melt pistons. Our piston tops are basically a ring about 1/2" all the way around with a flat bottom bowl. We also have valve reliefs for a longer duration cam so the valves dont hit the pistons. This is our tractor.

Starting a budget friendly build with already payed for Parts 😁
You guys need an end mill, for shit like this lol.
Interesting
Why does the alternate firing cam need a lower compression ratio?
How have they held up? Getting ready to tear my lb7 duramax down and machining the lip off myself. I dont think id take that much meat off the face however
Need to figure out what happened to my cummins
Just like India and Bangladesh ... Videos.. on manufacturing, lol
