I love the way Gene Hackman delivers the line "She also starred in 3 of my 'Slime Creatures' releases. You may have seen them", with such PRIDE, like they're pieces of high art or something! He was hilarious in this! Thank you, Gene, for all the wonderful-ness you have bestowed upon us! We all still love your work!
It's a very clever and subtle transition. When Harry acknowledges that he does in fact owe the money and intends to make good, Chili relaxes and tells Harry about his movie idea.
I've read the book and the movie is 100% faithful. It was astonishing how much they kept from the book. Every actor said all of Elmores dialogue, and why change it? Every line was pure gold.
I don’t understand why Hackman hated to do comedies - he’s so incredibly great in this role. This and “The Royal Tenenbaums” are proof he can be very funny on film.
I don't know how Gene Hackman does it but he is hilarious in this. "Have we met?" "Why do I have to keep looking at you?" How the hell does he make such unfunny lines so funny?

Gene’s my Danville hometown hero.
John Travolta owned this movie.

John and Gene are phenomenal

Have to watch the birdcage. You won’t stop laughing
@@richroyer4679 I have. I honestly thought that it was over the top. But… to each their own.
Even Young Frankenstein.
Don't forget Heartbreakers.
@@DavidJones-mn7ie "Cigars!"
Hackman's range is to be admired. He played both Harry and Little Bill. Think about that for a second... we're talking utterly disparate characters.
He was building a house......
How about the blind hermit in Young Frankenstein for versatility?
"I'm looking at ya. Well that's what I'm doing!" *LMAO!*
I find it fantastic that a hardened tough guy actor like Gene Hackman plays a bit more of an unsure wimpish character in this.
Hackman has said the idea of playing a spineless, not-so-bright Hollywood producer was very appealing to him.
Travolta's best role
"Why do I have to keep looking at you ?" LMOF

John Travolta... The Suave personified.
Gene Hackman is always great.
This is where it starts to get really good. I have this on DVD. I love it. Thank you.
In reality Hackman would make Travolta cry in under ten seconds.
They are actors you nut job it's what they do is act
Till the moment, Dirty Harry shows up......
Flawless acting !
Gene Hackman: still great.
Brilliant film
GTA 5 ripped this film off so bad.
AFI's 10 Top 10 - Nominated Gangster Film

chili scared Harry 😟
2023😂❤
I produce feature motion pictures
Back when TV sets were as big as tanks.
Gene Hackman is the man, without him the film would have been another Travolta flop. End of story.
Dennis Farina?

Personally I'd have named it "Get Sharty" instead
