The rest of the movie treats Ray like a joke because he's always going against Chilly, but this is the scene where you think "OK, I get why Ray Barboni is in the mafia".
Exactly! I love that aspect of the movie. It shows how dangerous Ray really is and at the same time how Chilly is just on a whole other level compared to him
It also makes you realize why he was so feared back in Miami. You can see here he is a dangerous man, he just isn’t as smart as Chili, so Chili always gets the best of Ray. Bones is still a major threat to Chili, now that Chili’s leader, Momo, died, leaving Chili with little protection from that syndicate. He stays in Hollywood because it’s too dangerous for him to go back to Miami, especially with Bones there. Even right at the end, Bones thinks he finally got Chili and is going to steal Louis money from that airport locker. The jokes on him because the audience knows there are ATF agents surrounding that locker and watching it like a hawk. Those agents swarmed on Chili when he got some stuff out of the locker right next to it. Chili wasn’t as stupid as Ray to walk right up and open that locker. We’re left to conclude that Ray “Bones” was arrested by the DEA after opening that locker.
@@RoarOfWolverine Also, as shown in the beginning, Chili at one time had the support of Ray’s boss. The boss was not willing to go to war over a coat and, while he made it clear that Momo was the main reason he didn’t want trouble, he also criticized Ray for stealing the coat in the first place.
@@WorldWar2freak94 Yes, Momo dies of a heart attack when the guests for his birthday party turned on the lights and screamed “Surprise!!”, in an attempt to surprise him. I think that’s the reason he took the case to chase the dry cleaner, who faked his death so his wife would collect the life insurance money. Chili went to the west coast to get the cleaner and took his money. That money was now Ray’s, but Zimm couldn’t understand why he couldn’t use it to finance his movie? They were all actors and stuntmen playing mobsters, until they pissed off the real mobsters who don’t just bransish their weapon, but use it to shoot you dead at the least sign of disrespect. I just loved Bo and his cartoon mobsters. He couldn’t intimidate Chili or Ray no matter how tough he talk. Chili and Ray were used to dealing with Mafia-type mobsters who don’t play gangsters, they are the real deal. That was the plot that makes the whole movie so funny. It was a brilliant idea and all of the cast were perfect in their roles. I also love the part where Bo ends up dealing with those Central or South American mobsters. They also played for real and weren’t stupid enough to open that locker. Without that money from the locker, Bo was dead anyway. Bear and Chili just ended it quicker. Once that Godfather-type saw the shark at universal, he and his men were coming back for Bo. he also wanted to know where his nephew was?
