Actually, in Germany we have swingboats on the fairs, where you can do 360 swings... it's a lot of fun but quite exhausting. For safety your feet and the body are secured with belts...
When I was quite young I've seen other kids do 360 on swings. Those swings had metal bars instead of chains. Never tried to do it myself, looked quite dangerous. It must be way harder with chains.
I have to admit, i tried to do the 360 on fairs for years back in the 70th, but i never made it because i got anxious or my body gave up. But still a great memory.
In Serbia we used to have swings with bars not chains so we easily did 360. Though to get enough speed we used to stand up and not sit on it. That way we would push swing way stronger with our knees. Start while seated when you get some motion then get up in standing position, then everything is in knees. We did 360's even with double swings, with two seats one turned toward another so me and my friend would stand looking at each other, when one pushes his knees downward the swing would move, then it would be the others turn and in two mins we would easily start spinin' in 360. Now when i think about it...have no idea why parents at the park didn't stop us from doing all those crazy shit. :D
@@oprcaljko because they did it too ^^ i've seen 3 generations of my family on pictures in exactly these swingboats. swingboats are from 1890 so i guess if photos wouldn't been expensive in the past there could be more of them ^^
in early 2000s in Ukraine we had these old soviet swing sets with rigid arms and I actually did 360s on them quite a few times, it’s hard and scary as hell but it can be done
So that bit with the different rocket positions and angles not working at the end was something I always went back to when doing my science/engineering degree - don't change the parameters of the experiment and expect the same results.
Well, in Russia (not exceptionaly by the way!) rotating 360 degrees on the swing is kind of common fun for children. Except it's not a swing hanging on chains, it's usually a rigid suspension: something like a couple of old steel water pipes. And the pivots are with bearings. And no way you can do it sitting -- you should be standing on your feet and your feet should be pushing hard to swing's suspension -- to the sides.
31:41: Saw this part of the video without sound or context. Thought Grant and Tory were rehearsing for a Michael Jackson Beat It music video reenactment.
Great video! I would love see a tour on deck to se were all of the rigging is located. Were are all of the helliards located for example. And houw does the crew work together to hoist the sails
The thing with this shooting in to water myth though, is if they're trying to replicate what is seen in the movies then they're replicating the wrong thing. In the movies the person doesn't survive because the bullets get stopped, it's because the shooters can't see them and keep missing.
It's funny to see the early 2000s misconceptions of the 50 caliber. It's like the people who still think that "a bullet flying by you rips your arm off." Unless it's a slap round and you don't have thumbs, you'll be absolutely fine. They're pretty awesome. They aren't sniper rifles. They're anti material rifles.
Me and a few friends used to do 360s on chain and tire swings all the time. It was not that hard to do if you had the balls to follow trough. So i'm kind of flabbergasted how this got busted.
I did my own experiment shooting into the creek and estimated was getting over 10ft penetration with hard case semi wad cutter 44 magnum and still mushrooming on a rock.
"But shooting into a swimming pool is about as sensible as putting a band aid on a bullet wound" Every single gun related TH-camr these days: HOLD MY BEER Oh how times have changed 😅
Clearly, soft and hollow rounds break up upon impacting the surface of water. If the object hits the water faster than the water can move out of the way, makes sense. Solid projectiles, which are made for penetration, will penetrate water.
European swings have rigid bars instead of chains. Much safer for children and your test would have succeeded the first time. Next time don't invite amateur rocket 'experts'. The one you used was a disaster.

And not a chain... rigid pipe is better.

Hell yeah, I actually done one once myself, the secret with these soviet swings is they got short arms
They used the wrong kind of swing. Even in North America, there are swings where the chains are connected to a ring around the pole that can do a 360.
14:00 iconic Tory moment🤣🤣🤣

Yep, exactly. Never tried myself (looks dangerous), but when I was young I've seen other kids do it.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if they use chains specifically so that people don't go 360 and hurt themselves.

What if they welded bearings to the bar and the chains? the fixed chain is limiting the spin.
awesome! its the Tory falls off the swing ep!
2:13 Was that the little robot from Flubber?
Yep!
He most likely worked on the practical models for the film.

Reinforce the anchors of the children's swing set *first*? Naaaww! Just add more crash pads! Tory is the best 😂 😂 😂
One of the best episodes.
Well, Tori makes a good safety officer; he’d never ask anyone to do something stupid he wouldn’t do himself, hahah.
They don’t just tell the myth….
They put ‘em to the test
I love this episode, thank you
Yes
Now thats what i call science 😅😅😅
John Wick definitely watched this episode.
Thanks for uploading these. Out of curiosity, how do you get around copyright with these?
They Bought the distribution rights for the whole show.
@ Is that actually the case or is that a full of shit statement?

One question still remains. Who are the MythBusters?
If the swing was attached to rings that rotated around the bar, the 360 swing might be easier.
i saw a video on failarmy where a kid did a 360 on a swing set but he hit the ground hard after the loop.

These were solid though. Specifically stated to be Armor Piercing.
They were FMJs, as the specialist clearly stated
