I love the fact people see a Talman bass and they mod the crap out of it. I have literally never modded an instrument, but then I got myself a Talman...
Good job. I actually like the look of the fretboard before all the dying & sanding - you've inspired me to do this to my bass, and I'm going to try for that weathered/brown/black rough kind of look.
I bought a Squier with gouged out frets. I'm going fretless with that neck. One question... Can I use Satin for the clear coat, or does gloss give an advantage? BTW, Excellent video and a beautiful job on the Bass! Mines a turtle...Lol
Hmm. Don’t know. If the frets are gouged out you will need to fill and seal them before you coat it. I don’t like the look of satin, especially over maple necks but if you’re playing live and getting sweaty, satin is probably preferable over gloss, which can start to feel “sticky”. I think it’s just a matter of personal preference.
I used very thin auto pin striping, and then several coats of lacquer over that. I measured the lines using another bass as a model, but make sure to use a similar 30” short scale bass.
It plays and sounds great. There's a little unevenness around the 10th fret on the high e string, like a flatness. But it's easily worked around, which is what you kinda do with a fretless anyway! :)
If Tony Franklin is any indicator regarding his own signature models, this type of bass is ideal for fretless conversion or assembly.
Looks cool how the fretlines start "falling off" around 17th fret!

I will always love when a musician makes their instrument personal and singular. Such a unique bass i love it. Especially cause its fretless now lol

Well done, sir! That looks amazing. I bet those pickups sound great with the fretless mod. Thanks for sharing 🤘
I love them. I am thinking about putting them on my aerodyne jazz as well.
Excellent work! I was worried at first when I saw all the wood tear-out after removing the frets... 😛
Ha! you and me both!
I am thinking about converting my TBM100. i guess that this is a sign to do so
thank you!

Hey man, just wondering what material you used for the pin striping of the frets, and how did you measure them out?

What did you use as fret markers can you explain the process please where did you get the measurements? 👍
I built a Fretless recently, used the q pounders, love it.
How does it sound ? Play?

Cool idea re the leather pic guard
Why do you put glue on the fingerboard? Is it due to surface hardening?
Can i use plywood dust to fill the gaps?
Plywood dust and wood glue is basically wood filler. I say go for it.
Wouldn't it be easier just to buy a fretless?
Not this fretless
good job man..those frets are nothing more than speed bumps. get rid of them!!!!
Needs Flatwounds! - Peter age 73
Black tapewounds these days. ;)
id rather just mark the 3rd and 5th fret, along with 12th and 15th
Let me buy it
Would have been nice to hear it ...........

you should not have dyed the fretboard tbh
