Question: can you save money by replacing the inner parts when they expire? I know helmets have an expiration date. What is BMWs version expiration date for first purchase, and do you still need to discard everything or can you just discard the inner pieces when the expiration date comes up?
Hi David, while the interior liner of a helmet is often the most visible in terms of wear and tear, the other components of your helmet such as the glues etc. also wear out over time. So, it is important to make sure you replace your entire helmet, not just the inner liner, when your helmet's reached the end of its life. The general rule of thumb for the life of a helmet after purchase is about 3-5 years, but this can also greatly depend on how heavily you're using your helmet and how well it is taken care of. Absolutely true. That is why the Arai Tour X4 (how the XD4 is called in Europe) scored best in our "Best Adventure Helmets 2021 Test": th-cam.com/video/GOapeqpA7A8/w-d-xo.html It ticked off all the boxes, and delivered a great performance in the Road Test and yes it may cost quite some money, but you absolutely get the quality you pay for in this case.

The Arai XD-4 has better venting and safety features...you'll pay a little more but Arai has more R&D in their development...full stop.
