One day when I was preparing to administer a test, I told the class they had 10 minutes to study before the test would start. I saw Jon writing something on the palm of his hand and decided I would sneak up behind him, tap him on his shoulder and surprise him. I did just that. But he held his palm wide open and showed me the words he was writing. He said “I’m writing a song, Mr. Williams.” And indeed he was writing a song! That’s how I learned he was a musician.

I'm glad Jon B survived depression, it really takes a toll on the body and mind, but I'm glad Jon used his depression and hardships as a positive influence on his music and career. Music is by far the best way to express how your feeling no matter what the emotion is. I love you Jon B.
90's music industry was so rich and diverse. Jon B was part of the many artist that I grew up listening to during that period. Many of the 90's artist have gone silent so no wonder I didn't notice he was not active. There was quite a few of them that drop off the face of the earth for a good amount of time. I felt like after Aaliyah's death many artist that I used to listen to went dormant for a long time.

This is a cold, cold industry. You either die a casualty in it, or barely survive it. There is no in between. Even maintaining is a huge struggle which eventually leads to one or the other.
There have always been those few who have shown a deep love and respect for our musical expression; Jon B is one of them! His love of R&B is genuine and that shows in his music and lyrics! I've always thought of him as they say as 'one of we'! We need to create venues for Rhythm and Blues music and performers! R&B is the music that started it all! There's no rock, no pop without the 'mother music', R&B! Contrary to popular belief, R&B IS NOT DEAD; it's at a momentary lull. If we continue to support artists like Jon, Baby Face, Johnny Gill and the host of young R&B artists out there, we can create a revival of this universally influential music!!! I've loved this music since my childhood when my sister and cousin would bring home the latest 78's and play them on the Philco ‘record player’! At 75, I've watched this music grown and evolve over the decades; I saw it give birth to 'rock and roll' and 'pop' music. There are people all over the planet who want to sing and dance like our R&B icons. And don't be fooled; Michael Jackson, Whitney, Aretha are just three of the icons of R&B despite they're often being labeled as 'pop'! Luther, Marvin, Stevie are all rooted in R&B, just to name a few more! Barry Gordy didn't want to 'colorize' Motown music in order to have a broader (meaning 'white) appeal but it, too, was rooted in R&B, soften a little for others but still l R&B at its core! During my youth, when white kids first heard R&B en mass, it blew their minds the way Hip Hop did for this current generation! Even the early forms of Rap borrowed/sampled from R&B back in the day and y'all know that's true!! Rhythm and Blues is our social dance music that we play at our parties, barbecues, wedding receptions, etc., it has been the soundtrack of our collective lives and social history in the modern era of our journey in America! It is a uniquely American musical form loved and imitated all over the world! R&B really is THE MUSIC THAT STARTED IT ALL!!!
Jon B has some hits and I’m glad he’s in a better place. It’s hard when you see artist fade away..from a fan stand point you never know all these behind the scenes issues they have. The days of real good R & B has faded...I can’t remember hearing anything now that would make me stop and listen and go wow...So I’m always listening to music from back in the day.

90's music industry was so rich and diverse. Jon B was part of the many artist that I grew up listening to during that period. Many of the 90's artist have gone silent so no wonder I didn't notice he was not active. There was quite a few of them that drop off the face of the earth for a good amount of time. I felt like after Aaliyah's death many artist that I used to listen to went dormant for a long time.

There have always been those few who have shown a deep love and respect for our musical expression; Jon B is one of them! His love of R&B is genuine and that shows in his music and lyrics! I've always thought of him as they say as 'one of we'! We need to create venues for Rhythm and Blues music and performers! R&B is the music that started it all! There's no rock, no pop without the 'mother music', R&B! Contrary to popular belief, R&B IS NOT DEAD; it's at a momentary lull. If we continue to support artists like Jon, Baby Face, Johnny Gill and the host of young R&B artists out there, we can create a revival of this universally influential music!!! I've loved this music since my childhood when my sister and cousin would bring home the latest 78's and play them on the Philco ‘record player’! At 75, I've watched this music grown and evolve over the decades; I saw it give birth to 'rock and roll' and 'pop' music. There are people all over the planet who want to sing and dance like our R&B icons. And don't be fooled; Michael Jackson, Whitney, Aretha are just three of the icons of R&B despite they're often being labeled as 'pop'! Luther, Marvin, Stevie are all rooted in R&B, just to name a few more! Barry Gordy didn't want to 'colorize' Motown music in order to have a broader (meaning 'white) appeal but it, too, was rooted in R&B, soften a little for others but still l R&B at its core! During my youth, when white kids first heard R&B en mass, it blew their minds the way Hip Hop did for this current generation! Even the early forms of Rap borrowed/sampled from R&B back in the day and y'all know that's true!! Rhythm and Blues is our social dance music that we play at our parties, barbecues, wedding receptions, etc., it has been the soundtrack of our collective lives and social history in the modern era of our journey in America! It is a uniquely American musical form loved and imitated all over the world! R&B really is THE MUSIC THAT STARTED IT ALL!!!
