  • Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel debated whether it would be wise for the Bears to trade up from No. 9 overall in the NFL Draft to land Ohio State star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. In what scenario could that perhaps come to fruition?

Why is it Chicago sports media and Bears fans always underrate the WR position? You’d rather roll the dice on lesser talent lower in the draft? Marvin Harrison Jr. is the most polished route runner in the draft. He’s virtually uncoverable, and he catches everything that comes his way. He was a pro bowl caliber receiver in college. You pair him with Caleb Williams and the rest of that offense, and there’s no stopping this offense for years to come.

It’s not a question of undervaluing him, but it’s also incredibly difficult to see how the Bears could realistically trade up to get him considering the farthest he’ll slip is to the Cardinals at pick 4. So if the Bears want MHJr, their only potential trade partner is the Patriots who you gotta imagine would be hesitant to trade out of the top 5 because they want to be able to get a top QB. It’s just a really hard circle you’re trying to square there.

MHJ is the best prospect in this draft. If the importance of the position didn’t matter he’s the best prospect in this draft class and he would go #1. Malik is the 2nd best WR and Rome is 3rd. I would trade up only for MHJ, but I would be ok with either of the 3.

One pick can protect and insure every other move we have made. Trade up for Alt. Caleb + Keenan + TE + RB + new OC + New WR are all wasted WHEN (NOT IF) we get an injury to the O-line. Move Braxton to guard/swing tackle. Davis to back-up.

Ive been in the camp of trading down taking a pass rusher then a wr with the newly aquiered pick but if all it took was to add a 2 from next year to get mhj thats a no brainer imo. I imagine it would take at least 1 more pick on top of that to move up though

If the Bears offer the Cardinals # 9 and BOTH 2025 2nd round picks for # 4, I think the Cardinals do it. It would be worth it for the Bears. Quality over Quantity. MHJ is a once in a lifetime generational talent. Caleb Williams with MHJ, DJ Moore, Allen, Kmet, Swift, Herbet. Can be an unstoppable offense.

Personally, im hoping they package that 2nd round pick from next year with one of the 5ths they have next year to move into the 2nd round this year. This draft is loaded in the first 3 rounds, id rather have picks this year. Plus it was shocking that Ian Cunningham didnt get hired to be a GM this year. After another season that trends in a positive direction, he'll almost certainly get hired as a GM next off-season and then we will get a 3rd round comp pick in back to back drafts. I think if the top 3 WRs are gone by pick 9, you trade back a few spots and take a DT/edge. There will be WRs available in round 2 or 3.

Id trade a 2nd in 2025 for Marvin Harrison Jr absolutely! You guys are crazy. He's one of the cleanest and also the greatest WR we've seen come out in years. Remember you also have to look at the 2025 class and whos available. The Bears are planning on drafting much lower in the years to come. You go up and grab that generational player now. You will have no shot to get high enough to do it in the future. 100% trade up for MHJ.

@kevinvonderscher3971 I'd hesitate to give up a 1 but if the Cardinals trade down to Minny, I could see a deal happening with the Chargers for a 2nd. Althiugh our 1st will be a late 1 anyway and we will likely have a high 2 (Carolinas). We would basically be trading up slightly in 2024 to obtain what you couldn't in 2025 talent wise. How many drafts offer a #1 receiver in the late 1st or early 2nd. Not often.

Look at Super Bowl champs of the last decade. Teams like KC yes have won with that top dog No. 1 receiver.. but they have also won without them. If I’m the Bears I’m doing as others here have suggested and trading down. The O Line talent towards the top of this draft is insane. You want an “e”nsurance policy that Caleb Williams has an environment to THRIVE you continue to upgrade that O Line both in talent and depth. Right now the two most physically imposing OL I’ve seen are Fuaga and Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon. Talk about demolishing opponents JPJ has pancaked more guys then IHOP. Seriously look at his vids they’re unreal. I’m all in on him if we can get a decent trade down Bears 9 and 75 for IN/NO/LV 14 and 45ish. JPJ at 15 and either receiver or edge at 45 Keon Coleman, Marshawn Kneeland those kind of guys rated highly by DJ Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks former scouts themselves.

Ok my issue with taking a WR at 9 is that who is going to accept less targets? Allen carches around 100+ passes on a good year. DJ will catch what, 100 passes? Kmet 60-70? Theres not enough targets for another superstar and keep everyone happy to draft a WR3. JSN in Seattle was drafted late 1st round with 2 established guys and id say his season was a bit of a disappointment. Thats my concern if Odunze is there at 9.

By all accounts, Ryan Poles is a long term team builder. Not a win-at-all-cost gm. Trading up for a wr1 when there are 3-wr1's in the draft and one may fall to your team is NOT a move you want to make for the long term. It would cost team capital in future draft picks. Anyone that advocates it is brain dead as far as building a team for the long term. If Odunze is there at #9, you pick him and smile. Plus, by all accounts, Odunze a team captain at Washington, (Since when are top wr's team captains?) looks like he is as good of a person as he is a player. Add him to the great DJ Moore at wr who also is a great person is about as good of a win/win as you could expect to hope for. IF the Bears luck out and come out of this draft with Caleb Williams AND Odunze, you will have to say it is the best draft for the Bears since Gale Sayers and Dick Butkis.

The team has zero on talent evaluation, with Justin gone, the only thing we know is they want a white to be the face of the faranchise. It’s a simple calculation. Brian Urlacher was a freaking Saftey in college. Rosevelt Colvin was a beast. They didn’t want to pay Rosey. They wanted to play Brian. If it’s my decision, I would have kept them both.
