I’m 24 years old. For most of my teen years I hated watching people be on their phones so much. It was super cringy for me. But in my 20’s I slowly became that person and didn’t notice it. As of January 2023 I’ve been SM free and I didn’t realize how addicted I was until I tried to stop. The first 1-2 weeks are the hardest. Even the muscle memory in my hands would automatically to try to open apps that were no longer in their spots on my phone. It was so weird. But now I don’t even care about SM. The relief feels so good. It’s almost like weight being taken off your shoulders.. no more feelings walking around with a foggy mind either.

Im a 23 year old female and I have literally NEVER had social media. I have never even been on any of the sites. Due to this i am very confident In myself, I workout daily, I read, I hike, I'm a chef, I own my own home, own my car, I work full time from home (a job I love) I don't watch t.v, I'm only on YT maybe 30 minutes a day and that's usually only in winter bc I have a giant vegetable garden in the summer, hike, swim and offroad etc. Please, quit social media you really do not need it. If you think you'll lose your friends, you probably will. Because when they (and you) have to make a conscious effort to text or call them, you'll realize how many true friends you have. Not to mention, be beautiful for yourself, workout for yourself, eat nutritious food for yourself, nobody benefits, nobody is inspired and frankly nobody cares for more than the second they pause on your post. Go get a life and live it for yourself.

@Rob2Skuttered ikr LMAO hilarious. This is not social media unless you're making videos or spend your entire life on here, I'm late night deep cleaning right now so I just opened YT to play a story in the background and saw the notification. Obviously they're offended that there are people who don't need social media to feel accomplished, validated and worthy...how sad.

Just amazing how social media can make us create an avatar and then make us give it so much importance , we zone out of the physical world, that actually pays the bills to have that avatar in the first place.

The CDC lists some of the developmental milestones for young teens, 12- to 14-year-old, as “showing more concern about body image, looks, and clothes” and “focus on themselves; going back and forth between high expectations and lack of confidence.” In addition, the CDC lists some developmental milestones for teenagers, 15- to 17-year-old, as “have a deeper capacity for caring and sharing for developing more intimate relationships” and “be better able to give reasons for their own choices, including about what is right or wrong.” The main target of social media is the 12- to 17-year-old and it majorly affects these specific milestones. A lot of social media is promoting fake or fantasy lifestyles and body images, which makes it hard for this age group to determine what is real versus fake, how to feel about their own bodies and life, and how to form appropriate relationships with their friends, families, and dating. Influencing these milestones can have lifelong effects on a whole generation. We saw a similar situation on a smaller scale with the millennial generation’s problem with body images due to the influence of magazines, movies, and the news. We can apply the same problems with the newer generations being influenced by social media but the effects may be on a much larger scale because unlike magazines and tv, social media is at the tip of our teen’s fingertips 24/7 with social media applications on cell phones, ipads, and laptops - it is everywhere. It’s also important to consider how social media affects children younger than these age groups. While social media like snapchat require an age of 13 or older, there is no check or balance to ensure the age of the account holder, therefore a child of a much younger age could sign up and access the content of these social media platforms. In addition, younger children look up to and learn a lot from their older siblings and watching how their older siblings interact and react with social media can influence how younger children act on or off social media. Therefore, social media is affecting children of all ages, not only their target audience, regardless of age restrictions put in place to mitigate these effects.

Kids have friends and can see plenty on their phones or at school or anywhere theres tv and internet as much as we want we can't protect our kids from every little thing. Adults suffer negative consequences too not just kids. People and young kids have died doing these challenges. People have died trying to prank people. It's just bad news. Constantly competing for who's best and likes. Its not fun it's a job and it's ridiculous how obligated people feel to put everything online. Including bullying and making fun of people. There's been at least three girls who committed suicide this year from social media bullying and videos being posted of them. kids shouldn't even be seeing the things tik tok let's on the videos. Half naked people women in thongs. one minute it's a silly comedian the next it's some nasty girl working out with a camel toe. Yet tik tok targets young kids and adults. It's disgusting.

It's because teenagers live on phone apps. Instagram, Snapchat, Tik-Tok, Facebook, Twitter, put the phone down and actually live, Try actually have a conversation with someone . That actually means talking to someone. But teenagers seem like they're never interested in anybody but themselves and the phone apps. You try talking to them and they look at you like you're from another world there like are you actually speaking to me. Their phone is more important than real life! They love the attention of the phone apps.
