The Poet's Voice: Shaukat Thanvi - mareez-e ishq huN, yaarab meree davaa kyaa hae

Shaukat Thanvi (Real Name: Mohammad Umar) (1904 - 1963) was one of the leading Urdu humorists of his generation. He was a poet, essaying, journalist, columnist, and broadcaster. Born in India, he migrated to Pakistan after Partition, working first for Radio Pakistan and then as editor of Jang - Pakistan's largest Urdu news daily. His radio character, Qazi Ji, was extremely popular, as were his numerous collections of homor and satire. He died in Lahore on May 4, 1963
