Strongly the opposite. You know, OG James was even a "sexy guy" icon at times, both for women and men. Those men were more into Pyramid-head tho, an unhinged version of James. They still are, and now women are liking him more too, because new James is a weak and overly-tolerant soy boy, well, also ofc is old and ugly too. Look closer at the scene. OG James: At first, when noticed the thing, shows absolutely no emotions. Remains unmoved for a long time, both figuratively and literally, also relaxed. Then, a sudden spike of disgust. When the thing is too close, he starts to back off and starts seeking a weapon. After he finds one, immediately stands in a "bully pose", smiling, and plays with his weapon (the stick resting on hand thing). He loves killing. After he killed a thing, he pokes it with the stick, like a kid, and says playfully "What the hell is it? It's not human". Also, need to mention - OG James operates the stick strongly one handed, while the new one uses both hands. OG MC two hands it only for an intimidating pose or in a "lazy mode". Two hand grip of OG shows prudence and power, while the new MC shows only fear and weakness with his two hand posture (the "weapon hugging", like women do in horrors). New James: despite now you cannot really tell is it a monster or a person in a very bad situation, and despite it clumsily falling in a big distance from him, looking pitifully and fun, James immediately starts to back off, while also showing an immense fear. He is not trying to get close first, to see what is it, or to call it. Notices potential weapon, when cornered. After getting it, lowers the head, and gets it in two hands, like a baseball bat, also takes the same pose. This time, his face more like of a face of bullied, and his posture is weak. He proclaims "Stay back!" with fear in his voice, and it cracks too, almost to a stutter (on "s", it was this close to the "s-stay back!"). After killing - "Is this what I saw in the fog? Whatever it is, it's not human." Not to say, the new James was following this thing a lot, and despite its appearance tried to communicate (that's why it's strange he didn't tried to help it when it falls, or at least to call it again). Almost like this lost puppy just needs someone, anyone. Notice also how much of a difference is their general posture. And I guess after this I should not even go in details, how is now the new James cannot even call a kid as a brat, or to check out a thick girl, bully the fat, etc. This James is so damn pitiful. Some of the lines are not even make sense now, e.g., the lines about him wanting just one thing from her, the fact fatso sees him as his bully from the place he ran of, etc. OG James was a psychopath, now it's more like, a schizophrenia or smt.
If I remember correctly that wasn't even planned, the voice actor just started crying part of the way through the letter because of how emotional the writing of it was and they ended up using that take because they couldn't replicate the emotion of it afterward

I feel like James’s acting in the remake is a 100 times better than the original, just because he sometimes doesn’t have a lot to say. The original is iconic I’ll give you that, but the expressions and nonverbal acting in the remake is top notch plus when James does speak it still feels somewhat powerful. Like the final confrontation with Maria, you can feel that James’s is trying to make the point that Maria isn’t Mary and tries to let her down easy while also coming to terms with what he has done. 10/10 for me

oh man, Flesh Lips was such a good bait and switch, it looked like it was going to be pretty similar, then you shoot the hand, and the pieces start breaking apart, and just when it is all over you think to yourself "I'm glad there wasn't a second one - !"
Great job on the video. The censorship of the two PH cutscenes in SH2R was a mistake. Also, the disorientation and eerieness of the Fleshlips battle was ruined by turning it into a silly 3-part fight againts Mecha-Lips. SH2R did hit homeruns with the Abstract Daddy and Eddie fights. Those two are great.

I thought the game was going to be a bit dissapointing after the first gameplay I saw. But no. Now I can say I really enjoyed it most of the time. Just some cutscenes were a bit slow for my taste (no big deal). Graphics are nice! combat is way more fluid and interesting and the big surprise are the bosses. This last thing is what I liked the most by far. And though the og will always be special this remake is very decent,very well done and I totally recommend it to anyone who wants to play some good and updated SH game! ❤
I thought the same when I saw the trailers, but this remake has been awesome, it has revived those moments of tension and fear I had back in the day when I played it. It has been one of the best games I have ever played.

I know a lot of people miss Eddie’s “Let’s party line!” I’ll admit, so do I. Personally I really like the remake. If I had wanted the Party line to stay, I’d have Eddie shout it only during the first shot he takes. Just an opening line to initiate the engagement.
this actually shows how faithful remake was to the og... in some instances, I'd say was more impactful in the remake (like when you reject maria before boss fight, I think this was done better but I suppose it is a much longer scene here than the og's). I prefer Mary's letter in the og though, it always makes me tear up when her voice starts to crack, ughnn... T_T (needed to add to balance my comment lol) angela attacking the abstract daddy missed the mark in the remake.. the camera angle is so lack lustre, there's no camera shaking even... but whenever remake angela starts panicking or crying, I feel the VA gave a good performance, albeit the awkward delivery of some of her more monotonous lines. other lack lustre scenes in remake include the chase/2 PHs killing maria; it's the same issue with angela; i realise uninteresting camera angles really take away the intensity of these tense moments! But the remake final PH battle is very impressive though, as well as the maria boss...how she tries to literally 'keep you in the dark' in the second round... overall, the remake did a solid good job! it's definitely not perfect nor tried to be an exact clone of the original, but it is its' own thing and I think it holds up as it is. Not sure why the purists are still so mad...maybe they're going through their own version of James being in denial lmao. oh well.... no one ever said the remake is better than the original....and it's not like this was a terrible awful 1/10 game either.

Yes! I think it was more confusing in the OG then in the Remake but i still love the new scene in the Remake it feels so much more emotional i think ^^ Im not sure anymore but i think there are 8 Endings in total but i could be wrong and it was more or less ^^;
Yeah, it all depends on James' mental state and his acceptance of what happened. I assume it has always been Maria each ending, manipulating James so that she can continue existing. Maria's been complicated. In the original, she's a hallucination of a stripper James saw in Heaven's Night, but with Mary's shared looks because he still loved her even when he sought a distraction when she was ill. The real Mary was dead, but his denial of her death manifested Maria as a homunuclus of the two. Then the HD remake added a sidestory where she somehow gained sentience, as if a real person when she should be a monster like the others. Maria tried to take her life early on, but as James' refused to accept Mary was dead, the town gave Maria a contrasting desire to live like a cruel trick of fate.
Saying that the voice acting of the original is bad intentionally is cope. They dont talk like real people in the original. The rewriting of the lines and the line delivery in the remake is so much better.

Exactly. If people did any research, they’d see that the only reason the voice acting was bad like that was because they didn’t have the budget for better voice actors at the time so they were forced to use unknown va’s of lesser talent. It was never intentional for the dialogue to sound like that.

@@Yorcont bruh the leg mannequins jumpscare me every time, I'm always wary of them wherever I go but they still somehow find new ways to hide from me in the places I least expect them to. And even when I find their hiding places before they leap out, it's still unsettling to see them standing/crouching perfectly still in ambush mode waiting for me
They killed it with Eddie and Laura in the remake. Their actors were really impressive! I like the way Mary was portrayed in the remake, but not Maria… for whatever reason. The OG Maria will never be topped for me, I’m sorry. Same with Angela.
Agreed… I like Maria and Angela’s bizarre performance in the OG better. New actors did a great job but felt too much like a “modern movie” to me and therefore less realistic
I think Maria and Angela were done fine in this. Angela is meant to come off sounding more like a young woman who's really distraught and lost as a result of her trauma. I think the look and the new voice match for the remake. Same with Maria, who's meant to come off as the seductress type here. I would argue that this remake has better voice direction for the more serious tone it's going for.
@@davidkozak9289I'd disagree because let's be real: that was at a time where the voice direction really wasn't the best. The acting came off as stilted in the original game. This isn't meant to sound as stilted, but rather more natural, which I believe, makes it more realistic, in my opinion. We're in a new era where there's way better voice direction for a remake that's supposed to have more of a serious tone to it, so I think the new voices are perfectly fine in that regard.
I enjoy many elements from both games - the expressive, ethereal, deranged nature of the OG, and the realistic, toned, serious remake. Personally, OG Maria wins for me. I love the actress who played remake Maria, but OG-Maria has the creepy, seductive, uncanny-valley vibe on full blast while shrouded in mystical fog, emphasizing how off-kilter and 'wrong' she is. Remake Maria, like everyone else, is toned down to fit in a more realistic approach. The actress did a great job, and I enjoy her version of the 'prison bars' scene, for example, but you just can't beat OG-CGI Maria with her uncanny and often shadowed face doing that creepy cheshire-cat grin while gaslighting James. It's very "off" and unsettling, as it should be. Having said that, all remake actors did a tremendous job, and there's no denying that the additional mechanics have greatly aided gameplay for the remake - fluid combat, better bosses, etc, complimented by the fantastic new look. It's same enough for fans of the original to get almost everything they expect, but different enough to feel like you aren't just re-treading an old game with new graphics. The extra endings, the slightly different routes, the very subtle tweaks to the OG script, a completely different acting approach, it's all worth checking, but I will also completely understand when someone says they simply prefer the original.

Т.к. это всё таки хоррор, то я и жду от него чего-то, по крайней мере напряженного, не говоря уже о том, чтобы он создавал атмосферу ужаса. Оригинал делает атмосферу какого-то неспокойствия, ремейк .. ну не делает он этого. Это хорошая игра, но это не хоррор. Большое кол-во скримеров - это впринципе признак плохого хоррорра.

Страшно идти дальше, когда экран красный и три патрона, и бежишь сохраняться. Стремно, когда целишься в манекен, а он убегает и прячется где-то. Стремно, когда на потолке видишь движушуюся фигню. Страшно, когда папочка за тобой ходит. Да куча жути и мерзости, когда просто надеешься, что пусть эта дверь будет заперта, а то за ней что-то шарится. Это же все как раз про атмосферу, а не про скримеры. Кстати, скримеры тоже сделаны качественно, от первого манекена я нормально дернулся. Конечно, если играть на нормале или без наушников, этого всего не почувствуешь.
I'll be honest, the new Maria is beautiful but why does the head look kinda big? But the Maria before the boss battle looks just proportional compared to her red and black dress.
Remake has all the camera-work and framing that I really hate about modern cinema/games. They're all way too in your face about conveying info. I get that the game looks really nice and the facial animations are top-notch but... it just doesn't hit as hard as the original. And I say this as someone who's never played the original either.
I agree kinda, the original just has a unique look that makes it more memorable and less like it was redone with the same template all modern games have

I was and, no they don't let kids do what they want its true that their direction takes more time,but you would be surprised how good some children can act with the right direction ,also one scene that takes 5 min in the game can take a day or two to record. The Voice Acting of the original is much more expressive and with more emotional charge than the Remake, the remake did not provoke me anything and it was also a bad idea to change the screen at the end "Leave" the cemetery scene with nothing more than the voice makes it so unique

Honestly what ive seen of nonboss gameplay looks like bloober went for turning it into more of an action based game not really why i liked the originals.. they felt more like an average person fumbling around in combat with both melee and guns.. Just why? I played both games, they both good. I didn't play OG in my childhood, that's why I don't have nostalgic feelings. But I liked it very much, it's one of my favourite not games, but even stories with awesome characters and sound design. But remake is done well. Something I really loved more in OG, but something was done better in remake. Graphics is much improved, a number of dialogues are better, than in OG, bossfights, lications. This is really good remake. It's not perfect, but good

Also, the disorientation and eerieness of the Fleshlips battle was ruined by turning it into a silly 3-part fight againts Mecha-Lips. SH2R did hit homeruns with the Abstract Daddy and Eddie fights. Those two are great.

Remake Eddie isn't way fatter though. Look at original Eddie's belly size. There isn't much difference in their body weight. It's just that remake's face is fatter.

Someone on twitter actually pointed out that all the other people you meet in the remake, aside from Angela & James himself, have something disproportional about them. Eddie has a severe underbite and very short nose (and terrifying blue eyes but that doesn't count lol), Mary/Maria both have unrealistically short middle fingers (slightly shorter than their pointer/ring fingers) along with very narrow shoulders, and Laura has hella long arms.
Someone else under that twitter thread said different body parts have their own significance in dreams, listed as such:
-Arms: holding a sense of responsibility, what is possible/reachable, empathy, understanding, extending love & kindness, etc.
-Middle fingers: the heart, the phallus, sexuality, rebellion, vulgarity, it might represent a sense of frustration, anger/resentment towards someone or something in their waking life, responsibility, balance & soul. They pointed out that because they're shorter on Maria/Mary, that by itself could be significant when combined with the generalized dream meaning.
-Narrow shoulders: symbolizes an omen of illness ahead, someone expecting a lot of you = could make you reject that individual, emotional dissatisfaction, lack of vitality, pessimism, being narrow minded.
-Nose: pride, discernment, perception, unresolved feeling of self worth. Disfigured/disproportionate nose: lack of confidence, public image and appearances.
Take with that what you will, if you find any of it interesting at all lol
I thought the game was going to be a bit dissapointing after the first gameplay I saw. But no.
Now I can say I really enjoyed it most of the time. Just some cutscenes were a bit slow for my taste (no big deal).
Graphics are nice! combat is way more fluid and interesting and the big surprise are the bosses. This last thing is what I liked the most by far.
And though the og will always be special this remake is very decent,very well done and I totally recommend it to anyone who wants to play some good and updated SH game! ❤
I thought the same when I saw the trailers, but this remake has been awesome, it has revived those moments of tension and fear I had back in the day when I played it. It has been one of the best games I have ever played.

I know a lot of people miss Eddie’s “Let’s party line!” I’ll admit, so do I. Personally I really like the remake.
If I had wanted the Party line to stay, I’d have Eddie shout it only during the first shot he takes. Just an opening line to initiate the engagement.
I love that the punch out James gives Eddie in the remake takes about the same time as it does with the weak-ass "first phase" in the original
this actually shows how faithful remake was to the og... in some instances, I'd say was more impactful in the remake (like when you reject maria before boss fight, I think this was done better but I suppose it is a much longer scene here than the og's). I prefer Mary's letter in the og though, it always makes me tear up when her voice starts to crack, ughnn... T_T

angela attacking the abstract daddy missed the mark in the remake.. the camera angle is so lack lustre, there's no camera shaking even... but whenever remake angela starts panicking or crying, I feel the VA gave a good performance, albeit the awkward delivery of some of her more monotonous lines. other lack lustre scenes in remake include the chase/2 PHs killing maria; it's the same issue with angela; i realise uninteresting camera angles really take away the intensity of these tense moments! But the remake final PH battle is very impressive though, as well as the maria boss...how she tries to literally 'keep you in the dark' in the second round...
overall, the remake did a solid good job! it's definitely not perfect nor tried to be an exact clone of the original, but it is its' own thing and I think it holds up as it is. Not sure why the purists are still so mad...maybe they're going through their own version of James being in denial lmao. oh well.... no one ever said the remake is better than the original....and it's not like this was a terrible awful 1/10 game either.

Yeah, it all depends on James' mental state and his acceptance of what happened. I assume it has always been Maria each ending, manipulating James so that she can continue existing. Maria's been complicated. In the original, she's a hallucination of a stripper James saw in Heaven's Night, but with Mary's shared looks because he still loved her even when he sought a distraction when she was ill. The real Mary was dead, but his denial of her death manifested Maria as a homunuclus of the two. Then the HD remake added a sidestory where she somehow gained sentience, as if a real person when she should be a monster like the others. Maria tried to take her life early on, but as James' refused to accept Mary was dead, the town gave Maria a contrasting desire to live like a cruel trick of fate.

Exactly. If people did any research, they’d see that the only reason the voice acting was bad like that was because they didn’t have the budget for better voice actors at the time so they were forced to use unknown va’s of lesser talent. It was never intentional for the dialogue to sound like that.

The freaking legs hiding in the corner had me several times, sometimes i did expect them but somehow managed to hit me once every so often.

I think Maria and Angela were done fine in this. Angela is meant to come off sounding more like a young woman who's really distraught and lost as a result of her trauma. I think the look and the new voice match for the remake. Same with Maria, who's meant to come off as the seductress type here. I would argue that this remake has better voice direction for the more serious tone it's going for.

This isn't meant to sound as stilted, but rather more natural, which I believe, makes it more realistic, in my opinion. We're in a new era where there's way better voice direction for a remake that's supposed to have more of a serious tone to it, so I think the new voices are perfectly fine in that regard.

I enjoy many elements from both games - the expressive, ethereal, deranged nature of the OG, and the realistic, toned, serious remake. Personally, OG Maria wins for me. I love the actress who played remake Maria, but OG-Maria has the creepy, seductive, uncanny-valley vibe on full blast while shrouded in mystical fog, emphasizing how off-kilter and 'wrong' she is. Remake Maria, like everyone else, is toned down to fit in a more realistic approach. The actress did a great job, and I enjoy her version of the 'prison bars' scene, for example, but you just can't beat OG-CGI Maria with her uncanny and often shadowed face doing that creepy cheshire-cat grin while gaslighting James. It's very "off" and unsettling, as it should be.
Having said that, all remake actors did a tremendous job, and there's no denying that the additional mechanics have greatly aided gameplay for the remake - fluid combat, better bosses, etc, complimented by the fantastic new look. It's same enough for fans of the original to get almost everything they expect, but different enough to feel like you aren't just re-treading an old game with new graphics. The extra endings, the slightly different routes, the very subtle tweaks to the OG script, a completely different acting approach, it's all worth checking, but I will also completely understand when someone says they simply prefer the original.
Apart from the fact that they toned down Pyramid Head's "sexuality", the villains in the remake are far superior.

Т.к. это всё таки хоррор, то я и жду от него чего-то, по крайней мере напряженного, не говоря уже о том, чтобы он создавал атмосферу ужаса. Оригинал делает атмосферу какого-то неспокойствия, ремейк .. ну не делает он этого. Это хорошая игра, но это не хоррор. Большое кол-во скримеров - это впринципе признак плохого хоррорра.

Страшно идти дальше, когда экран красный и три патрона, и бежишь сохраняться. Стремно, когда целишься в манекен, а он убегает и прячется где-то. Стремно, когда на потолке видишь движушуюся фигню. Страшно, когда папочка за тобой ходит. Да куча жути и мерзости, когда просто надеешься, что пусть эта дверь будет заперта, а то за ней что-то шарится. Это же все как раз про атмосферу, а не про скримеры. Кстати, скримеры тоже сделаны качественно, от первого манекена я нормально дернулся. Конечно, если играть на нормале или без наушников, этого всего не почувствуешь.

Remake has all the camera-work and framing that I really hate about modern cinema/games. They're all way too in your face about conveying info. I get that the game looks really nice and the facial animations are top-notch but... it just doesn't hit as hard as the original. And I say this as someone who's never played the original either.
That doesn't make sense because the remake is more subtle, Maria's death is not seen, the scenes with Eddie are not as stale.
I agree kinda, the original just has a unique look that makes it more memorable and less like it was redone with the same template all modern games have

The Voice Acting of the original is much more expressive and with more emotional charge than the Remake, the remake did not provoke me anything and it was also a bad idea to change the screen at the end "Leave" the cemetery scene with nothing more than the voice makes it so unique
disagree. i think all of the voices of the remake are 100% better. Especially angela. she flows very realistically from teary mental breakdowns to anger to a more shut down state. In the original angela just felt perpetually pissed.

But remake is done well. Something I really loved more in OG, but something was done better in remake. Graphics is much improved, a number of dialogues are better, than in OG, bossfights, lications. This is really good remake. It's not perfect, but good
