Exactly the impression I got. The atmosphere in this game so amazing that you barely need any gameplay to enjoy yourself. It reminds me of My Neighbour Totoro and takes me back to my childhood. I need a game like this on PC. If only Stardew Valley had this look. What other games like this are there besides Attack of the Friday Monsters?
One of the most underrated PS games I've ever seen in my entire life. This saga is just superb, and I wish someday they release a new game with this flavour, even knowing consoles could do trillions of polys on screen. THIS WAY is the real way to do a game like this one, and no other.
i just watch vtuber playing boku no natsuyasumi 2 and i found out this game had a sequel. it's already 6 years old playthrough but i want to thank you for playing this game and translating it. i barely understand japanese so this is really help me to understand the story. once again thank you for making this video. (sorry if my bad english)
there is nothing like this out there...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECORDING THIS! I have been thinking about this game for years, and yet not even once have I checked a trailer or a gameplay video, thinking it would be just an animal crossing clone...man was I wrong...Keeping my ps3 for this gem, will one day import it. HONTOU NI ARIGATOU.
I searched for this game since they are releasing a new one with shin chan, a series I love, here is hoping they translate it as they said on twitter, also thank you so much for this translation, it is very well made!
Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't even aware of the scroll kickstarter when I began this, but it worked out nicely! A lot of heart went into this game. It has great attention to detail in all the right places. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but when this gets completed, and if there's interest, I'll attempt one of the other games.I picked 3 because it is the easiest for me to record.
You're welcome! I'd love to get around to the others, but even translating and subtitling these little videos is very time consuming, so for now I'm just keeping focused on getting 3 out the door.
Omgggg this brings bk so many memories for me and my bro! I remember we didn’t understand a word but still played anyways ! We’d watch this exact video to try and understand , now after so many years it’s bk in my recommendations and I couldn’t be happier! Thankyou and hoping ure keeping well as u haven’t uploaded in a long time 😝😘
This game captures childhood bliss perfectly 💖 Being a carefree kid with a loving family. Feeling safe and comfortable. Getting to appreciate the calm beauty of nature. Quite moments alone to explore and savor your surroundings, mixed in with moments together with your family who love you dearly. 🥰🥰
I've been a big fan of the serie for years, and just discovered your video. Thanks a lot! These are great game, and being able to understand it at 100% (my japanese level isn't great) will help me to enjoy it even more. Now we need the other days ^^
Just watched a Mysterious PS3 games video and this game came along with them, felt in love already, found out and here I am. I'm a big PlayStation and everything Japan fan but have never heard of this game, I'd love to play this game if I still had my PS3. Thanks for playing it for me (plus point with English translation).
Wow! This is some impressive, professional-grade localization. I just finished Attack Of The Friday Monsters and I'm kind of "working my way back" through Kaz Ayabe's games. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you so much for translating this wonderful game. It was one of my first on the PS3 and I played it all the way through with only a basic level of japanese. You did an excellent job!
I would to love see a Boku no Natsuyasumi game come to the west. In fact the children novel Gone-Away Lake would be perfect for a video game adaptation in the art style of Boku no Natsuyasumi. Make it happen Sony! :)
I wish they would make an horror game like Twilight Syndrome with this gameplay. It would be simply amazing, as horror games lately are just mere "first person jumpscares" or "shoot'em all". A happy environment mixed with decrepit scenarios and creatures could even make things more scary, who knows
Thanks a lot for doing this. I'm so happy someone spent time allowing us to enjoy this little masterpiece. Your translation is really great too, and it fits so well it look like it's in game. (on a side note.. 4:20 Auntie says "why do you go play outside for a bit?" shouldnt it be "why don't" ? Though english isn't my mother language...)
First: thank you! I'm really happy to have made the game accessible and enjoyable to a wider-audience. Second: You're right. I can't believe I missed that (and that you're the first person to point it out after so long!). I'm a little embarrassed! :#3
You shouldn't be embarrassed about this ! Everything else is perfect and you're doing top notch work. Feels like you stopped doing the videos though... Does the game ends after day 7 ?
No, it keeps going till Day 31. It's just that a lot of work goes into making these (the translation is the easiest part), and I haven't had the time to continue them.
Yes! That's the idea. I'll probably write up explanations that demystify some of the activities too (mostly bug collecting stuff), which I will do as I encounter them.
This is delightful. I really appreciate having the Japanese and English on simultaneous display. By the way, I noticed one typo: at 4:22 it says "Why do you" but it should be "Why don't you".
God, I need to learn Japanese enough to be able to play something like this. I adored Attack of the Friday Monsters, and it's a damn shame none of the teams other games have ever made it to the West. Next time I visit Japan, I'm definitely gonna have to pick one of these games up.
I played attack on the friday monsters as a kid and have been looking for games like that since then. This game gives off the same vibes as I loved in attack on the friday monsters! 😀
@@yojumba Yup, it's the same developers. Also, keep an eye out for the new Crayon Shinchan game coming out on Switch. It's also made by the same people and is in the same style. Comes out in July (Japan only of course, for now >
@@Pichuscute Thx for the heads up, I will keep an eye on this new game. It looks amazing! Btw, it seems like a boku no natsuyasumi game is currently being translated to English! Check this tweet: mobile.twitter.com/obskyr/status/1404945397093654528
Excellent work (and great timing, what with the SCROLL Kickstarter). These games do incredible things with atmosphere. They're very cinematic, but in a way that retains interactivity a la the best adventure games. Voice acting's solid, music's certainly varied, and the dual-nature of playing as Boku is like I've never seen in a game before. If this sereis takes off, you ought to give the same treatment to an earlier installment or to another gem of the like.
Well, the Japanese in this game isn't too complicated. Even if you're only studied a little of the language, there's a good chance you'll be able to understand quite a lot of the dialogue!
Here's the first part of a translation of of Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 that I've been working on. It's a fantastic little game. You can see more here: loveandcreate.com/boku/
Ikr, this game was so good for educational purpose, we need dual language subtitles like this video for entire game. Rly interested to learn how Japanese daily conversation and language :3
I've been playing 2 and 4. It must be difficult to me without understanding Japanese, so I think i losed a lot of things. i've already searched how to play but it's just in Japanese too
a shame this game never made it out of japan, alongside of all the entries of this series. luckily, a fan translation patch for the second game was released, but man i wish the other games had translations too.
Japan makes some awesome open-ended "just knock about" games... I still haven't found one like that for PS3, my favorite on PS2 was Steambot Chronicles. Too bad this one wasn't localized.
Thanks for your comment! Yeah, Japan is great about making games you can just hangout in (without stealing cars or killing people). If you'd like to experience a similar game to this in English, check out "Attack of the Friday Monsters" in the 3DS eshop.
Pretty surprised and grateful there is any non-japanese playing this series. Im afraid this is one of the most Japanese videogames in its appearance and content so its a bit difficult to feel this particular nostalgia.
Thanks! That's very kind. I'd love an opportunity to do this professionally someday. I would say my Japanese has a long way to go before I get there. The Japanese in this game is pretty simple, any upper beginner or low intermediate student could handle it, I figure. I started learning Japanese when I lived in Japan for two years. There are probably less painful ways to go about it, though.
wait wait.. you did this translation yourself? it's superb. and the presentation? i thought maybe they did actually release this in english.. but no, it was just your professional editing.
Love this, but I have to ask - in the actual game itself can you advance the text at your own pace? I’ve been thinking about getting a copy to play on my own but I can’t read that quickly yet.

Unfortunately, it was only released on PS3, so there's no PC version. The game is region-free though, so if you do find a copy, it will play on any PS3 in the world.
I get this game is supposed to invoke positive emotions but honestly I find it all to be kind of unsettling, partly because the environmental renders and the ambient noises sort of remind me of a horror game. I also don't think the sound of cicadas is quite as pleasant to your typical non-asian, they are actually kind of unnerving.
The atmosphere and sounds of this game are heavenly. Thank you *so* much for taking the time to record, translate, and upload all of these videos.
Ruz Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying them.
