This is interesting, especially to me, I've put around 475 hours into this, and I would like to add my 2 cents into this. Story: Yes the game doesn't have an explicitly laid out story, you have to dig for it, literally. While mining in the caves, you may stumble upon helmets, with the help of the terrain scanner, and mining, you can find a dead dwarf, collecting all the resources he had on him, and a collectible. You also do certain missions such as "Salvage operation." or "Industrial sabotage." The former is going out to recover resources, Mini Mules, and a drop pod, left behind by a separate crew who died in the caves. The latter is one where you fight a boss named "The Caretaker" big ass robot that protects and harvests data from the planet you are on. The robot is also alien in nature, set up by an alternate, race? species? company? we don't really know, the company we work (Deep Rock Galactic) for assumes that it is a rival company, sending in robots to harvest data on an alien planet. If that information got out, Deep Rock Galactic would be in trouble, quoted from the dwarves "Swarming with other mining corporations in no time!" due to how rich Hoxxes IV is. There is a lot more to the story, like how remember the hub you guys had a lot of fun with, that is called "The Space Rig" there are 86 (was 87 before space rig 5 incident) of these fucking things, with 16 more being under construction. Gameplay: Incredibly satisfying to shoot down hoards of bugs, even better when you upgrade your character, and stupidly fun when you actually get good at the video game. If you ever return to this game, i suggest you try Scout, hes super fast with his grappling hook, (if you upgrade the grappling hook, you can get it to have a 2 second cooldown, which is op af) you can light up the entire cave with a flare gun to see wtf you're looking at, and his guns are also pretty neat. If the game was getting boring for you, jack up the difficulty, go to a deadlier location that has environmental hazards, different bugs, and collect different resources. If its still boring, try a new class, try new weapons, try new perks, try everything dammit! Enemies: "None of these enemies are very imaginative" ... There are a total of 76 unique enemies, bugs, and bosses... enough said. There is really only one thing that i would say is "wrong" about this review, and thats, if you hate the game, rate it a 1, or a 2, or something, 5 doesnt make any sense, first of all if you didnt buy the disc thingy, you would not have "marketing materials" be on there, and second, season decor is seasonal, its no there all the time. I've noticed the more games a person has on their shelves, the more likely that they don't like good games. DRG is the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game, maybe you should try playing a haz5 mission with some randoms instead of your lame friends.
Games journalists in a nutshell, play a tiny fraction of the game on probably the lowest or second lowest haz (because of the low enemy variety) and not using all of the different classes or weapons and not even getting past conquer hoxxes IV (the starting assignment) also talking about plot in a game that doesnt focus on it
He was right about his tastes being niche and most people liking the game. That said if he played on higher difficulty, tried different classes, or played with more people (ideally those with some experience) he’s likely to enjoy it a lot more. It’s fine to not like the game, but this review definitely didn’t do the game justice.
I see you played on a low hazzard level, game becomes less fun on it because there's no much bugs in game where killing bugs is the main joy. Also you have to try different classes I especially recommend Driller, his weapons is the funniest for me. Game becomes much better when you unlock the overcklocs that can seriously change your weapon, and gives you a way to countless builds of killing bugs. Also you reported about zero plot and I have to say that there's the type of games where you really don't need it. Actually there is plot but not the one you're used to like in big AAA games. You are a Dwarf that works on DRG which is military-mining company and trying to monopolize Hoxes-4. They don't care about your safety but give you a lot of money. That's it, go on a deadly mission kill bugs and try not to die. There's no need to more.
I’m a big dork that’s a big fan of space dwarves, how DARE you have an opinion of this game that differs from my own! If you had only spent HUNDREDS OF HOURS playing this game in your mother’s basement like I have, you would truly see what a life-enriching experience this game has to offer! If I had a girlfriend, I would tell her to click the DISLIKE button on this video because I am that petty! Lucky for you I am a sad, lonely individual who only finds joy by being extremely critical of things that don’t already mirror my own narrow perspectives… 😔
This is my most popular opinion since I said Sega Rally Championship sucks! Lol this has a pretty welcoming community, you're just a leaf lover greenbeard Frank!!
I play mostly with randos in match making and that is my favorite way to play it. You get more variety and get to enjoy all the different classes. The community is a huge draw for the game. The game helps you make stories happen. The enemy variety gets better with diving into the other seasons and harder difficulties. The tools of the dwarves complement each other. You need a full team of different classes to get the most out of it. Personality comes out in the gameplay when you are playing with randos and using the ping tool and voice lines. Play more with randos and get more variety with the different classes, difficulties, and season-specific missions (you can select previous season's content at any time) Play is also better on PC where there is also a vibrant modding community.
im only 120 hours in but listen > need a story The terminal gives sequence of missions, theres voicelines mentioning someone named "Karl", salvage missions mention that "your colleagues lost their lives here". there isn't any story per se, but there's lore. > reason to play "NO DWARF LEFT BEHIND" what else do you need. You are dwarves hired by deep rock galactic to do risky missions. No motivation? Go to the memorial hall, stay silent, walk around and read the posters. see the statues and enjoy the grandiose music. every time you promote your dwarf, mission control and the company salutes you and congratulates you. thats a reason to keep going isnt it. > you make your own path digging through walls most part no. every cave has atleast 1 soil corner that leads to another cave. 90% of the time you dont need to dig through walls to go from one place to another, its just some soft soil that you can easily find out. > expecting sweet shootouts and some fight play on haz 4 with good players. you have no idea how intense it gets. people will literally lose the mission just to save you and bring you to the drop pod because "no dwarf left behind". also you reallly REAALLLY missed out on the weapons. Forget all classes. Just driller himself has 6 weird af and really fun weapons. 20 hours is enough to promote atleast 1 character and unlock all his weapon but i never saw that in the vid. > i dont have a ton of patience when it comes to those mechanics thats an entirely YOU problem. it doesnt deserve to be in a game review. > only mentions 3 types of mission point extraction, escort, elimination, salvage, data mining are all super different and have different levels of fun > every 2 minutes a new wave would come yeah what else were you expecting to use the guns for? > gatling gun unfun blowing away lame insects because low hazard level lol > pretty weak bossfights, didnt add anything to the mission youre showing footage of a corestone (not a boss). korlok the tyrant, dreadnoughts, nemesis, caretaker, prospector, bet-c (just from the top of my head) are actual bosses/mini bosses. theyre really fun to play against with friends > i didnt really enjoy my time nor did i because if i played the game like you id be bored too. youre choking yourself by not playing the game as intended and having a false expectation of something else. you should really take all the opposing comments into consideration and play the game as it was intended and then ammend the review. we aint lying when we say this game is fun. Rock and Stone you pointy-eared leaf-fondling son of a mud golem!
You both really just decided to stick to gunner and try nothing else? Try scout/driller/engi (engi is the bubble wrap class imo), go play casually (No roleplay) with randoms and rely on ingame coms (the ping system, ingame chat, rock and stones) Also up the difficulty a bit once your comfortable with the controls and think you understand the mechanics. Overall great devs, great community, and if your willing to put a little time in, very easy to unlock anything you want. There is even a way to save scum in this to get the exact overclocks for your guns that you want so you dont have to grind to get the one you want. Got the mini nuke overclock on engi my 1st try. Theres also the modding scene which works online. (eg: uncapped player limit for the game, can have 10+ people at a time)
man said "man, i don't really like the parts in this dwarf shooter game where you have to shoot stuff." Like bruh go play FarmVille, that might be a little bit more up to your tastes.
Nice review! Man I would rage quit with that kind of rotating map lol! Did you ask Cherry before borrowing her toy for that skit? I hope you've cleaned it after LOL! Great video and keep up the good work!
You don't seem to get the core of the game, therefore you shouldn't get to recommend or not recommend this game to others. I almost think this is satirical, because of how much you seem oblivious to what kind of game this is and of how confidently you announce this game is bad. Never cook again, you burned down the house.
0:42 lol. Nice edit. I have been interested in Deep Rock Galactic... but it's another one I've just never gotten around to. That does suck there is no story, but cool they included some physical goodies. You're right, that is rare these days. 3:50 rofl! Val is such a good sport 😀 4:59 I do love good story... but I do like just having fun with friends too. I guess it's about expectations. 5:59 ugh... I don't like grinding. And a bad tutorial is a red flag, for sure. 6:46 Hmm... not sure how I'd feel about this. I didn't like Terraria at first, but after time playing it with my son, I grew to enjoy the process of exploring, so I could see it growing on me. 7:57 lol, I do appreciate some meta-awareness in a low-brow joke 😀 8:38 hmm... that's too bad. I do like special bosses that add to the mission. 9:14 can't quit, won't quit! lol 9:43 this is a cool inclusion in the game 10:29 I repeat, Val is a good sport, haha 11:24 omg, you are a brave man to temp the algorithm with that XD 12:23 Tiger's gonna get flamed online now! haha, I haven't played it, so I have no clue which of you is being more fair. I tend to rate things too highly, because I'm looking for the best in games and thinking about what the devs tried to do, despite management likely derailing them at every turn XD
let me explain just how dogshit this video is for you,a game like this pretty much does not need a story, but it does have "quests",the multiplayer is hella good, pretty much with everyones character complementing each other, the game does not have that much grinding outside of the overclocks, the tutorial explains the base mechanics well, but your abilities and knowlege will grow overtime by playing, and the "special bosses" are random spawns that double the xp you gain for the pass(the pass unlocks cosmetics and materials),overall this dudes review is horrid and does not even scratch the surface of the game, lowkey i really recomend the game as imo its a 9 or a 10/10 game
@@durt214 who do you play it with? Do you need like a clan of friends, or is random matching fun too? I just don't tend to invest in multiplayer games unless I have a friend group that is excited about the game.
@@lorenzopinezi what is the draw to play though, without a story line? Is it camaraderie, or just the leveling-up grind? What keeps you coming back to it? I always try to vet out multiplayer games before I invest in them, so I want to understand what it is that makes this game one you rate so highly?
@@CynicPlacebo You need 0 friends but friends makes it 100x better like it always does. Randos are still perfect. You need to play the game to understand how fantastically it's made for cooperation even with randoms. It's made as good as the likes of Team Fortress 2. Also there is no grinding. There's constantly a goal that you want. And the gameplay is sure long to get something, but it's a fun adventure every time. I can't express how much I like just trying to complete a dive to it's fullest. Do the bonus objective, find any possible bonus events, find additional loot. It gets better once you start unlocking weapons and eventually get your first promotion and get into the overclocks which look pretty game changing. The more you progress the more epic the level of gameplay you get. Bigger missions, bigger toys, bigger moments. Also everything is free in the game. DLCs are only some cosmetic sets.
Fr. I'm new, 45 hours, currently promoting Engineer. Yeah... still no overclock, I definitely can't form an in depth opinion about the game except for what I've experienced so far. All I can say it's looking good so far and plenty of content because I haven't found myself playing for "fun" yet, there's always something I wanna explore. Hazard level, upgrades and especially the season passes free and non-limited? Peak. That's instant maybe hundreds of hours of grinding for cool unlocks.
Man, if you're not a fan of arguably the best parts of the game Then you shouldn't have played And shouldn't have made this review The story behind the darves and why they work is money (that's it) It's not supposed to be some sort of thought-provoking digital novel walking simulator
whatever if you don't like the game but the points you're making are just stupid like how are you going to sit here and say it's repetitive, any horde shooter is repetitive it just clearly isn't your genre so I don't even understand why you're making a video on saying its garbage if u alr don't like the genre 😭 its just a dumb review
I see a (a very rare) deeprock "is bad" review, I downvote Simple Jk. Or am I? Doesn't matter, your opinion, your channel, your video I would still recommend playing some more classes, different weapons, different weapon mods, get some juicy overclocks. That REALLY opens up the gameplay. Also, anything below haz 3 is boring even for greenbeards. Having friends that don't like the game or suck at DRG is prbly worse than just playing public. Been playing public almost exclusively for 500+hrs. Sometimes a few friends join, but thats it. Community is great
Oh shut it, leaf lover. ROCK AND STONE. Ok why he pickaxing the bugs when he has full ammo. This guy definitely plays movie games. Y'know "Press X to Win!". Time to learn to maybe play challenging games with actual tasks instead of cutscenes. Play Ultrakill, that's a story game!

Yeah, of course wasn't this leaf lover able to find the "fun" in DRG. I mean, if his jokes are his definition of fun, then this Game isn't for him. Rock and Stone
The game seems like an interesting premise, and seems there is more underneath the surface (pun intended lol). That being said though, it still doesn’t look like a game I’d actually enjoy. Good review TC and Val! Also, the skits…🤣
my man,do not trust this review, the guy didnt even play 5 hours of the game, everything he said is pretty much wrong or is just hella superficial,i would very highly recommend you the game incase you enjoy horde shooters, also the game is way more fun on multiplayer
L is for leaf lover. this video is an L. someone should show this vid to frit or somebody else who makes fun of shitty "reviews" so more people can get a chuckle out of this leaf lover's foolishness
Most of these points are subjective. That is not a great basis for reviews, especially if you go out of you way to trample the name of a very beloved and very well-renowned game for your own reasons that stem from how you play games. Look man, I'm sincerely sorry about this, but you're just plain wrong. Also, you barely played it !! I can definitely tell you did NOT play 20 hours of this game, since most of the footage tells me you didn't go farther than maybe a couple hours. Also the terminal has a basis of a story, but then again if you don't get the premise of the game you can't appreciate the limited amount of story. It's a personality and preference thing man, you're just not a match, from what it seems.
Bro called them subjective and proceeded to call them plain wrong like they were the voice of reason lol. Look I love this game but I think everyone deserves to have their own opinion haha

If you actually play the game and learn what the game about then you would actually understand, it's not about the journey but the allies you make on the way, at first I didn't understand why people love the game until I spend 24 hours in it. This game is more fun than your entire life spending on reviewing games that are more dog crap stories, you probably say that borderlands Pre-Sequel is more fun than Deep Rock, if so than you should probably get your brain check for signs of dumbness worming around your brain.
it's a great game, he barely scraped the surface in his review. he only played one class, only played the starter missions, and only played on baby difficulty. and he is wrong about many things, such as there being no story or the boss fight (which isn't even an official boss fight, more a seasonal event) you should try it out for rock and stone⛏️
@M4sterY0d4 I'm sure the game is fine I'm going more off of what I've seen in general for this one and I prefer stuff like the forest and it's sequel or 7 days to die to play with friends

I've noticed the more games a person has on their shelves, the more likely that they don't like good games. DRG is the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game, maybe you should try playing a haz5 mission with some randoms instead of your lame friends.
Lol I do have lame friends!
Games journalists in a nutshell, play a tiny fraction of the game on probably the lowest or second lowest haz (because of the low enemy variety) and not using all of the different classes or weapons and not even getting past conquer hoxxes IV (the starting assignment) also talking about plot in a game that doesnt focus on it
you so damn right about this ngl
Haha hey now I don't claim to be a games journalist. I just didn't care for this game. But I'm glad you like it.
He was right about his tastes being niche and most people liking the game. That said if he played on higher difficulty, tried different classes, or played with more people (ideally those with some experience) he’s likely to enjoy it a lot more. It’s fine to not like the game, but this review definitely didn’t do the game justice.
Appreciate the kind comment and feedback! I'd be open to playing it more, I just didn't enjoy what I had played through. Glad you enjoy this game!
Looks like you don't know how a good game looks like
Haha this game just wasn't for me. I have plenty of other reviews where I give good scores. Thanks for watching!
This guy should work for IGN.
Out of all the comments I've received over the years, THIS is the one that I am most offended by! Lol IGN is trash
Appreciate all the encouragement! Thanks for watching.
when i saw the review i thought it was a fuging joke at first
I mean i do have jokes in the review!
Ahhh, yes. THE IRONY.
Yeah get all these greenbeards outta here!
Somebody has a future competing with Internet Comment Etiquette with Eric XD
This is my most popular opinion since I said Sega Rally Championship sucks! Lol this has a pretty welcoming community, you're just a leaf lover greenbeard Frank!!
This guy should review for IGN.
wrongo wrongo wrongo lol
Haha that's fair! Everyone is entitled to an opinion!
Enjoyed reading your comment! Thanks for all the encouragement.
Definitely disagree here, but I'm interested what you have to say.
Glad you really enjoyed the game! I just didn't as a personal opinion.
Leaf lover
L opinions
I do enjoy a good salad
im only 120 hours in but listen
> need a story
The terminal gives sequence of missions, theres voicelines mentioning someone named "Karl", salvage missions mention that "your colleagues lost their lives here". there isn't any story per se, but there's lore.
> reason to play
"NO DWARF LEFT BEHIND" what else do you need. You are dwarves hired by deep rock galactic to do risky missions. No motivation? Go to the memorial hall, stay silent, walk around and read the posters. see the statues and enjoy the grandiose music. every time you promote your dwarf, mission control and the company salutes you and congratulates you. thats a reason to keep going isnt it.
> you make your own path digging through walls
most part no. every cave has atleast 1 soil corner that leads to another cave. 90% of the time you dont need to dig through walls to go from one place to another, its just some soft soil that you can easily find out.
> expecting sweet shootouts and some fight
play on haz 4 with good players. you have no idea how intense it gets. people will literally lose the mission just to save you and bring you to the drop pod because "no dwarf left behind". also you reallly REAALLLY missed out on the weapons. Forget all classes. Just driller himself has 6 weird af and really fun weapons. 20 hours is enough to promote atleast 1 character and unlock all his weapon but i never saw that in the vid.
> i dont have a ton of patience when it comes to those mechanics
thats an entirely YOU problem. it doesnt deserve to be in a game review.
> only mentions 3 types of mission
point extraction, escort, elimination, salvage, data mining are all super different and have different levels of fun
> every 2 minutes a new wave would come
yeah what else were you expecting to use the guns for?
> gatling gun unfun blowing away lame insects
because low hazard level lol
> pretty weak bossfights, didnt add anything to the mission
youre showing footage of a corestone (not a boss). korlok the tyrant, dreadnoughts, nemesis, caretaker, prospector, bet-c (just from the top of my head) are actual bosses/mini bosses. theyre really fun to play against with friends
> i didnt really enjoy my time
nor did i because if i played the game like you id be bored too. youre choking yourself by not playing the game as intended and having a false expectation of something else. you should really take all the opposing comments into consideration and play the game as it was intended and then ammend the review. we aint lying when we say this game is fun.
Rock and Stone you pointy-eared leaf-fondling son of a mud golem!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames aye matey. hopefully youll join us dwarves one day ;) FOR KARL!

I did not come home haha
Wow never knew opinions could be THAT WRONG. Certified leaf lover behaviour
Haha I've got plenty of other reviews that you'll probably not enjoy.
@@TigerChainsawVideoGameswhy even bother?
You both really just decided to stick to gunner and try nothing else? Try scout/driller/engi (engi is the bubble wrap class imo), go play casually (No roleplay) with randoms and rely on ingame coms (the ping system, ingame chat, rock and stones)
Also up the difficulty a bit once your comfortable with the controls and think you understand the mechanics.
(eg: uncapped player limit for the game, can have 10+ people at a time)
Awesome comment! Appreciate all the encouragement. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime. Thanks for watching.
man said "man, i don't really like the parts in this dwarf shooter game where you have to shoot stuff." Like bruh go play FarmVille, that might be a little bit more up to your tastes.
Haha I review a ton of different games, this one just didn't do it for me!
But i have house insurance!
0:42 lol. Nice edit.
I have been interested in Deep Rock Galactic... but it's another one I've just never gotten around to.
That does suck there is no story, but cool they included some physical goodies. You're right, that is rare these days.
3:50 rofl! Val is such a good sport 😀
4:59 I do love good story... but I do like just having fun with friends too.
7:57 lol, I do appreciate some meta-awareness in a low-brow joke 😀
8:38 hmm... that's too bad. I do like special bosses that add to the mission.
9:14 can't quit, won't quit! lol
9:43 this is a cool inclusion in the game
10:29 I repeat, Val is a good sport, haha
11:24 omg, you are a brave man to temp the algorithm with that XD
12:23 Tiger's gonna get flamed online now! haha, I haven't played it, so I have no clue which of you is being more fair. I tend to rate things too highly, because I'm looking for the best in games and thinking about what the devs tried to do, despite management likely derailing them at every turn XD
Try the game, it's 9,89€ now. I would say that it's well worth with my 1120 hours in the game.
let me explain just how dogshit this video is for you,a game like this pretty much does not need a story, but it does have "quests",the multiplayer is hella good, pretty much with everyones character complementing each other, the game does not have that much grinding outside of the overclocks, the tutorial explains the base mechanics well, but your abilities and knowlege will grow overtime by playing, and the "special bosses" are random spawns that double the xp you gain for the pass(the pass unlocks cosmetics and materials),overall this dudes review is horrid and does not even scratch the surface of the game, lowkey i really recomend the game as imo its a 9 or a 10/10 game
Everything looks and sounds like a massive skill issue.
And by the looks of it, you're playing on Haz 2. Which is impossible to die on
We did die on a mission or two. We also didn't record every time we played, but I'm glad you enjoyed this game. Thanks for watching!
Welp, guess I'm a fucking nerd then
That's okay, I'm a big nerd with other games
Certified greenbeard moment
And I'm a leaf lover!
Only 20 hours gameplay to make a review is ludicrious
def not even 5,he only went up to the third mission, you can reach it in literal 50 minutes
My guy we didn't record every single time we played lol I put way more than 5 hours in
Appreciate you watching!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames did you at least get a promotion?
This is a very unique take! no one has ever been this wrong about deep rock before. good video

Yeah, screw those guys!
Man, if you're not a fan of arguably the best parts of the game
Then you shouldn't have played
And shouldn't have made this review
The story behind the darves and why they work is money (that's it)
It's not supposed to be some sort of thought-provoking digital novel walking simulator
whatever if you don't like the game but the points you're making are just stupid like how are you going to sit here and say it's repetitive, any horde shooter is repetitive it just clearly isn't your genre so I don't even understand why you're making a video on saying its garbage if u alr don't like the genre 😭 its just a dumb review
Play level 5 and come back to us
I see a (a very rare) deeprock "is bad" review, I downvote
Simple
Jk. Or am I?
Doesn't matter, your opinion, your channel, your video
I would still recommend playing some more classes, different weapons, different weapon mods, get some juicy overclocks.
Community is great
For Karl
Appreciate the encouragement! Glad you enjoy this game.
Why does it not having a story matter? Its a GAME not a book or movie. Does fucking PONG have a story? Gonna say pong aint a great game?
_PONG_ is the story of two divorced parents fighting over custody of the kid that they had together. Do your research.
I would rather play Pong than this, but thanks for watching!

The game seems like an interesting premise, and seems there is more underneath the surface (pun intended lol). That being said though, it still doesn’t look like a game I’d actually enjoy. Good review TC and Val! Also, the skits…🤣

Yeah all the leaf lovers and greenbeards are wrong!

If you actually play the game and learn what the game about then you would actually understand, it's not about the journey but the allies you make on the way, at first I didn't understand why people love the game until I spend 24 hours in it. This game is more fun than your entire life spending on reviewing games that are more dog crap stories, you probably say that borderlands Pre-Sequel is more fun than Deep Rock, if so than you should probably get your brain check for signs of dumbness worming around your brain.

it's a great game, he barely scraped the surface in his review. he only played one class, only played the starter missions, and only played on baby difficulty. and he is wrong about many things, such as there being no story or the boss fight (which isn't even an official boss fight, more a seasonal event)
you should try it out
for rock and stone⛏️
