@Chaotic Potato I have to argue yes it has quite a bit in common with LifeAfter. Lol it takes up a good amount of space sure LifeAfter is a survival type game but they both require huge amounts of grinding. Except you can’t really climb in LifeAfter.
Fascinating and such a useful and practical way to study instead of getting bogged down on trying to merely replicate body parts without understanding the weight of them. I really like how in-depth your tutorial and explanation was
When I first saw the community post I was like, lumine??? Josh really knows how to bait us ha, can’t wait to burn through the last of my brain cells with this exercise
An honorable mention is the horizon line, which is basically when the curved lines go from facing upwards to facing downwards, and , of course the horizon line is in the horizon (This is the best way I can put it, I’m terrible até explaining things)
I went ahead and tried attempting this myself as just about 30 minutes ago I’m honestly glad I have a grasp on shapes and shapes in perspective because this would be a train wreck if I didn’t it’s really useful and I can see how this would most definitely help with my figure construction so thank you definitely will continue using this
This is invaluable--thank you so much! From the directional lines to the 'freebie' lines to the drawing through the headband--everything! This single video has helped answer a LOT of questions I've had drawing recently. And foreshortening is something that my noisy, logical mind has never let me achieve with much realism. Subscribed! Again, thanks. 💖
Why is Genshin everywhere, even when I deliberately go out of my way to do/think about something else, Genshin pops up anyway lol. Not like I'm complaining
im doing this so long by myself but with random shapes from my imigination and somtimes on any real shapes too like figures, and its really fun and meditation proces for me. guys u should try too. great video josh!
This was really helpful to understanding anatomy and shading better! Thank you so much for this video! I can’t wait to try this exercise with some photos by myself 😃
I love this tutorial and explanation Josh. I have been missing so much of what you have been doing this year but still wishing you every good thing ✨✨✨
When you read topographic maps and sorta understood the stripe drawing but it's like proper grammar and then text talk or looking at the source page of a website and having to decipher it
An very Informative and nice video. I have heared but never really used cross contour lines before. I'm having some trouble with correct shading and drawing clothes, especially from different angles. i'll try to add cross contour lines to my drawings and see how it turns out.
Well well one day I will get to study art and this was kinda useful since I did something like that already (well on my Owen trying to draw a body I tried doing it like that) But that is helpful to actually find out that you can study it I never really study it but It was just natural and one of the first thing I tried to do to draw a body. Any way interesting I still need to find a good way to draw probably would need a fine tablet since I hate having to print picture to study it but any way we will see. Thx for sharing this it was useful and I won't lie it close to one of the thing I really like and it was modelling things for industrial design. actually probably should have went in modelling insteed of Graphism since Modeling seem to be quite interesting to me. I will try it out tho am sure I can find a good Gray scale picture somewhere. or a photo of someone.
Dear Josh. You had made this video a while back about a handful of Instagram artists to follow. I couldn't find that video. There was one artist who drew pin up style black women in space, particularly retro future illustrations. I hope you can point me to her account. Thanks again. I love your TH-cam channel. Mark
…for that disturbing James Bond reference. You can just think of it as a MedBay scanner in Among Us. no need for the disturbing imagery XDDDD Im jk, love the video LOL
Ok this was quite useful tho I would need a more define version of this for how to do things like the Sholders, Booba, Ass, and Muscle whene the axes see a bit of... Exemple the Torso Axes is easy to get but like booba kinda got there own axes too but it like 2 axes and I get confuse by that if that make sense It mainly come down to the torso area really (like I said booba, shoulders, or abs all can make me not sure what am suppose to do with it.) Still it was super useful I actually got 2 drawing without ref and they actually kinda look good for once. (ok not great but still kinda not bad onlike usually) But yah if you could take time to should like this for the advance parth (where there multiple axes fighting each other or like for hair you do it for hair and am like... how?) SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH And THX ALOT FOR THE HELP It was really useful to help with spacial 2D training. (Am just still confuse by the advance stuff)
I'm not sure if you answer your comments but I guess anyone can answer, Should I do this exercise ON a picture or should I imagine the circles in a picture and try drawing it as practice? Not sure if I explained myself.
Hello. I would like to ask for your advice. Should I get the iPad Pro 12.9" 2021 at 512GB or 1TB? Its my first iPad and I will use it as my main computer. My intent is to start illustrating and there is no difference in the number of drawing layers (Procreate) between the 8G and 16G RAM. Thank you.
why did the topic change to how to draw on 3d to being a top or a bottom, hmmmm (jk this is really helpeing me to understand mor anatomy and 3d space, thanks ergo)
So I can actually take advantage of my addiction with to studying the shadowing and form of anatomy. Sounds like a great idea, thank you.Great vid👏👏✌️👍😁😁😁😁 first vid I have watched on your channel so far,I will be looking forward for more.
Bro first thing you had to mention is that those lines are related to the perspective . If you don't know how to find the perspective line you will get confused 😕
Maybe lower your graphics settings? I think an iPhone 12 should be able to handle genshin just fine. I have a lower quality phone (Motorola one macro) and genshin doesn't make my phone heat at all unless the weather is very hot
@@grapeyard1778 the game isn’t the problem honestly. It runs smooth at high graphics settings. The phone itself is the problem. Something internally is wrong because my phone gets too hot to hold (no exaggeration I literally have to set it down because of the heat) when using 5G or fast charging (which you can’t turn off other than by buying a non fast charger). So the phone is broken internally no doubt in my mind but knowing Apple it’s gonna be a bitch to replace.
So I can actually take advantage of my addiction with Genshin to study the shadowing and anatomy. Sounds like a plan, thx! :D

Why do you guys like Genshin so much? I’ve thought about downloading but ran out of space and thought it’s just another LifeAfter
@Chaotic Potato I have to argue yes it has quite a bit in common with LifeAfter. Lol it takes up a good amount of space sure LifeAfter is a survival type game but they both require huge amounts of grinding. Except you can’t really climb in LifeAfter.
AOAOS THE WAY I GOT SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW MY FAV ARTIST USING GENSHIN AS REF AAAA
same lmao
Same lol
YESS IKR SUANEBAKANWJ 😭✋
I SAW LUMINE AND I CLICKED AS FAST AS I COULD
I know most people probably can't read a topographical map but that's basically what you're doing. You're creating the topography of the body.
Level curves are not normal to the surface but arbitrarily horizontal.
or more specifically, he's drawing evenly separated horizontal planes assuming the figure drawn is in an anatomical position
Im not even interested in 3D art but josh+genshin is a pleasantly surprisibg collab i had to roll up to
Army and Genshin fan? 💞💞💞💞 I haven’t seen one of y’all in a while
Pretty sure you can apply this to "2D" art as well, unless you're doing something like peppa pig

@@user-lc3on9fd9m lol
I think it’s for drawing not 3d art, but yes, this video is 🤌✨
It’s actually kinda relaxing to do it feels like trying to solve a puzzle ill try as i go to make the poses more and more complicated
I am a simple person. I see anything that relates to genshin, I click.
lol
me too 😍🤞
I couldn't say it better
Agreed.
we are all the same

Cross contouring is FANTASTIC for drawing muscle shapes when doing anatomy studies.

not sure if this is helpful but this seems similar to how you approach things if youre drawing stripes on a horizontally striped shirt.
What iPad screen protector r u using?
But it takes more time than tracing. What's the benefit? But your teaching is easy to follow.
