F-16 and A-10C are the go to's, IMO. The F-16 can do a bit of everything, minus carrier landings, and the A-10 is just fun. Nothing beats going in on multiple gun runs in that thing. Neither are too hard to get to grips with, either

I think if you already have a high fidelity jet, then it is definitely worth it. If you're starting from the FC3 or the good ol' Su-25T I'd probably suggest the F/A-18C as the better first high fidelity jet as it can do almost anything, has more weapons than the F-16 and is Carrier capable. F-16 of course being somewhat more capable in A2A.

I still think the F16 is a better aircraft for beginners, as it does a great job at teaching you how to use your energy, in dogfights, and BVR. I also believe the F/A-18 Can we really overwhelming at times, where as the F16 is much, much simpler. I generally found the F16 easier to learn, as its radar, pages, tpod, ect, are easier to use properly.
