Absolutely love your video's! I have a beautiful custom build cb550 myself, but had it done from scratch by a professional as I'm not technical at all my self.. Now I'm thinking about getting another bike but doing all the work all alone.. I think it will give such satisfaction knowing you've done everything yourself.. Working/struggeling in the garage also puts me in my own "Zen" mood.. Your video's really help as I have a visual example of how to approach things.. Thanks!
With your brake light being too bright, you may have the wiring around the wrong way, so when you hit the brake it only gets a little brighter. This would be because the additional light when the brake is activated is just the running light coming on.
+Classic Octane only reason I mentioned it was because I had the same issue the other day on a build. Brocken earth wire was causing issues and I used the same light as you as a replacement. I've enjoyed your videos, keep it up.
Cool build. I'd be worried about the position of the brake light - looks like it could get smacked by the rear tire on an extreme bump situation. But if no, that's cool. Exciting first start :)
I looked into that before I mounted it there. There is 4 inches or so of clearance. I have gone over some railroad tracks at over 50MPH without any issues. It I were 200lbs+ it might be a problem.
Thanks for a great series of videos I enjoyed every one. You did a great job on the filming and of course the great bike, it was like a carbon copy of my build last year, practically the same but totally different if you know what i mean lol....Subscribed keep up the good work sir. From the UK.
It's funny when you find answers that you weren't looking for. I thought I had a problem with my ignition timing a few weeks ago but I had trouble finding anything helpful. Turns out that it wasn't the issue for me, but I didn't expect to learn how to set it in this build video. You really show off some valuable things man, awesome work. Also I'm not sure if you've done it already, but in your next update do ya think you could briefly go over how you sync your carbs?
Thanks for the support and i'm glad I could help. I will definitely include a walk through on syncing carbs on my next update. I may even make a separate video just for that so I can try and help anyone searching for it.
Hey, I just picked up a CB550 the other day to start a cafe project. I'm wondering if you cut the forks down at all on this build or not? Everythings stock as of right now but I feel like it looks so high in the front. I'm planning on doing clip ons for bars, probably the same ones you did, but I'm wondering if thats all i need to achieve a lower profile for the bike? Let me know thanks
Hey dude i love your videos! i got myself a cb 500 four because of your videos! could you tell me what exhaust you have on this bike? and would you go with 110 main jets on a 500 four with potts aswell? much love keep it up with the great work!
Did you have any issues with the bike killing the battery? Mine runs but if I'm cruising the streets, battery dies. Cruising the freeway, battery stays charged. Higher RPMs I'm guessing. I changed my wiring hareness and replaced all the lights with LED.
Great great series! Feeling very inspired - though wishing I had a bigger garage! With the brake light - could it be wired in reverse? So the brake light is on permanently and when braking the auxiliary light comes on - rather than the other way round?
i got a 1980 gn400 and stock carb is in-tuneable. If i bought a new one same bore size and CV still would it matter? or are there specs i have to look into? love the series btw its helped me a lot in my first rebuild
That's standard on the CB550. It's really nice to have the electric start but have the kick start as a backup or for when you want to look like a badass haha.
Classic Octane Wow. Looks like a CB550 is the next bike for me. I have an electric start bike but had a lot of issues with the sprag clutch. I fixed it myself... but a kick starter would have made my life a lot easier! But both! thats even better.
When you first tried to start the bike with starter fluid, was their any gas in the carbs? Or did is start on spray alone? I got a CB550 I'm working on now.
My part 6 video walks though how I built mine. The battery is just a low cost option off Amazon. They have a million to look through depending on what size and power you need. The main thing to consider is if you're kick starting your bike or not. You will need more power for an electric start.
I ordered it on Ebay(Link Below). It's great quality . Just make sure to get the right ratio for your bike. Most older Hondas are 2240:60. www.ebay.com/itm/321787063278?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
www.ebay.com/itm/321787063278?orderid=&rmvSB=true This is the one I used. It's just a speedo no tach. You can get a small tach to match it you want both. My current CB550 project is going to have both.
Super build, sweet sound of victory at the end.

Awesome, I'm glad you like them. That's exactly the reason why I do it. It's the perfect stress relief.
Enjoying the build and info. Thank you. Currently working on. CB350. My next May have to be bigger bro 550.
I love the CB550's. I have had a CB750 and it was a little too heavy for my tastes. The 550's fit me perfectly. Thanks for watching.
Longer videos is my vote. When it's over i have to find something else to watch....Set the point gaps before timing.
With your brake light being too bright, you may have the wiring around the wrong way, so when you hit the brake it only gets a little brighter. This would be because the additional light when the brake is activated is just the running light coming on.
I double checked that the other day. The incandescent bulb already burnt out. I ordered an LED replacement and I will let you know how that looks.
+Classic Octane only reason I mentioned it was because I had the same issue the other day on a build. Brocken earth wire was causing issues and I used the same light as you as a replacement. I've enjoyed your videos, keep it up.

This video just makes me super happy :)) keep the cafe videos going!!

Awesome, i'm glad you enjoyed them. I should have another update here in the next day or two. Thanks for watching.
Juste starting my build this week (1976 )

I tried that and it's exactly the same. I think it's just the cheap light. I replaced the bulb with an LED one and it's better.

Where in TX are you? I'm in Austin and recently bought a 74 550 and have been following your channel for ideas and how to, keep up the awesome vids!
I'm just north of Austin in Cedar Park. Let me know if you have any questions. Maybe we can go ride when you're done with your project.
Thanks, I'll definitely take you up on that. I'm out in Bee Cave/Hill country. Great views, and lots of fun roads out here.
nice job
Great bike, did you powder coated the frame, after installing the frame hoop, or did you painted yourself?
I painted it.
Very very nice!
nice work
dude whered you get tht speedo? its perfect
I'd like to know this too. It looks really good!
Where did you get the controls? Thanks! Great videos!
How are the breaks? single disc and only 1 piston doesn't seem like enough
Fine for street riding. If I was going to race it or go for more performance I would upgrade to a twin disc setup.
I had a feeling you are from Austin based off the quick shot of the beer in a coozie on your table. Is that a Live Oak Hefeweizen?
You know it :-)
Hey what is the throttle you chose? I found a lot of them on amazon I just dont know what one would be right for a CB750.
Kick start and electric start :O That is seriously awesome... is that stock or did you add the electric starter?
That's standard on the CB550. It's really nice to have the electric start but have the kick start as a backup or for when you want to look like a badass haha.

Bazzington James my 78 suzuki gs400 had the same
Oracle Gaming Why now am I learning this. What a world we live in! such tech, no time.
When you first tried to start the bike with starter fluid, was their any gas in the carbs? Or did is start on spray alone? I got a CB550 I'm working on now.
Just starting fluid the first few times. Then I put the tank on and got it running on it's own fuel.
oh dat bike man!!sexy as hell!!
great work!
Hi, where did you buy that seat?
Nice bike BTW
Thanks! The seat is a "Flat Seat" from tuffside.com/
How did you go about making your battery tray and what battery did you use? I'm trying to ditch the factory batter set up on my cb360 lol
Thanks!
My part 6 video walks though how I built mine. The battery is just a low cost option off Amazon. They have a million to look through depending on what size and power you need. The main thing to consider is if you're kick starting your bike or not. You will need more power for an electric start.
What clutch lever/ perch did you use? And did you use the "clutch switch" or clutch safety switch with the new lever/perch?
It's just a universal one of of ebay I believe. I'm no longer using the clutch switch.
What air filters are those? I need some to replace the air box
half way video?
where did you get the throttle?? :)
Hey, I have some troubleshooting with the wiring of the speedo. Do you where I can found a tutorial for that kind of issue? Thks
What issues are you having? I can try and help.
Classic Octane i sent you a short video of my problem on google+. Thanks
Can you take cb 650 and make a 900 cc
where did you get that throttle sleeve without controls?
I got it off of Ebay. You can just search universal motorcycle throttle. They are pretty inexpensive too. Around $20 if I remember correctly.
Hey where did you get that awesome speedo?
I ordered it on Ebay(Link Below). It's great quality . Just make sure to get the right ratio for your bike. Most older Hondas are 2240:60.
www.ebay.com/itm/321787063278?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Sweet thanks. Great build btw keep up the good work and the updates. Love the look so far!
Can you let me know how much you sold the bike for?
I sold this one for $3,200.
do you have a link to the speed/tachometer
www.ebay.com/itm/321787063278?orderid=&rmvSB=true
This is the one I used. It's just a speedo no tach. You can get a small tach to match it you want both. My current CB550 project is going to have both.
The next thing he will be working on is... that dodge truck
Trade up for a chevy
How thick is that tuff side seat ?
It's about 2.5" thick. It's surprising comfortable. I haven't taken it on any long trips yet but so far i'm very happy with it.
What headlight is that?
That's the stock CB550 headlight.
dude how much would you sell that bike for???
This bike is long gone but my current one will be for sale soon. Email me if you're interested. classicoctane@gmail.com
i hope you washed your helmet, sharing a helmet is a no go for me.....
What do the #110 jets do differently than the jets it came with? What jets did it come with?
