Grim Fandango got a remaster a few years ago and it's incredible. MUCH better controls (full mouse control!) and high res graphics. It's the superior version, so it's highly recommended.
Woah it worked! Thank you for the steam code! Santa has truly arrived. That surprise has really warmed my heart. I loved the first Leisure Suit Larry as a kid, I played it on DOS and didn't understand any of the jokes until much later. I remember spending a lot of time fooling around in the casino.
I've never even played Grim Fandango but I think I've probably watched longplays of it more than any other game for some reason lol. Happy Holidays Newandoldvidogames! (NaOVG for short lol)
Happy holidays to you too! :) On the name note, I was toying with the idea of a name change for a channel, but I just can't land on anything I would like, and that would give away what I do AND plan to do here. :)
Seaman was truly bizarre, a relic from a time when Devs were not afraid to take gambles with the inherent risk of the gamble not paying off....I miss that era.
Merry Christmas! :) I'm releasing at least one more this year. Maybe two. And the next one will start with a mix. Some of these Forgotten Treasures that I do now, I also have to finish with Windows 2001, before I get into 2002. And I may make a few non-serialised singular videos too. These are also fun to work on.
I’m currently replaying Betrayal at Krondor. Back in the day, it got my brother and I into Feist’s works. With the alleged TV/Streaming series based upon his works on the way, i kinda hope we either get a remaster, remake, or new game in the world.
Oh, and if anybody wants to play BAK, you can max your haggling at the first shop you visit, by going in and haggling on every item until the merchant refuses to sell anything. Leave the shop, reenter, repeat, until maxed. Oh, when you are on the stat screen, if you click on the pommel of the swords that show skills, it “focuses” on that skill so it levels faster. So do that to speed up the haggle maxing. Only focus on certain skills at a time. Next, first Inn you get to, focus on everyone’s barding skill, and try and until you succeed. Do this at every inn. You can’t easily max it out, but you can get it high enough to make you succeed more often. You can apply the focus trick to any thing, especially things like the practice lute and reading books. The spider can be used to make all your arrows poisoned arrows. You can gather all loot you can’t carry in one spot, and mule it. Over multiple trips to sell it all. And sell items to appropriate shops to get better prices, like gems to gen merchants.
@@Kilthan2050Those are some good tips there, thanks for sharing them! :) Though I'm pretty sure I'm already a haggle master after dealing with Stan in the Monkey Island games XD

Food for thought: Disney owns Lucasfilm and Lucasarts. This means they own Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, et al. At some point, someone at Disney is going to remember they exist and we are going to witness movies or shows based upon them. And, eventually, we’ll get a Pirates of the Caribbean/Monkey Island crossover where Guy Threepwood meets Jack Sparrow.
I don’t know Betrayal at Krondor? Looks ambitious for 1993 but it sounds interesting? Seaman is very strange but the use of voice control was ahead of it’s time but it required such an investment of time to get it going & keep it going I can’t imagine who was putting the time in? It was fascinating but more fun to see someone else playing than put the time in yourself. Franko is fascinating with it’s hand drawn graphics. It shouldn’t be dismissed because it looks like a child’s drawing. Parasite Eve was huge in it’s day & for good reason. It’s combat system takes a bit of getting used to but it’s worth it. Grim Fandango still has a strong cult following because it’s something special. I have my original copy & the HD remake because I love it, “moon logic” and all. Funnily enough my ex plaid it first on the PS3. These are some true classics that deserve to be remembered & replayed, including one I don’t know. Great video, thanks.
The story in Betrayal at Krondor is great and the music... oh the music :-D. So much atmosphere in this game. Do yourself a favour if you like the genre and play it. Even the strategy of the fights is well thought out. If you *really* like it, look up "Call of Saregnar", a game in development that pays homage to this title and expands it even further. There is a free WIP demo you can download from their website.
I think that the idea behind Seaman was to give those who had no pets one, but one that would be unlike anything else that they could have in real life. And it was, and it took out its anger on you too. It was great! ;) Did you notice the difference between Amiga and PC graphics in Franko? And I still somehow prefer the looks of the Amiga version... PE did a lot of things the way no other games did. It even tried to teach you (well, us, gamers) a lesson. One in life no less. The GF footage in the video is actually from that recent re-master. It's just easier on the eyes, and the controls are a bit better.
It was a pleasure to hear your wabba-dubba-dub-dub, as always! :) It was a great video, worthy of a bacon like 🥓 Funny how I was just talking about fish with noses the other week. That fellow in Seaman is a creature I'd expect in a horror game. If you raise him, do you also educate him? And also, how is he as a he laying the eggs through his head and without a female partner to procreate with? Hmm... I suppose those would be interesting questions to ask him directly :D I actually wish I could forget Grim Fandango. Because it's a game that I watched a let's play of before playing it myself :)
Seaman is something else. That's why it got covered in a bit different way than the other games did, and I allowed him to say his peace more than once. xD
@OldAndNewVideoGames He sure has a lot to say. And with a personality, no less. I have chats with the Google Assistant, but he's not all that entertaining :D
Betrayal at Krondor was fun but the class system is far too limited for me to think of it as a must replay game. Parasite Eve was a lot of fun. I never understood why they thought they needed to radically change the gameplay for the sequels.
It was an interesting time in RPG design when PE released. Especially for Square that seemed to experiment with ever each game that they released and made them all a bit different. Perhaps they were looking for something new and better, and just never found it. xD
If I remember correctly, Grim Fandango was an attempt to halt the decline of the adventure genre that took place at the time. But it did not really succeed if I remember correctly. Seemed a good effort regardless.
@@OldAndNewVideoGames Yes, I do remember it quite well. Did not play it, but I was reading gaming magazines at the time, and there was quite a bit of buzz around it, and also dissapointment when it did not become a great success. At least the genre did not die in silence the way RTS did. It seemed like a genre that had quite a bit of support from the gaming press at the time, but it did not help it much in the end.
PCgamer gave this away for free one month with a bunch of other classic low popularity RPGs or just old classics like Wasteland. Krondor was the one I played a lot. like daggerfall except less open and procedural which made it a better overall experience.
Daggerfall was a perfect concept of a game, and technological achievement. But in the same time, the tech that was used there, was still no enough to telegraph what it was supposed to become. That came years later, but very few devs would attempt something as big these days. It's a lot of work, long time till you see the payout, and it's difficult to inject micro-transactions into it. xD
Yeah, I saw the new game. Not impressed, if I'm to be honest. I mean, I still have to try and wont judge it on the second-hand impressions only, but there's something about those janky pixels that just gets my heart going! xD
I liked how Parasite Eve tried to educate players by inserting pop-science tidbits in random places ;) The second installment was also a great game, though perhaps not as atmospheric. Sadly, the same can't be said of 3rd Birthday. I'm still hoping that Square will do something with the IP in the future. Preferably something *not* involving NFT's....
Absolutely. Gaming since around late 80's and Parasite Eve games are some of the _most_ memorable games, seriously. I kinda liked them more than RE's or FF's, though obviously they aren't exactly same genres. FMV's where particularly interesting in PE's.
@@OldAndNewVideoGames Unfortunately, while Square-Enix has some wonderfully talented devs, the higher-ups seem intent on jumping on every idiotic fad train that's currently trending in the industry.
