I get that the name mix up at Ross's wedding was a huge surprise, but given that we spent the entire episode waiting to see what Rachel would do, you almost expected the actual wedding would not go smoothly. Monica and Chandler, my God, no one saw that coming.

I fully agree with that, there was no way you could predict the two of them hooking up! The name mixup was more of an "oh snap did that actually happen?" whereas the hookup was truly a shocking moment.

Why are most of these Ross and Rachel? I think the bigger twist from Emily and Ross' wedding was actually Chandler and Monica sleeping together.

Agree to many that are based on Ross and Rachel or one of them. I would say in the final season finding out chandler and Monica were having twins was more a shock.

Chandler hooking up with Monica during Ross's wedding to Emily was one that was missed. Rachel/Joey thing was not the best storyline the writers had.

But it could’ve been a good story like Rachel and Joey could’ve been a good couple. Rachel could come like a modelling agent or something in the fashion world or Rachel was doing her fashion world thing and like they could’ve worked her and Ross were toxic for each other, but her and Joey they could’ve actually had something
I always thought that the best acting job Joey ever did was convincing Chandler that Monica had left.

You can't blame Emily for being humilated after Ross blurted out his ex's name in front of her loved ones, though asking him to stay away from Rachel was admittedly going too far.
see i'm on the other side of that one. had she just made the demand on finding out they were exes i'd have said yeah emily was wrong, but after he said the wrong name, na that's no good at all. plus she offered him a choice, he asked what he could do to make the marriage work (because she wanted a divorce/annulment) and she thought about it and gave him the answer. she wasn't just randomly throwing out ultimatums.
I love the way Joey's eyes seem to bulge over. Matt Leblanc is a genius at comedic timing!

Ross saying Rachel's name instead of Emily was shocking, but everyone's reaction was hilarious.
Definitely finding out Rachel was the one pregnant shocked me the most but also that wasn’t mentioned was seeing Phoebes father for first time was another big shocker too.

Did anyone else notice that they're almost all from finales? I guess that's not too surprising because, well, cliffhangers, but I would argue that, as lovely as Monica's proposal is, Ross not getting the annulment is more shocking. That being said, Monica and Chandler having twins was more surprising than one more added wrinkle to Ross and Rachel getting together.
This show is going to be 30 years old next year

It doesn't qualify as a suprise moment but my favorite will always be Rachel sobbing because she can't see her baby in the ultrasound. But chandler watching the birthing video is a close second!

I think that the most shocking thing that happened in Friends was that entire episode in season one when Monica dated a guy who she didn’t know was in high school. I know it was supposed to be for laughs, but for me it’s shocking because I don’t even become friends with someone before figuring out how far apart our age difference is or if there even is an age difference.
He let her believe he was a senior in COLLEGE. Still an age difference but not so great and not a felony
The One With The Prom Video is still one of my favorite episodes! That and the episode I can't remember the title of right now but it's when they do the game and the girls lose their apartment 😂
I actually think that Chandler revealing that he is going to propose to Monica while talking with Phoebe was a bigger surprise than Monica proposing to Chandler. Other than that, great video!

Mostly of them are about Ross and Rachel , I think 8 out of 10 shocked moments are from them or one of them

Actually, Chandler and Monica hooking up was way more shocking and fun than what had already become of the tired Ross/Rachel trope. The Ross/rachel plot line would have been better served to the audience as a slow burn rather than back-to back-to back-to back season cliffhangers.

Like the story line was their for all 10 seasons: with stories between their relationship in every season: of course it was mostly going to be about them, love the drunk one in vegas, I would have put the one in with Phoebe and the embryos and having the triplets or MY SANDWICH

Most of them are about Ross and Rachel and in the reunion also the most shocking moment was David and Jennifer's crush on each other , even though everyone knew ir clearly
I get that Ross and Rachel's lives were chaotic, but nothing was more shocking than finding out that Chandler and Monica were together, or that they were getting twins. Or Phoebe's mum was still alive.

This list is all about Ross and Rachel change it up a bit. There was the Monica and chandler hook up , Joey moving out, Janice and Ross, Mike showing up to marry phoebe. The list goes on THIS LIST IS THE RACHEL AND EOSS LIST

5- when everyone found out

9- when Rachel and Joey kiss
10- when Rachel gets off the plane
So pretty much almost every season premiere or finale.

Took me 5 minutes and 45 seconds to realize this wasn't a Ross and Rachel centered list.
This list was almost all entirely Ross.

As classic a moment as season 8’s red sweater moment was, I have to give it to the videotape where we realize that Rachel used Joey’s Europe story to come on to Ross. We figured that Ross may have been telling the truth about Rachel initiating it, but the way it happened was absolutely brilliant since we didn’t think that she would have known that story.

Friends is a sit-com. It has no plot. that is what makes it good and Seinfeld's raison d'etre is proving this point for the sit-com genre.

There were many shocking moments but nothing was more shocking than Ross’ wedding. Ross saying Rachel at the altar was a great plot twist and something no one saw coming. At first you’d expect Ross and and Emily get married and the series would focus on Rachel being jealous but where’s the fun in that? Absolutely great writing and acting by all involved!
