Hello? My name is James Gwak from Seoul, Korea. I am fascinated by Portugal and want to introduce Portugal to Koreans. Is it possible to show your video? For those who really want to live in Portugal, your video is great.
It will differ... ;) But not in a bad way. Lisbon is a city full of soul. I'm from Lisbon and lived there all my life, then went to live 8 years in Alcobaça and finally have been living in the UK for the last 3 (somewhat the opposite path from you). Lisbon for me is home but... I think you'll feel it as much home as I have.
@@joseph8947 I'll satisfy your curiosity. ;) Portugal is the perfect place with the imperfect salaries. The ratio between cost of living and income is a much smaller figure than in the UK. It's hard to enjoy life, if you're in constant survival mode. Some few people manage to make enough money to live well in Portugal. The kind of job I have for instance (freelance film Director/DoP) is a particular difficult profession to make ends meet in Portugal. Minimum wage is twice as much in the UK yet, prices in supermarkets are lower (comparing the same supermarket: Lidl). Rents are now cheaper in Edinburgh than in Lisbon. I cross the UK in highways paying only one toll of £5. How much do you pay in highways to get from Lisbon to Oporto or Faro? If I get an NHS prescription for a medication I pay ZERO in the UK. In Portugal I still pay a large percentage of the medication. It's cheaper to have internet or a mobile phone in the UK... Shal I start talking about energy costs?.. How about the price of second hand cars, which in some cases are almost a 10th of the cost. Trust me... I didn't take the decision of leaving lightly. I had to endure a lot, before I finally decided to leave. I keep dreaming of coming back and keep sending CVs to the few jobs that would allow me a good living in Portugal. But to no avail...
@@miguelmeloqueiroz3553 Portuguese here living in the UK for 11 years and the figures you stated are definitely not true for all the UK. The UK has a very small minimum wage compared to the cost of living, like many other countries, you will struggle on a minimum wage if you are living on your own. A minimum wage is £8/hour so you are lucky to have £1200 at the end of the month and after paying an average rent of €800/£1000 for a small 1 bedroom flat plus ridiculous rates of council tax you are left with barely anything. NHS prescriptions are currently about £8.79, you only don't pay if you are unemployed or receive some sort of benefits. Life is though in Portugal on a minimum wage, but let's not pretend that people will live very well in the UK on a minimum wage. Loads of people here live in shared accommodation to be able to survive, even grown married couples. Pulic transport is another huge cost, in particular trains, many people have to spend above £200 a month on trains (my annual train ticket costs £2,300). So in reality anyone coming to the UK to live on a minimum wage will not live much differently than someone living on a minimum wage in Portugal. If you are coming to the UK to earn above £30.000 a year than yes, you can have decent life. Edinburgh is definitely not representative of the prices in the rest of UK (university is free there in the rest of the UK it's £9000 a year), just like Lisbon is not representative of the prices of rest of Portugal.
@@joseph8947 , with those figures you won't have a problem. As I said in my previous comment, it's living in Portugal with Portuguese salaries (let alone pensions) that is the problem. Portugal's minimum wage is 600 Euros and you can imagine that hardly allows you to pay a rent for a studio flat in Lisbon (away from Lisbon on small towns or villages rents are almost or even half). With 2,721.00 Euros a month you'll be fine. :) And you're totally right: Compared to the US, Portugal is a paradise in terms of crime and health care. Depending on what kind of condo you're aiming at, 800 Euros a month might be or not be enough in Lisbon. Maybe on the outskirts of Lisbon but there, you won't really enjoy the spirit of Lisbon. If you want to be immersed in the city, I'd say 1000 Euros is probably a more comfortable figure but, with enough searching, you might get a nice 1 bedroom + 1 living room flat for 800 Euros.
Miguel Melo Queiroz @Miguel Melo Queiroz 🙌 I pray for the continued safety and prosperity of Portugal and her people, no matter your current GPS setting.🇧🇲🌺🇵🇹

@@csdragonfly a good part of the barbarism of the veggie movement (thanks for the correct spelling) is theirn pretense of being the dominant trend, the futur... there's a bigger problem though, that of being little ideologues, who feel morally superior to the rest of mankind ...
The apartment is very old. Newer apartments (or well renewed ones) in that area would have much better noise isolation.
You do get accustomed to the noise, I live by a late night bar and the happy sounds now help me fall asleep. 😀
😬
Not with children...
That Penthouse suite is very cheap for what you get
I could just imagine purchasing a accommodation like this and living there. I do prefer the country but forest fires scare me.
What a nice visit, hope you're home now and had a good night sleep.

Story is Counting so well!🤗
Story is counting in Portuguese. Love to hear her talk in Portuguese.
Thinking about moving to Portugal... but I really do concern about the AC situation over there now that u guys mentioned it.. . That's one of the things that I hate the most in Brazil as. matter. of fact... it's the lack of ac in places and the non existence of central air basically...
went to portugal for the first time in may and DA TERRA vegan buffet saved me!
Awwww...A pt speaking Story!!!!
Who would consider moving a child to live in city center?..
Story pronounces portuguese words perfectly
she knows hot to count to 10 in Portuguese, impressive!
It doesn t seem appropriate for children.
I have read a research done that in reality a fairer skin male like fairer skin female and visa versa but those who marry person other than their skin colour are actually lying to their own self
