The Volga is the longest river in Europe. It is situated in Russia, and flows through Central Russia to Southern Russia and into the Caspian Sea. The river flows in Russia through forests, forest-steppes and steppes. Four of the ten largest cities of Russia, including the nation's capital, Moscow, are located in the Volga's drainage basin.

На Волге расположены четыре города-миллионера (от истока к устью): Нижний Новгород, Казань, Самара и Волгоград. В 1930-х - 1980-х годах на Волге было построено восемь гидроэлектростанций, являющихся частью Волжско-Камского каскада.
Прилегающая к Волге часть территории России называется Поволжьем.
