2:45:21 everyone was spamming "eggs" because there were some enemies in the event that were kinda shaped like eggs and that's what everyone called them. What's funny is that those eggs were one of the most annoying parts of the stage, and players either brute forced through them or made their event clear last about 2 or so hours

A note, since I wasn't there to attend the stream: The Lingering Echoes Lobby Theme is actually two different things, the first being a song that the in-game character Czerny composes for piano (himself), flute (Ebenholz), and cello (Kreide) called "Licht und Schatten." The three of them perform the piece in concert. The second is that the actual track is an arrangement of a piece by the real life Carl Czerny, his "Introduzione e Rondo brillant in B-Flat Major, Op. 233," whose key instruments are, once again, piano, cello, and flute.

The music has so much impact with us because we have played the game, many of us since the very beginning. We've wondered about places like Iberia and Laterano long before they were ever featured. That's why songs like Stulifera Cantus and Martyr holds such sway, not just because of the music being awesome, but also the emotional connection it has with us.
There's also the fact that stories like Lingering Echoes just hits us so hard, and right at the climax of the action, we hear the song that we now associate with the tragedy...

This year was crazy in term of music but also gameplay and universe and it was good look back to it with you.
Can't wait to see you play the game and discover, in addition to the insane quality and texture of them, why those music mean so much to us. The story only gets better with time and even if you don't have the time to get far into it, I hope you will have time to read most of it while listening to it again!
Your reaction to the P&CS Distortion Theme (1:42:04) was interesting.
For context, when you're traversing in the game mode's map, the theme that usually plays is the Lobby theme of P&CS (1:33:20). That is the normal circumstance in a P&CS run.
However, there will be instances where something called a "Hallucination" happens. Thats where the Distortion theme plays. Also, a message will be shown to you that says:
_A disorderly rhythm plays in your head. You feel you are hallucinating._
Hallucinations basically affect the map and change some aspects. Sometimes, your map will be bigger, sometimes you cant see ahead of the map at all or sometimes enemies become stronger than usual, things like that. Those things may occur and the Disortion theme plays and replaces the Lobby theme instead.
Now you've said that the song feels dilapidated and at the first parts of the song it seems to me that like you look confused or having that 'something's off' kind of feeling. If you did then in my opinion the song portrayed the situation it wants to portray to you well: confusion, unease and the illusions happening.
Last thing, thank you so much for the stream, even extending it longer than it should! Sadly wasnt able to join live cause timezone plus prepaid internet issues. Would love to hear more of you, especially your analyses of the various themes!

I would very much recommend listening to all the music in the (A Walk in the Dust) event it's one of the very few events that I'd consider true canon as it covers the back story of one of the key characters in the main story it's full of orchestral melancholic songs and the characters main theme is called "Immutable" is absolutely gorgeous highly recommend it.
I must correct you. Every event made (other than IS#3 ending 2, 3, 4 and monthly stories of IS#3) are canon to the story. It's just Darknights Memoir and Walk in the Dust are connected to main story chapters.
@ドランク I fully know that but I guess I miswrote it every event aside from IS are considered canon most of them are backstories like (lingering echos, light spark in the darkness, twilight of wolumond, etc.) and others serve to further character arcs like (dossoles, nearlight, etc.), but no matter what "A walk in the dust" and "Dark knights Memoir" are special cuz you literally cannot understand parts of the main story without them. I will, however, however say that Dossoles and Nearlight also feel different because they too affect the main story if at all slightly so I wish they mention it in the story a little like Nearlight, in particular, in particular has Nearl an elite operator that saved our butts in episode 1 leave rhodes island for an indefinite amount of time as well as her character arc is nuts not to mention it's very rare (at least for me It has never been seen before) but we got directly involved in nearlight, in all the side stories I played I never saw the doctor or amiya get directly involved (The story is always told through the parties involved in the story) even in Darknights Memoir doctor and amiya appear as 3rd parties, individuals seen from the prespective of W unlike in Nearlight which is why I felt like Nearlight was a part of the main storyline, and I think is also why Nearlight is my favorite side story in AK and then Dossoles shows how different chen became ever since we left Lungmen we see all sorts of (compassion, care, and understanding) essentially I think players would get wiplash if they played dossoles before episode 5 because of how starkily different she is.
@@hardcoregamer739 indeed. I personally see Arknights as a story of worldbuilding so everything is there to expand the world alongside the mainstory and may one day converge to a major point some day.

The name of the in-universe song for Lingering Echoes's Lobby them is called "Light and Shadow". The sad cello is the Shadow while the high pitched flute is the light.
This has got to be the biggest Arknights music reaction I've ever seen, I also had fun jamming out to music
Can't believe I missed out on this, hearing some of these tracks again really brought me back to the times when I was playing the stages with these tracks in them, especially the Near Light music. that was the first event I fully completed without using a single guide, (I had used guides in the past but that was only for the really really hard stages) so I have fond memories of that time
My friends and I have this running joke. Hypergryph studio’s is a really a labeling company / animation company. That just happens to have a game. We are all addicted to the game for sure. but the music, animations, community, musicians, artists are what really make this game shine.

I totally agree with your comments at the end. Expression is a key of an art like music, literature and so on, in my oppinion. I really enjoy arknights because I can always feel the producers are trying to use the story, music and everything to talk about some topics. Since you decide to try arknights, I would recommand you to read the story of Guiding ahead after you get some basic idea of the AK world if you're interested in. I quite like the discussion about religion, life and death and how people explore their way of life.
So a bit I'd have loved to chime in live if I wasn't an hour late.... The Lingering Echoes boss themes... I have my own thoughts on how they represent the story within the fight. Spoilers for the Lingering Echoes event if anyone cares, sadly it just ended but I'm sure it'll re-run.
The first song is phase 1 of the fight and it isn't until about midway through the fight until "The Witch King" comes out... He's long dead and is manifesting by possessing the body of one of his descendants.. When you beat him down is when you hear the vocal solo, boss battle theme #2... The Witch King stops where you fell him and starts attacking enemies as they spawn, as if to help you... I believe this song represents his descendant's anguish and regret as he tries in one more desperate attempt to do some good for you, and the king's other descendent... And then he returns to the attack, becoming an enemy once more as the rest of the song starts, which is such a powerful song filled with determination, anger, sorrow and desperation...And I feel like that part of the song represents both sides of the battle.. the fight to take down the witch king and save your loved ones, as I am sure that is how the possessed one feels as well deep within his mind. (Also sadly during the fight, the boss does hurt himself periodically, which also might debatably be the descendent fighting back even still.)

Even if somehow you don't enjoy the game because TD with very tactical and strategical gameplay is not everyone cup of tea but surely you would fall in love with Arknights music and how diversely they are (in terms of musical genre), so i hope you keep reacting to it's music and surely we, the dokutah, will keep watching your reactions...

That was a perfect ending of the stream, and such a high compliment from someone who know a lot about music.
Honestly how Arknights music capture my heart was partly how diverse it is, they really pushing boundary of "one game one style of music" that we are so use to in the past.
So many genre of music jam pack into one game and none of the track is bad, that is such a mind blowing concept. There are popular music from some game that probably better than Arknights music, but if you look at the whole game or franchise none of them even come close to deliver such a banger on every song.
BTW Invitation to Wine Lobby Theme give you hope cuz the blue woman rob your wallet and now they are telling you it's okay to keep living.
There's always that one guy that has to talk about Arknights lore and what not, it's always useful as additional context for what you're actually listening to and why it was composed the way it was. So, let's talk about Lingering Echoes and its boss battle theme, because it's quite unique, the only other theme that does a similar thing would be "Lullaby" from the game's main story, to my knowledge anyway.
To understand this theme, I have to delve a bit into the event's story. Without going into too much detail, this story features Ebenholz as one of the 2 main protagonists, and goes into his relationship with Kreide, a young infected man. Both of them were experimented on as children to try and "revive" the country's previous ruler, the Witch King. As the name implies, the Witch King was a keen user of witchcraft, witchcraft that translated into music because in the world of Arknights, music is performed the same way regular "magic" is, through the power of Originium, the game's main source of conflict.
Long story short, Kreide ended up being a failed experiment who somehow survived and the goal of this tragedy is to save either him or Ebenholz from the Witch King's influence, while the other has to die.
Of course, since Ebenholz is the 6* playable character introduced in the event, you can guess who ends up sacrificing himself. At the end of the event, Kreide turns into a kind of monster who must be stopped, the actual boss we face in the game, and he briefly recovers consciousness before dying, defying his destiny in the process.
So what about the theme? Fittingly, it's one of a kind since it's part of THE musical event of Arknights. Now yes, we have had themes before that resonate with the story it's tied to, with the vast majority, if not all, occurances happening in the main story. However, it's the first time we get a 3 parts theme.
The first half of this theme is about the beginning of the fight. Kreide has supposedly lost himself and turned into a monster that must be stopped at all costs. That's why it sounds so triumphant, it's not so different from a boss you would encounter in Dark Souls. A bit of interpretation you can make is that the vocals are the cultists who conducted the experiment, chanting about the return of their leader (though this is highly debatable as vocals are present throughout), while the violin is the twisted influence of the Witch King on Kreide.
The interlude is entirely unique to this boss. When you first deplete his health bar, before transitioning into phase 2, he will become a temporary ally who helps you in battle. Story wise this is supposed to be Kreide's final respite rather than the middle point but it was a clever trick to shift the meaning of your in-game fight. You're not fighting a monster, you're trying to save a friend. It's short lived, carried entirely by vocals, and full of tranquil sorrow.
Then we finally hit the second half, which isn't triumphant anymore, it's faster paced, frenetic almost, with the vocals carrying the tragic aspect of the entire ordeal.
I will be honest, I don't think Lingering Echoes was that good of an event, the execution of that story felt really lacking to me, but its music was certainly on point and actually woven into the narrative, definitely one of my favorite themes in Arknights.

I wanted to catch this stream when it happened, but I was out of the house. I'm so glad I sat down for three hours to listen to all these reactions, and to hear these analyses from the man himself. Very entertaining and insightful stream. Congrats for picking up the game! Arknights has a great community. I've always joined the community injoke about Hypergryph being a music company that advertises through a mobile game, but the fact that a professional can see the depth to the Arknights soundtrack is incredible. I liked watching chat go crazy over certain loved (and hated) mechanics and the event stories that these songs evoke. Let me tell you, experiencing something like Inivitation to Wine, Near Light, and Lingering Echoes as entire experiences, with the story, characters, music, and gameplay, is insane. It's a level of depth I never expected from a mobile game, which is how I got hooked.
I play Arknights all the time, so I'm usually super focused on the game and strategizing. I never really stood still and just took it all in and listen to the entire track.
And wow, yea, some of the songs are absolutely insane like you've said. I absolutely love it.
I know your list of reactions that people want you to do is propably endless.
But considering you ranked "Invitation to Wines Lobby theme" as your #1 I would strongly urge you to someday check out "Arknights What the firelight casts lobby theme" It has a similar feel of home/homecoming to it and you'd definitely enjoy it very much. Have a good rest!

When Marco starts taking off his sweater you know that the flight of the bumblebee got him hot.
Honestly hearing this was a breather since it was played in an opera and most I've seen people play it just for clout because it's a fast piece but 'these' people play it so faster than the original piece that you can't even hear what's behind the music shows or tells.
Glad to see you're enjoying the music for this game as much as you do on a lot more of game music out there.

Thing is that the only way I've found the complete version is with a Japanese name in Spotify.

Just FYI, there is an Arknights songs playlist called "Official EP" and every EP is a song that represents a 6 star character lore and personality in the game. Tho there are EPs for other characters too, every 6 operator has an EP now, so if you want to check them out it would be really fun.

Wow! Shame I missed this, this is fantastic! I rarely watch full stream VODs, but this was such an enjoyable 3 hours! Love all your insight on especially the classical music inspired pieces, I've listened to the IS2 Lobby theme so many times and never even caught onto the Phantom of the Opera Music Box element. I suppose there was potentially some limitations with this being sponsored (grats btw), but would love to see you react to some of the ones you skipped due to time and the character themes (like Ständchen) if you want to!

Lingering Echoes' lobby theme is adapted from Carl Czerny's Introduzione e Rondo brillant in B-Flat Major, by the way, and both of the tutorials are named after his sets of piano exercises. (Looking up what op. 599 was made me laugh so hard.)
