There is absolutely Nothing like singing in a chorus or choir. It's not just the melding of the music. It's the melding of the human spirit. CHORUS/CHOIRS FOREVER!!!!!!!!
Agreed, Beth. In this last year of being so isolated, this posting of faces, voices and instruments brings a joy that was missing since not being in a member of a choir.

I so miss my choir, miss the elastics in my music folder snapping at the most inopportune time, miss kicking my water bottle under a pew. God, I need to sing! Thank you!

Life has been a struggle the past year or so. My wife and I met in our college chorus, we sang in our church choir, and performed around the county, but she died this past summer. I may not have a great voice but singing brings me joy. I try to go back to this performance to bring me back to music. Great song and these musicians, especially Guiliana Sarullo, show how much music can mean to them and all of us. And, Guiliana does double duty both singing and playing flute. Thank you, all of you.
Keep singing Sir. Heaven will hear. Eternity is forever. We just must wait our turn. Heavenly Father ABBA and His Son Yeshua loves you and is keeping your wife in their arms.
This song is the very heart and soul of one of my favorite Finnish hymns that I've been wishing all the English speaking world could enjoy... Then this week I found this one!!!! It's so much the impression of the song "Maa on niin kaunis" which of course is sung to the tune of "Fairest Lord Jesus" but with totally different words. If anyone wants to listen to that one, you're in for a treat. And you can find a translation if you search. Music is so beautiful, especially when used to praise our Savior and Creator, who is blessed forever, and coming soon. Great job with this, everyone! Maranatha!!!
I've been making some peace with the notion of worship without singing. Then I came across this and remembered that my faith was formed as much in choir as in church. Now, I don't know what we are going to do when we get back to church. But also, I think in all of this I've also not truly grieved what has been lost...I've been trying to fight it off. But this helps me, if only to remind me of what keeps me hopeful and to remind me of what I want to reclaim when 'normalcy' returns.
Grieving the loss of singing, though temporary, is painful, as it is what brings joy to so many! I hope I will have an opportunity to sing with others, virtually, and look forward to the day we can lift our voices together in person! God bless!
This was just gorgeous. Thank you so much. I was going to say simply gorgeous but there is nothing simple here. I cannot imagine all the work this took in post-production to create this video, matching singers and instrumentalists, adjusting sound levels, and creating the video. It was worth every second. I miss hearing people sing and play instruments together so much. This rendition of this beautiful hymn made me cry and feel utter joy at the same time (As Lily Tomlin's Edith Ann says, "two feelings for the price of one!"). I so appreciate everyone's contributions to this creation.
wow! I have no idea how much skill on how many levels is involved in technological perfection of this fabulous, inspiring, soothing, comforting . . . virtual piece. I play this often, and I'm always intrigued, blessed with joy by it!
I'm a choir singer and my group has sung this. But this arrangement is the most gorgeous, perfect setting of a fabulous piece of music. I've been playing it over & over and have shared it with everyone I know. I LOVE seeing everyone's faces in the video. Thanks to all involved in bringing it to us.
I had this song stuck in my head from church, and tried to find a recording on TH-cam. THIS is the most beautiful performance of the song that I have ever heard. Thank you
I can't remember a time in my life when there wasn't singing. I am 74 and miss this so very much. I have always loved this song and the arrangement is stunning. I am trying to produce one of these with my own choir{ I have a choir of about 70 voices} and watching this only made me want to do it more. I was not able to really sing along, but perhaps the lump will be more gone during the second time! Thank you so much for this!
Technology has finally proven its real worth...to bring so many of us together in a purely joyous celebration of beauty and hope. I am a habitue of the concert and recital hall, and this gathering of musicians is thrilling to me! Is this the new iteration of "chamber" music. Thank you.
It was the summer of 1998, in suburban Chicago. at Loyola Hospital. Clinical Pastoral Education, basic course. One of my colleagues/fellow students was named Amy, a Lutheran/ELCA seminary student from Iowa. The first time I heard this song was at a local church, where she led Sunday worship and preached a mighty fine sermon. I was thrilled at this wonderful hymn, never forgot that experience, and enjoy it to this day. I also have used it in my worship ministry. God Bless Amy, and all who serve the Lord. And thanks be to God for this awesome video gift!!

This beautiful rendition of Robert Lowry's hymn made my spirit soar and my eyes moisten. As a choral singer, I love the synergy that emerges when voices and instruments meld to create an uplifting experience - shivers and all. BRAVO for this production and all the participants. You truly have shown us the light at the end of this dark tunnel we are experiencing. May we all find the will and the grace to live and sing in harmony and love our neighbors far and wide.
Thank you for this timely reminder and encouragement :) "Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights." Habakkuk 3:17-19
Just before discovering this hymn rendition, my son was perusing an 1883 hymnal in my collection (Gospel Hymns Consolidated) that had this hymn title with a different melody. He was so taken by the hymn that he looked it up on TH-cam and found this lovely rendition. The lyrics in my hymnal were attributed to "Anon." But while the lyrics of this virtual choir rendition are almost entirely lifted from the 1883 hymn, the meaning is entirely different in that hymnal: My life flows on in endless song Above earth's lamentation I hear the sweet tho' far-off hymn That hails a new creation Through all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing It finds an echo in my soul How can I keep from singing What though my joys and comforts die The Lord my Saviour liveth What though the darkness gather round Songs in the night He giveth No storm can shake my inmost calm While to that refuge clinging Since Christ is Lord of heav'n and earth How can I keep from singing I lift my eyes the cloud grows thin I see the blue above it And day by day this pathway smooths Since first I learned to love it The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart A fountain ever springing All things are mine since I am His How can I keep from singing While I absolutely love the NYC Virtual Choir musical rendition of this hymn, it saddens me that there has evidently been a conscious effort somewhere along the way since 1883 to conceal the anonymous author's real source for singing. Somehow, our growing post-Christian world has drifted away from what once gave life, in my view, a much deeper and significant meaning.
Glad you've enjoyed the rendition. Our choice to edit the lyrics to be more inclusive follows from the purpose of putting this particular project together. We hoped to bring many choirs from different backgrounds together in solidarity during a difficult time for NYC (and the world at large). The more inclusive lyrics that we've used are an attempt to preserve the power of this old hymn while opening the doors to non-christians who want to be part of the message. Thanks for listening.
@@PoddBrothers While I understand what was attempted was likely done with good intentions, when the line is changed from "since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth" to "since love prevails in heaven and earth", without including a note in the title about it being altered, this disrespects the original writer and his likely intention to give Christ glory (not to mention, disrespecting Christ Himself), and results in appropriation. From the Christian perspective, there is no way to preserve the power of this hymn while also removing from the song the basis of it's power- Christ- the source of life, love, and peace in a world of uncertainty. It fundamentally alters the meaning of the song. The concept of Christ being Lord as the source of hope is a critical tenant of the Christian faith: "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." Romans 10:9-10. I hope this helps explain why some might be concerned about the change in lyrics.
Love, love this performance and every soul in it. I’ve experienced it quite a few times over the past year and feel like I know everyone! 😊 it’s a very good thing as I’ve been having hard times the past couple of years and this sometimes helps my spirit.
Whoever reads: If you refuse to look on devastation you will see glory! Keep your eyes on Jesus. He is not surprised..He looks down on you like a Cheerleader to strengthen you in struggle. Remember: HE won the war!.
What an uplifting and heart-soothing rendition of one of my favorite hymns! Right now, I am homebound, but, in the past, I have sung in church choirs as well as directed them. Singing with others, in a congregation or a choir, is one of the things I miss the very most. I am deeply grateful to every one of you who were involved in making this in any way, especially for sharing your talents, time and hard work as you created this video; listening to it, singing along with it has brought the Spirit of the Lord into my home and heart, and this spiritual gift has helped to make my Sabbath feel more like a Sabbath. May the Lord bless and keep each of you, and may He continue to inspire and lead the Podd Brothers in their writing and arranging of other, sacred pieces.
How can I keep from singing! Throughout the paindemic (yes - pain…) this recording kept me afloat filling me with hope. Uplifted! I missed singing with my choir so much I could not sing without sobbing, so I relied on you and the lyrics of this piece of music to keep me grounded. Can’t thank you enough for all the beauty and spirit you brought to me and our upside down world. Thanks 🙏 Bless each of you always.

An amazing performance of this powerful song! The piece was written by the wonderful and talented Sarah Quartel who lives in my hometown of London Ontario. She conducted our choir singing this song back in March and it was a great experience!
This song and this arrangement is so movingly beautiful. It is a musical meditation with so much meaning because of the times we are living in. Thank you so much for bringing everyone together, individually, to perform this. Bravo to all of you, singers and musicians. I cannot keep from watching.

though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights."
Habakkuk 3:17-19
Thank you for sharing this beautiful scripture. A blessing! God bless
Such beautiful verses! God is our sure and steadfast hope for whatever trials we face. We will spend all eternity singing His Praises.....!
Just before discovering this hymn rendition, my son was perusing an 1883 hymnal in my collection (Gospel Hymns Consolidated) that had this hymn title with a different melody. He was so taken by the hymn that he looked it up on TH-cam and found this lovely rendition. The lyrics in my hymnal were attributed to "Anon." But while the lyrics of this virtual choir rendition are almost entirely lifted from the 1883 hymn, the meaning is entirely different in that hymnal:
My life flows on in endless song
Above earth's lamentation
I hear the sweet tho' far-off hymn
That hails a new creation
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing
It finds an echo in my soul
How can I keep from singing
What though my joys and comforts die
The Lord my Saviour liveth
What though the darkness gather round
Songs in the night He giveth
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging
Since Christ is Lord of heav'n and earth
How can I keep from singing
I lift my eyes the cloud grows thin
I see the blue above it
And day by day this pathway smooths
Since first I learned to love it
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart
A fountain ever springing
All things are mine since I am His
How can I keep from singing
While I absolutely love the NYC Virtual Choir musical rendition of this hymn, it saddens me that there has evidently been a conscious effort somewhere along the way since 1883 to conceal the anonymous author's real source for singing. Somehow, our growing post-Christian world has drifted away from what once gave life, in my view, a much deeper and significant meaning.
@@Adelicows Good choice. I like this melody better, too.
Christ is God and God is love, no?
Love, love this performance and every soul in it. I’ve experienced it quite a few times over the past year and feel like I know everyone! 😊 it’s a very good thing as I’ve been having hard times the past couple of years and this sometimes helps my spirit.
Whoever reads: If you refuse to look on devastation you will see glory! Keep your eyes on Jesus. He is not surprised..He looks down on you like a Cheerleader to strengthen you in struggle. Remember: HE won the war!.
Thank you for keeping on singing. You are all a thing of beauty and joy!
Amazing it boost my morale to continue singing in the worship service for the glory of the Lord.. God bless you all..
While though the tempest round me roars, I know the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness round me close, songs in the night it giveth.
Wow. An unseen reality beyond understanding.
Thank you so much. Your musical presence means a lot!
Life without music would be what? The heartbeat of the soul!!
I can't stop watching....and SINGING! Bravo and thanks for the blessing!

How can I keep from crying.......salve to the soul. Bless you for doing this.
Loving the two cells for the cellos...one for the player, one for the instrument.
The human spirit is irrepressible. Thanks for sharing this,.
It’s amazing the power of technology to draw people together. The absolute joy of singers’ smiling faces, moving to the music and a fantastic arrangement. Viewed in Ireland. Thoroughly loved it.
I love You God, You're so good to us‼️❤️
An amazing performance of this powerful song! The piece was written by the wonderful and talented Sarah Quartel who lives in my hometown of London Ontario. She conducted our choir singing this song back in March and it was a great experience!
This made me cry at the beauty of these voices. Please keep singing! ❤️
This song and this arrangement is so movingly beautiful. It is a musical meditation with so much meaning because of the times we are living in. Thank you so much for bringing everyone together, individually, to perform this. Bravo to all of you, singers and musicians. I cannot keep from watching.
So inspiring. Glad the virus has not kept all these musicians from singing and playing. Thanks.
