- After rewatching the film...yeah, it's better than the new film The Predator...but I still am not a fan of this movie.
Predators is a 2010 American science fiction action film directed by Nimród Antal and starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, and Laurence Fishburne.
It was distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is the third installment of the Predator franchise (the fifth counting the two Alien vs. Predator films), following Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990). A sequel, The Predator, was released in 2018.
The film follows an ensemble cast of characters including Royce (Adrien Brody), a mercenary who appears in an unidentified jungle among other murderers and otherwise undesirable people.
They find that they have been abducted and placed on a planet which acts as a game reserve for two warring tribes of extraterrestrial killers, and actively look for a way to return to Earth.
Producer Robert Rodriguez had developed a script as early as 1994, although it was not until 2009 that 20th Century Fox greenlit the project.
According to Rodriguez, the title Predators is an allusion to the second film in the Alien franchise, Aliens (1986) The title also has a double meaning, referring both to the extraterrestrial Predator creatures and to the group of human characters who are pitted against them.

Predators had so much potential to be better, the storyline was there but the execution was diabolical. And Rodriguez has the nerve criticise predator 2 🤔🤔
The story itself is rather stupid. I don’t understand abducting people and dropping them onto another planet with their weapons to kill them when they could have hunted and killed them on Earth. Also having “Super” Predators with less weaponry than the ones we’ve seen before was lame. They’re Super but they have to hunt in trios?
Even if you can get past the stupid retcon premise, the amount of times this movie borrows lines or scenes from P1 or needs to throw in some wink or copied idea from P1 is cringe-worthy trash. To the point where it seems like a parody.
The one thing I do like about this movie is Adrien Brody, believe it or not. He’s very different from Dutch or Harrigan - a lone wolf type who only looks out for himself and has to eventually decide to help the others if he wants to survive. He’s original in that sense... until he covers himself in mud with a torch in hand and is saying Dutch lines verbatim.
Laurence Fishburne’s character had potential to be neat. A guy with Predator armor and weapons... but he never does anything cool with any of it. He is introduced stealing Mac’s lines. “Over here.” “Turn around.”
When the Yakuza guy stays behind with the sword, the score rips off the score from when Billy stays behind with the big knife. Everything in this movie that has potential to be original or cool gets undercut with their constant aping of the first movie.
Yeah I thought it was really weird to start the movie with them randomly landing on the planet. Dumb premise.

I agree, because the first two movies give the impression that the Predators travel the universe searching for creatures to hunt.
If they had cast anyone like Van Damme on the lead role, this movie would have been great. Brody is a good actor but not playing a tough mercenary guy who is bad ass. And what's up with him talking like that? The rest of the movie is fine, but Brody brings the movie down for me.
I'll always remember seeing this in theatres cause it was on a first date with a nurse. My glory days.
this movie was a total piece of shit but I still would watch it over the new predator movie and that's still not saying much the first 2 predator movies will always be the best ever

@@perrymehta6438 i appreciate the Predators film does at times feel like a remake of the original. Jungle setting etc. But atleast it isnt loaded with forced out of place humour like the new one. In Schwarzeneggers film there is humour but as soon as the characters are been picked off there is a shift to a more serious tone. Having said that if you prefer the new flick thats cool.

Why does every movie dealing with a desolate isolated setting have to have a random survivalist person pop up halfway through to invite the main character into their bunker and then die within twenty minutes. War of the Worlds did this with Tim Robbins and it was so stupid. I Am Legend too. Always ruins the story

I Really Like Adrian Brody he’s a Good Actor, very Charismatic & Talented, Not 1 of my favorite actors, But I Like Him, I Love Solo 1996, The Thin Red Line, Predators, Wrecked, & Dragon Blade are my Favorites & His Bests IMO, I Like The Pianist, Singer Detective, The Jacket, King Kong 2005, Splice, American Heist, & Bullet Head are Ok but those are my Least Favorites Of his
After Fishburne’s character appears, the film goes downhill.
The final fight was good, but you can hardly see anything!
I thought this one was interesting, the idea of random people selected by Predators to go through a game of survival on an Alien Planet, I liked the cast especially Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne, and to be honest I thought brining Robert Rodriguez in to rejuvenate the series after the AVP disasters I was honestly cool with, Not as great as Predator or Predator 2 but definitely better than 2018 and AVP 2004 and requiem, anyways that's just my opinion to each their own
OK predator movie but I think predator 2 will always be the true sequel to predator.

I did kind of like Predators back then but then it grew on me of not liking the movie anymore because it really is a remake to the first movie with the slow burn and a lot of call backs to the first movie so fuck Predators Predator 2 is the best sequel in the series
This movie is okay to me. I don't hate it and can watch it as a time waster. Shame Neil Marshall was replaced as director for this movie. He would have done a better job :(
Agreed. It would have been interesting to see what Neil Marshall could have achieved on a healthy american budget after his work on Dog Soldiers and The Descent.

It had few decent parts, but even after all these years later and watching it again, i still don't care about this film. And to tell you the truth Matt, i wasn't that impressed with original script by Robert Rodriguez either. Maybe if the movie kept the same level of action and gore like that script i would like it more, but even in that version story and characters weren't much, including Dutch. And with all its problems at least the new movie has better pacing, though still too fast IMO, which is just one of the reasons why i prefer that one lot more over this one. But let me tell you Matt, your ideas for Predator films are better than both of these films :) And hearing you mention DNA, i think i'll try to find that movie and watch it again, because i'm pretty sure last time i saw it was over ten years ago.
Also Matt, if you still have the old info i sent you about original script for The Predator, don't worry it's O.K to talk about it now that the movie is out, so feel free to mention any of it in your rant, like the original ending with whole convoy chase and shootout with humans and good Predators fighting against Upgrade and other hybrids, which was even shown in trailers for the film.

I. Joe 2, Machete Kills, Maze Runner 3, & Ant Man 2 are Ok but those are my Least favorites of his

This movie was just mediocre and it could obviously never match the first two but it at least had some potential, they should have just made a sequel on this film instead of making that new dogshit Predator film.

@Rogue Fox It could have been awesome if we got a Sequel to Predators (2010).
With a Sequel we could have explored more about the Predator's Culture and learn more about Super Predators because I liked that concept.
But Nope! Instead we got Shane Black's Failure called The Predator (2018). Say what you want about Predators (2010) but at least it still has the spirit of Original Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990).
There is nothing to find in The Predator (2018).
It is as much shallow and hollow as the two AvP Movies.
Yeah it would have been much more acceptable to fans if they had just continued from the 2010 movie. I would had liked to see what happened to Brody and his female companion. Did they ever got out of the game reserve? Guess we'll never know.

Horrormaster13 The AVP games were alright though, it was just a mistake to set them in the modern day which made no sense.
The Laurence Fishburne part of the film always makes me laugh. I have to assume it was intentionally comedic.

i liked this movie a lot more then The Predator
The Yakuza vs Predator scene was one of the best Predator scenes IMO. But as a whole the movie sucked.

This is one of those movies that doesn’t need to exist. It’s not bad, but why not just watch predator.
Maybe I would like this movie more if it had more going on and if there were not large stretches of boredom where very little happens! Most of the characters aren't interesting enough. The film just screeches to a halt once Lawrence Fishburne's character is introduced, but thankfully that part doesn't last too long. And the Berserker Predator although bigger, does not look nearly as good as the Jungle hunter predator.
Add another 25 million dollars budget and a few more months for pre and post production can do wonder. I think the studio wanted it quick just to see of it works
Personally I thought Predators was a Badass Movie IMO, Great Cast I thought Adrian Brody, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne, Oleg Taktarov, Alice Braga, & Walton Goggins did a great job in the film didn’t care for Topher Grace In The film Though, Great Action, Well Written & Directed, it’s 1 of my Favorites in the Franchise ❤
I didn't really like the characters in the first alien that much / they were extremely unlikable except for Ripley in my opinion / Thats what kinda hurt the first movie for me. Its one of the reasons I appreciate Aliens a lot more / The first movie is well made but the characters do let it down a bit

As a fan of the first two movies. Apart from some decent gore i dont know how anybody can possibly defend the latest film. It was an apsolute joke.

The predator dogs were the worst part of the movie. Predators collecting people and then hunting them is stupid. They showed predator face too early. They didn't give the Predators enough time using their invisibility while slowly working towards the final reveal. I don't think I will ever watch this one again.

The best part of this movie was the aa-12.
Predators should of been Dutch and Harrigan teaming up. Predators should of been like Aliens. What we got, sucks! Great rant.
Correct pal. Dutch and Harrigan leading some Special Ops guys in Predator 3. Now that movie i would of payed hard cash to have watched at theatres.

I actually hate this more than The Predator from 2018.
Don’t get me wrong,
2018 is a pretty bad and dumb film, but at least it feels different than this.
This 2010 film says it’s a sequel but yet feels like a rehashed remake of the 1987 film. And yeah it homaged the original film way too often.
The predator dogs also felt stupid and unneeded as well as the plot with Fishburne’s character felt forced as well.
Acting wasn’t bad, and I did like that Skull Predator and the final fight.
Good job on the video Matt! I would probably say I'm a bit more lenient on the movie than you are but it's still not a great movie and one of the biggest problems with the film is that it just rehashes stuff from the first movie like you said bro!
I actually don't mind Predators. It's alright if you don't like it, and I can understand why. But I don't mind it.

Love your idea of having other alien races battling alongside humans/or against them- would of been way better than this shadow of a movie.

Adrian Brody admitted in an interview he was probably the wrong choice for this role. I think it says something when even the actor himself claims he was miscast.
