Roshaad... I was actually trying to refer to Lucky Dube (may he rest in peace) and his song reggae business. However if we really really wanted to be purist, we could say that the roots lie in Trinidad, in the 20's, when calypso first came out and was sung in Afro-French patois. But yeah, I know it's Jamaican, especially Kingston. All what matters is the vibe, peace and harmony. respect to you brother... ;-)
The Japanese have taken Ska to the level of excellence. Mighty Crown is a very big competitor in the dancehall. Uzume is a very good band. I haven't seen any new bands in Jamaica for a very long time. Dance went on until daylight because there weren't so many violent perpetrators. Now all that's changed. I went to a dance in Japan with Mighty Crown & was shocked in observance of the way these guys were full of vibes. Nuff respect to the Japanese, Jamaicans & all other cultures who are helping us to preserve our heritage.
I will have to contact my friends in Japan to find out. This was not the band I went to cover so I didn't catch their name. I also came in half way through their set. I'll hit you when I find out. Thank you for watching
@mellowmood29 Just wanted to add that if you add other sounds to reggae you get a reggae feel but you no longer have reggae. You can add only so much b4 you have a different sound and can't call it reggae anymore. It is a new form of music. When rocksteady changed they realized the new sound was reggae and when reggae changed the new sound became dancehall. Change is ok and spreading it in the world is great. Just don't put things in the wrong category.
@GuillaumeMaze Whoa whoa whoa dont get carried away there. Reggae is and was and has always been Jamaican. What next people will be pondering who came up with cars?
Nobody really knows where reggae started... Africa? W.I? UK? why not Asia? And who really cares? One sound, one vibe, one people, all of us..It's everywhere, like Jah...Respect bro!
Where is this Girl? I cannot find her anywhere! I must though. Even if I find out she's dead or retired. I will remember the name Uzume the Japanese Reggae Artist. I already having my reggae man Tank Dread on the search. She will be found.
Catherine Chandler mostly jamaicans do not accept forighn reggae because many of them show no respect for jamaica but we tend to really like japanese people hey check this out "protoje misic from my heart ", and to boot countries who have no culture of drums cannot mange reggae these guys are a b plus for me they are good.
This is what I don't like about Rastafari culture. Cultures do mix, they always did. Jamaica had many different influences in order to create their style, so did this band. Culture mixes and thus embraces something new
@ManuChao4live it is exactly that mr chao. BTW was wathcing 'cops with cameras' or some other shit the other day and there was a guy getting arrested for attacking a cop and he was wearing a Manu Chao t shirt!
GuillaumeMaze is totaly right :) but i would really like to know what she 's singing about, since i don't understand any Japanese. ^^ and i would like to know who she is, cause she sings very well! i really like her voice, and i like the band as well. :)
@GuillaumeMaze I get your point but we do know where it was created! Certain music comes from certain places! Reggae started in Jamaica. The style known as reggae and classified as reggae started there. I agree that now it is everywhere....but Jamaica is where is started.
