so refreshing to hear people that ACTUALLY like the garden talk about them, they never get the respect they deserve but u guys really hit the nail on the head with a lot of this
Whaaa?? Some people truly hate the Garden?😳 like im not from US so The Garden isn't very popular band im my country anyways, but like they make supper dope music which is actually also pretty clever and intelegent in a way. So I guess The Garden haters just shit on them cause they're good lookin guys and models or something?
Thanks for the nice comment! We both love the Garden and were surprised with the little attention the Shears twins get too. Given the view count on this video, there are plenty more fans out there!
The way they blend sounds is truly unique. Thrash punk/ vocals, and then upbeat acoustic guitar riffs. Love how the shears twins dont seem to give a shit about mass-appeal, just their own art
As someone who has been following this band for almost a decade now it's truly just 2 bros having fun. You can easily tell their influences like ATR, Prodigy, death grips, minutemen, etc and how they incorporate them with their style which is really cool. It's sad how with the closing of burger records a lot of their older stuff can become lost media so if anyone has stuff from that era try to preserve it to the best of your ability.
I love how unique they are, i heard their 2020 album first and fell in love with their music. I think the purpose of their albums being different is to show what they mean by vada vada, they scream, they rap, they sing, and know how to put their sounds together well. i wish i saw them live during haha ive grown to love that album.
This album is so fucking sick. It's my intro to the garden but I listened to it once and it clicked immediately, haven't stopped listening to it 6x a day since. Also the word I think you were looking for re: sugar ray is 'interpolation'
I first came across "girl" by Puzzle in 2015 which got me into the garden during college. "haha" is my all-time favorite but I really enjoy the heavier transition in more recent albums.
love this video. i really wish more people knew about their entire discography. their deep cuts are awesome and "haha" is my favorite full album. my favorite EP, the first one i heard, is "u want the scoop?" and i have it on vinyl!
you said exactly what i was thinking about when i first listened to the album. hsor66 did a good job of highlighting what theyre unique as in terms of music. based video
I've been a fan probably longer than most people here, I discovered them when they were opening for Warpaint here in the UK 2015 (needless to say, I don't listen to Warpaint anymore) and they totally upstaged them. It was just unreal how two young lads could be so amazing live, the showmanship had everyone stunned.
I’m also an old head fan, my friend Kris put them on in his room sometime in 2015. It’s so rare to find an artist whose work I like More as time goes on, ever release gets better. I like their vision.
I feel like this album is the entirety of my childhood and most of my upbringing in literal sonic form. And thats felt at such a level that I feel like you have to be literally from there to understand. This album is genius. How they managed to do that is honestly astonishing.
I described ‘Horseshit on Route 66’ on the Fantano review as feeling like a time traveler with a lot of wacky gadgets running through a gauntlet made up of the past 40 or 50 years of West Coast Hardcore history, fighting all of its many ghosts; I still feel that way after a bunch of listens. These two are people I could’ve bumped into at shows when I was a kid, these guys know the material they’re drawing inspiration from and they know exactly how to twist it. It legit makes me feel right at home while still experimenting and doing something unique. I was already a fan after ‘Mirror Might Steal Your Charm’ but this latest one really sealed the deal for me.
This is a review by people that don't seem to like (or really know) the thrash, punk themes that are consistent in Garden records. They say "screamo" in reference to the vocal style, which couldn't be more off. The last two Garden records have more in common with the sound of Operation ivy, The Locust, and Adolescents, etc then the things mentioned in this review.
The Garden was a huge part of my musical influence in the late 2000's and early 2010's. When I started working for a small independent label at the time, their sound was a huge influence to other artists that I had helped work with, as well as those who were featured. I remember Life and Times of a Paperclip being an incredibly formative album for me, both in terms of sound and aesthetic. All of their side projects seem to carry on the same vision as the original band. Glad to see some local angelinos reminisce on their history.
It's crazy for me to imagine someone starting at KMSBR but I started at MMSYC so I don't have much room to talk. Their style has just become more openly abrasive in the past two records.
im more of a new fan since i started to listen to them more in August of last year, but since then theyve been my fav band!! i found them out through enjoy
From what I understand, the Garden didn't throw him under the bus. They may no longer follow him on social, but I don't really have a problem with that. Weyes Blood allegedly had Mexican Summer remove her EP she did with Ariel. Which isn't cool, but I can understand an artist wanting to steer away from controversy and she never made any public statements condemning him. Other artists like Geneva Jacuzzi, Dam Funk and Azalea Banks supported Ariel when his entire music library was momentarily wiped from existence thanks to Mexican Summer. My real beef was with MGMT, they made a few public statements against him which was stupid since he helped write songs and mix (possibly?) on Little Dark Age. I don't think that album would've been nearly as popular without Ariel's contribution. It was disappointing to see MGMT joining the mob when they, at the very least, could have just said nothing. Hope that clarifies things, we'll probably talk about Ariel Pink (and John Maus) in a future episode since there's so much depth to both of them.
i feel that, but I also want them to be rich and happy, and they deserve all the fans in the world. With more fans, they'll be able to keep funding their career
That may not be the worst thing. I think they've proven that notoriety doesn't affect their sound. If a few songs pop off and the end result is a handful of normies end up discovering great music, then that's a win for them. But I also agree, the fake fans will be annoying and cringe.
@@__Goontopia__ as someone who saw fake garden fans in 2018 all over the place just worshipping them for how they look, yeah, i get real annoyed by that
yo video popped up on my recommend, I love The Garden. The album Kiss My Super Bowl Ring had songs that I wish didn't have the screaming/heavy. For example songs like, Lowrider Slug, Clench To Stay Awake, and A Struggle. I believe the songs were ruined with the heavy screaming. Lowrider Slug has such a good instrumental, but get's ruined by Ariel Pink screaming. Clench to Stay Awake, lyrics are fire but the middle part just ruins the song lol. Best albums I think from the Garden is Mirror Might Steal Your Charm and U want the Scoop. Nevertheless, The Garden has bangers in each of their albums.
Give it time. I was in the same boat when I heard Kiss My Super Bowl Ring, I never thought I'd come around to the screaming (especially after listening to Enjoy and Puzzle). Eventually, It eventually grew on me. Also, Ariel wasn't the one screaming on Lowrider Slug, he just sings the verse at around 2 minutes. I think Fletcher was screaming.

Their new album is their best by far! But haha and KMSBR are great too

With Ariel and the Garden being basically my two top listened to artists, I’m more than curious how the Garden threw Ariel under the bus?

Sussie, tell me you made it to 13:15 where I (Steve) clarify that I DO enjoy their music. I just hate them as people.
My hearts gonna break when 1 of their songs hits it big n trendy and everyone wants to jump on the band wagon, claiming to be “fans.”

No one would go see their shows (ie their stage presence) if they didn’t make good music.
