There are those that are out there. They say that video games are not and cannot be art. To those I say, you know not what you speak of. And to them I present Ori. A game, a story, a tale of art and beauty that surpass 99% of the drek produced by Hollywood, Netflix, and everything in between.
I agree. I recently revisited Kuro’s sacrifice scene and could barely avoid crying.
If anything, I think Ori taught me to love the more touching games.
Ori translates from Hebrew to "My Light." A beautiful name, and a beautiful story to fit.
I confess, I was on the verge of tears by the end of this video. Your voice made the story more impactful.
Every time I listen to this I am brought near to tears at the sadness and grief this story tells so well.

I would love to see you take on Child of Light! The art style of Ori is very similar and both have whimsical, fairytale like themes. Rich stories, I love them both.
I keep expecting this to rhyme, yet despite that it is still a tale of beauty.

The moment where the ground gives away, and Ori is literally fighting in the sky, what a description of how it feels for those of us who suffer and feel like the ground has given away, and we are standing against the worst, while trying to stand up and live.
I lost my mom to cancer when i was a kid. this game hit me hard when i played it.
When your channel came into my feed, I've been binging your lore videos.
But this one. Is special. For sure. I absolutely loved this game and I loved your poetic take on it. Like it's sooooo good! Thank you for taking the time to make it.

When I played Ori and the Blind Forest for the first time, I really hoped that Ori would rebel against Sein after they basically shrugged off the idea that they'd already murdered Kuro's children and wanted to continue on to murder her too. I thought that, surely, the story would pivot to Ori finding another way so that ALL the creatures of the forest could learn to live in harmony. I was then absolutely disgusted by both Ori and Sein when that never happened.
Ori - objectively the bad guy of the story. Such an absolute scumbag that I've yet to bring myself to play the villain again in the sequel.
One of the most interesting things about this game is how Ori isn’t just a silent protagonist, but his emotions are portrayed through the music. The music isn’t there to just be background music like in most games. The music is there for a reason. It tells you how Ori is feeling about the situation. it is not background, but rather it is Ori.

Beautiful game
If one pays close attention to the story, including the gameplay, the music, the interactions between the characters, and even the way things interact with Ori, this game is the story of depression, and the rise and fall and rise again of being through their depression.
Glad I never played this cause I would have been an emotional WRECK. Barely held it together just listening to you tell the story.

And the music is yet another metaphor for depression. When someone is in depression, they don’t have the words to properly express how they feel as everything that they feel is just that, wordless feelings. Things you can’t really describe. That’s how the music is because that’s how the game is. Cory cannot describe his feelings so the feelings are told through the mood of the music. But the music shares its duties as the wordless description of Horry‘s feelings along with the environment. Every piece of environment within the game is a representation of the wordless feelings. Ori is feeling. Where the spiders are is Ori‘s feelings of being at a very dark point, and feeling like he will fail. The Luma Pools or a visual representation of that feeling that you get when depression hasn’t fully kicked in and you still feel like there is a chance that you are going to get out of this easily. If you just try hard enough. Shriek is large and the point in the game where you encounter shriek for the first time, that is how many of us with depression feel where we are small, and everything that hurts us is so big and dark, and that we are surrounded by dark. And here is a little Ory this tiny cute thing versus this giant black monster. And then, of course, swear Coreys little sister is injured, it’s that feeling is someone in depression that you get when things are completely hopeless and you have no way to take care of anything in your life and you are literally watching parts of your life die around you . That is how Ori feels when his little sister is crushed.

a cosmic shake of thunder and fire,a sword of light aganst a talen of shadow,the sky shook,earth split as the spirit of light fights the dark shadowed raven. with a final blow,shriek is felled but ori is smacked backward,nearly is his light snuffed. shriek looked to seir
"seir...you know what must be done. we need....to...."
a shadow drops down,in similar form to ori,but instead of a spirit of dawn and light,it is a spirit of dusk and shadow. he looks at his mirrored form.
"hello....Ori."
seir looked at the shadow in surprise but recognition
"your a shadow guardian. the one called....Iro."
iro nods and picks the light spirit in help and looks to seir
"it isnt his time yet. please. i need time."
ori looked
"we...need...time...."
ori,fell unconcious,while shriek is felled,ori is exhausted....

A great example of how this game is about depression can easily be seen when little Ori goes into the deep underground, where the spiders are. While he’s in the deep underground, he hast to struggle to keep the light shining, and if he doesn’t, he starts hearing strange, creepy whispers as the darkness gets closer, and closer, until it completely encumbers him, and he is destroyed. Anyone who has suffered from depression, knows that feeling when you are desperately trying to keep the light awake in your life, and if you fail, you start hearing those voices that tell you that you are no good, and you get surrounded by darkness until the darkness becomes too strong. This whole game is littered from beginning to end with a little metaphors, just like that showing us that Ori and his journey are from beginning to end, the story of growing up and struggling against our own demons, and the rise of a new person, when we are triumphant against our demons. Just as a little Ory in the end, his little body dies, but he comes back once again as a new being, a new being who has been cleansed of the darkness that he carried with him from the fear of losing his little sister, and the struggles she had to face to cleanse the land and the sorrow he faced of losing people who sacrificed themselves for him. In the end, he was cleanse of all of that and reborn. Is someone new. Something we all are if we survive our demons. And those are only a few instances as the game is so full of them I will not for anybody by mentioning the rest.
