I am not even interested in the topic but cant stop watching. Magical combination: Richard and Marina.
Same for me, they talk about shows I would never watch and about people I don't care the very least for but I still listen to each and every episode.
I can't seem to get enough of Richard Osman...I've been following him from across the pond on 'House of Games' and 'Pointless' for years. I've just finished the last of his 'Thursday Murder Club' instalments and really looking forward to his new novel series. Now this gem of a podcast has appeared on my feed and suddenly 2024 is looking pretty damn good!
He's one of the contestants in season 2 of Taskmaster
man, this channel is exactly what i wanted but never realised.
Newly discovering this and I'm really enjoying seeing how the sausage gets made (so to speak) in the entertainment industry. The hosts have such lovely speaking voices as well.

I'm absolutely on board with Richard's love for Poker Face.
My mother lived in a care home for a little while and the local theatre (The Grand in Wolverhampton) regularly put on trips for older people from these homes. She absolutely loved it.
I find a certain charm to catching old 'Mock the Week' episodes.
Entertainment is such an interesting topic. I love/respect Richard & Marina, but I often can't raise any enthusiasm for some of the shows they rave about. I'll always make time for this podcast though. The insight and knowledge subtly on show is awesome.
I went to the Suchet panto in Bristol and it was FANTASTIC! I brought along my friends from Australia and Indonesia, by way of Hong Kong, and they were both enthralled and flummoxed in equal measure.
What an insightful podcast! Really interesting to hear how things are run. I also took the opportunity to pause after Richards recommendation to watch Rye Lane which was excellent. Now to go back and listen from start.
First time seeing this podcast and - as someone who once developed a wistful crush on Marina from her columns in the Guardian - delighted to spend a little while enjoying this conversation and the previews of new stuff to look forward to 2024! Love the wit and humour between Richard and Marina.
In Toronto, Canada we had pantomime for decades. Rpss Petty produced them and called them Family Musicals.
Such a shame I’m not playful: cannot abide game shows but listening in to these two vibrant conversationalists, compels me to have an interest. Very well done. Thanks
If you like Nathan For You, watch The Rehearsal that Nathan Fielder did after for HBO. The first episode is one of the funniest things I've seen on TV and uses the HBO budget perfectly.
I’m just fascinated at what puppeteer Marina has beef with (21:15)
I've Watched every minute of this show. Only to hear about slow horses. Which was only chatted about for10 seconds. Likely I'm loving it. But want more info about slow horses. An amazing show.
These two wonderful communicators look like they rolled out of seperate beds and put on the first set of garden clothes they tripped over. Huge brains with not a wasted syllable and dynamic non-sexual chemistries working between them. This is one show that won't get cancelled, repeatable and relatable. 🎉
As an American, I am honestly very surprised to hear that Jeopardy has never worked in Britain. Out of all of our game shows I always felt like it had the most British sensibility. I definitely think Fry is an excellent choice to host, and will hopefully make it work.
"Big American stars like... Hasselhoff"🤣 But seriously, one of the most charming things about Britain, is that with all the history and culture, there's is an inordinate amount of love and pride for all things corny, like Panto, Dr. Who, and the 007 films.
The Hoff had a second home in Worcestershire for a few years so he did a lot of things over here (the current Mrs Hoff is Welsh)and, presumably, there weren’t that many things he could get well paid for.
Just LOVE Marina.
Why is nothing real or valid until there is a 'celebrity' version of it? No offence to anyone who loves it but I cannot bear 'reality' 'tv'.
I can’t stand reality tv either and oh, I’ve just cancelled my satellite subscription. There is nothing but crap on tv.
To hear these two talk everything on tv is amazing , written by a genius, starring top quality talent. And then its reality tv.
I’m an expat living in Australia and had no idea an Australia Traitors was on. Not surprised it was cancelled. Aussies prefer DIY home makeovers, dating and LEGO building reality shows.
Wait! Logan dies in Succession 😮
Alot of information received tank you
The NZ version of traitors did the same thing as the US, and while it was good, I ended up so much more invested in the UK version.
Suede? I thought you said Slade, lol!
Love the podcast, but with the exception of UK Traitors wouldn't be caught dead in front of a TV with most of the other programmes mentioned here...
I don't think any human has found they're calling greater than Richard Osman, and he loves the Dukes of Hazzard. WOW! 'It's just the good old boys, never meaning no harm, defying the system like a true old modern-day Robin Hood!'
the 6 min 39 sec video 'Barbenheimer Pitch Meeting.'
Giant isn't even the tallest Gladiator. Bionic and Apollo are both 6'6".
“I don’t like to over-lubricate bearings”, proceeds to over-lubricate the bearings.
I think the problem with this sort of tutorial is that it’s more “how i lubricate my bearings”. A tutorial implies it’s something based on some sort of professional level knowledge.
"among us" the game as a TV show basically... how origonal 🤣
You realise social deduction games existed way before among us right?
I LOVE Rye lane
Not to disagree with Richard but mock the week is constantly repeated on Dave and there was a lot of talk around members of the Tory party being unhappy about being mocked
How could you talk about cancelled and returning shows, problems with the BBC funding, and not inform us on the status of House of Games?
Shame that A Question of Sport is disappearing, a combination of two of my favourites, sport and a good quiz.
I am OLOGO300 ❤
I've had to wait untoll 2024 boot funally a padcost is spoking aboot Arthur Bostrom.
I see what you did there 😊
Love Marina, my favourite slayer of dumb/smart people by far! 😅
Oppenheimer 2: Oppenharder
Don't put something in the thumbnail (Larry David) if you're only going to talk about it for one sentence.
Warning: Succession spoiler!!! It got me. 😭
We owe Marina Hyde our thanks, she has been writing about the injustice of the post office scandal regularly for ages. It seems our government find it appalling only now it’s been on the telly, which is pretty much how my mum and Dad find out how much they care about public issues and is fucking disgraceful.
How sad it is that a quarter century or so in, reality shows and all their attendant strategizing and betrayals, have now been given some kind of elite status in entertainment. Even with the gushing, 'Traitors', Aussie, UK, US, or otherwise sounds just as dreadful as all the others.
I thought that until I watched it.
It also just seems to be the "mafia" game from the board game that came out in the 1980s (which was presumably itself based on an existing game people played)
Hate traitors!
I wish it was Gladiator$ with hoards of scantily armoured men running at Russel Crowe from the Hypogeum.
Traitors and new gladiators. What has happened to this country 😭😭
Ranking isn't a man thing it's an everyone thing 🙄 don't be so precious
Watched a few of these and the lady seems just a touch snobbish. Talking about how something is a boys club in one episode and then says she was invited but turned it down because it’s not her humor, scared of saying something inappropriate. 😆
Great podcast. Haven’t seen Traitors, but
“ 12 ish non celebrities must backstab, scheme and form allegiances for the top prize”…….
Another no.10 doc, no thanks
a training school for sociopaths ?!!
Did Marina really say that naming your favourite TV show of the year is 'quite male'? The implication being that male = bad. Imagine Richard said that something equally as innocuous was 'quite female' and refused to take part in it.
No, she said the need to rank things is a quite male, and while it in general is a rather basic human thing (we tend to love hierachy and order), I can see that ranking and lists are seen as a male endeavour in the same way as more male enjoy sport or read comic books compared to females.
First episode first comment 🎉
Pantomime = middle class bollocks, cost of tickets for our local panto £80!!! try that on min. wage + 2 kids
