      I tkd and my kicks and those of my teammates make the building shake. I don't know where they get people from for these mixed fights, most of them are incompetent at least, none of them makes the "chi" (noise that is made when exhaling before performing a technique), and it is something very important that increases your power and speed. also no one takes advantage of the long range of tkd techniques nor does any feint or jumping technique.

    TKD is good to start with when you're a kid, because it helps with flexibility and self esteem and whatnot. However, Muay Thai is a real combat art with way more effective striking not requiring to spin your body and leave yourself completely open.

I'm 22 now and since then I've trained (both from instructors and independently) in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi Chaun, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, and Boxing.

    Been doing Muay Thai for a couple years now and did Taekwondo for 10. I admire that the Taekwondo fighter didn't back down even when he was losing. He got precisely one great kick to the Muay Thai fighter's head (naturally the fight was very one sided).
    To me that resilience coupled with some kickboxing training can take that fighter really far. He learned the most from all of us and he must be a better fighter now. All Martial Arts teach you something. Those kicks are not easy to pull off and my training in Taekwondo has helped me a lot even though I have much to learn.

      I agree with you on a technical standpoint of practicing styles. However I believe someone who knows how to use technique in a combat aesthetic can make those techniques very effective. Just Look at Yair Rodriguez of the UFC. A valid observation tho

    • @dantheman4838
      @dantheman4838 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think his resilience came from delusion. He actually thought his style was superior and wanted to prove it. You can see as the seconds pass by his slow realisation that he was running out of ideas while his opponent wasnt even operating at 40%.

      I started in tkd at age 6, and became a standout practitioner. I used to walk around with a false sense of confidence that I was a good fighter. Until, at age 19 I got demolished in a street fight by a boxer.
      I then transitioned to Muay Thai and throughout the years went from getting beat all the time at the gym to handing out the beatings. If you want to do a sport tkd is fine, if you want to learn how to fight Muay Thai is king.

    The Thai fighter is a legend by the name of Changpuek Kiatsongrit. He was known to take fights with opponents from other art forms. Today he is an instructor out of a Russian gym in Pattaya Thailand. I trained with him there. the other guy's name is Shin (I forget his last name) he was some sort of Japanese Tkd champion. He was significantly outmatched. The rules were a little weird to. No punches or contact to the head. The first time Chang puts him on the ground w the sweep, he grabs his head and thats why Shin complained. BTW this was in like 1992, martial arts have evolved since then, including Muay Thai. Both arts are noteworthy, but Muay Thai has evolved for the better, including more Western boxing. I can't say the same for TKD.

    heres an opinion from someone whos done a few martial arts (emphasise "opinion"). took me 6-8 years to get my black belt in itf tkd. Now while it thought me discipline and self defence, i never would have felt that i had a massive edge over a street fighter/thug. took a break from tkd and started bjj and mma. after 2 months of 4-6 trainings a week i felt like i could handle myself against any thug my size and as for my confidence against someone trained in tkd- i honestly think i could win 10/10 fights against a tkd of equal training, even a black belt in my weight category.(well maybe 8/10 againsta black belt, gotta account for a well timed kick on the takedown ,but thats being generous). started muay thai a few months back, and i have to say: it really takes stand up combat to the next level. these guys are tough, vicious and skilled. after my first training session i remember hobbling off the mats, shaking my head to myself thinking "holy shit, that ws fucking tough". now they both have their strengths, but if a beginner was wondering-tkd or mt, i would have to push him towards mt. honestly, id rather of spent the 6 years getting my blackbelt doing mt instead.and just to guage it for everyone, i remember competing in kickboxing tournament against a variety of martial arts with my tkd club and one time a muay thai club joined the competition(we wer about 14-16 yrs old) and what i remember most was the shock i felt the first time i was round housed in the leg. my jaw just dropped nad i thought "what the absolute fuck was that" as i flinched back. everyone at that comp shat themselves going up against the mt kids, its just a different level of combat guys what can i say.
    roughly 7 years itf tkd,
    1year bjj,
    4 months mma,
    2 months thai

    An an observer of many Muay Thai versus Tae Kwon Do videos, it seems to me that Muay Thai is a deadly fighting art while TKD is a beautiful sport with its impressive kicks. I find it difficult to see how TKD could be applied as a practical self defense system like Muay Thai. I can't be the only one who sees this. I suspect that many hardcore TKD practitioners agree that TKD is ineffective deep down inside.

    one thing also about tkd is that they don`t usually do much low kicks and are sometimes slow to retrieve their kicks which gives them disadvantages when landing high kicks because it`s easier for them to be outbalanced, also pure tkd doesn`t work much against other martial arts sometimes because the techniques they commonly are used mostly for tkd vs tkd

    having studied TKD for many years, even having the honor of taking classes from Master He Il Cho back in the 70s, and having all the brown belts, and done lots of full contact fighting (our school had a complete boxing ring) and every Thursday was full contact, I can assure you we were never taught any grappling techniques at all. I happened to have been a wrestler so I did OK close in, but as a real fighting art, TK is poor. It was fantastic for conditioning and leg and butt and stomach development. It has added years to my life and has helped me out of real jams. But I would not recommend it as the only fighting or martial art skill. On the mental side, we really were not involved with any meditation or other aspects that other martial arts have.

    I train western boxing and muay thai, and all I can say is that people who rant and compare aren't people who are training to fight, because they're all sports. Complaining about sport TKD, complaining about boxing, or anything else is comparing apples and oranges. If we're talking about unarmed self-defense training, all can be used. If we're talking about MMA to be a complete fighter, then your arguements are invalid, because MMA fighters incorporate everything they find effective - even some TKD kicks if they can use it to win in the ring.
    If we're talking about life/death saving self-defense, then go buy a shotgun. Use 00 buckshot, or buy an AR-15 if you live in the country.
    Your arguments are ridiculous. Go hit the gym.

Like youI boxed before I earned my black belt. I'm glad I did. A quick pair of hands canseal the deal when someone gets close after attempting a power kick. Everyadditional skill a fighter possesses can give him an edge. Train hard in whateverstyle you're in but keep an open mind. After all the martial arts didn't developby one guy copying another. Sometimes you have to dump tradition and makeyour own way. In the end it doesn't matter where it came from or what it's called.The only important question is: Does it work? BB

    • @2chin4u
      @2chin4u 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you to a certain extent. First as sports yes they should be respected and there is no point to obsessively rant. But as someone who came from TKD and moved to MT, there are legitimate criticisms of TKD. First it is important to note the Buddhist influences on Asian martial arts. From what I know about martial arts is that many eastern martial arts evolved from early Shaolin Kung Fu as the story goes. This is not true for all styles, but if one of their tenants is that fights can be one with technique and being relaxed. Now in martial arts like boxing this is true. However, many eastern martial arts masters look at boxing, wrestling and too a certain extent Jiu Jitsu and describe it has barbaric almost or that for one to be good they need to already be super athletic or super strong or something like that. Disregarding the fact that these traits are built through practicing the are and not a prerequisite.
      In TKD, kicks require flexibility, so as you train, you become more flexible, but as you get older, you lose that flexibility and it is no longer as effective as it once was. But even at one’s peak the kicks are not as powerful as those in other arts. In other words the returns are diminished. Now take boxing for example, to be good you have to drill a lot. You are constantly hitting pads and working on your footwork, you have to work on your slips and bobbing and weaving. It’s a lot of work, but over time you have become quicker, your muscles have grown and you can punch a lot harder without damaging your body too much.

Cada uno tiene su ventaja, Taekwondo: Muy veloz y se practican las patadas de manera avanzada. Muay thai: Pelea a gran velocidad, fuerza y practica todo el cuerpo sin dejar de lado las manos.

    TKD and Muay Thai are 2 very different martial arts. You have TKD which is very much based on a point system much like judo but instead of throwing it's striking. $ things: 1. A Muay Thai leg might be as durable as a pole of concrete (and I even doubt that), but no way is it as hard or heavy as a concrete pole. 2. The power of the kick is from the knee to the ankle. 3. If one is immovable as a wall, one will take the full power of the hit, but if one can absorb the impact, it wont be the same. 4. No matter how durable that leg is, hit the weak point with a strong part of the body. It will hurt him more than you. I did that with a man when he threw kicks at me, and while I didnt remember the hit, he couldnt use that leg for like a month.

      easy to predict so it need to set up some trap to use it like use hand
      to make oppnet use the gaurd then blind them with hand so the kick can

    Styles don’t matter. The user does. TKD has gone through sports teachings which have caused many practitioners not to be more well rounded in non-sports events. But back when TKD was established, it was hard core and no joke. What ever happen to classic TKD?

    Even the original taekwondo was simply Korean Shotokan karate, which itself is pretty bad with its point sparring system. But then the Koreans were like 'muh nationalism' and made it even worse somehow. Both modern versions suck. Olympic WTF is simply fencing with feet. ITF is a little better because you can punch the face,but you get penalised for heavy contact. Yeah, a striking art that penalises you for hitting hard.
    Muay Thai on the other hand, is no nonsense and practical.

    Feel so bad for these karate and tkd champs going up against muat thai champs. I can only imagine what goes through their minds, all their hard work and dedication to their discipline, using it against a muay thai practioner and realizing they can barely touch the muay thai guy. Almost looks as if the muay thai guys are using hacks lol

      Gustavo Marra He could not adapt his kicking because... TKD doesn't teach you that situation, that's all. TKD is basically karate with near to no guard and with ridiculous punching... MT is about top notch kickboxing all day long + clinch game + throwing game + efficient punching + knees + elbows... let's face it, the TKD guy has nothing that the MT guy is not ready for, while the MT guy has plenty stuff that the TKD guy is just not ready for.

    There's a couple of things that went wrong here:
    1. The taekwondo fighter took way too many risky kicks. For those that never fought in tournaments or professional fights, you never do this. It's stupid and even in taekwondo he would have gotten wrecked like that
    2. Pointless kicks. The good part of Muay Thai here is that when they kick it's with meaning. Light kicks work well on taekwondo tournaments where it's all point based, not well when you're trynna harm your opponent
    3. Lack of knowledge on Muay Thai. When you fight a different martial art it would be great to research it and figure out how to counter it. In THIS case kicks should be on counters where the tkd fighter waited for that slip up to get the knockout.
    4. Barely any feints, stance switching and unpredictability.
    Taekwondo can be devastating when used correctly. Watch MMA kick knockouts and there are quite a few that use taekwondo (Anderson Silva had that spinning kick one) but for it to be effective against other martial arts taekwondo fighters would have to train to hit harder. Most train to hit with just enough force to score a point. That muscle memory does not help, and it becomes apparent when your opponent holds your kick with his hands (try holding a powerful kick with your hands and watch it shatter)
    It's sad to see because it taints the sport when in reality it's used in the UFC and MMA, and has tons of potential

    What most people don't know is that taekwondo also had a boxing technique which was taken out due to safety hazards in the Olympics taekwondo nowadays is quite a soft sport for competition however if you dog in deeper to some of the more older techniques you can do quite some damage.

    • @Mei-ek3md
      @Mei-ek3md 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And Muay Thai Boran (the older-techniques version of Muay Thai) is even a lot more deadly than Muay Thai. It was actually used in a battle in the past. Now they cut all the dangerous weapons / techniques to fit in the competition rules (still dangerous though).

    Muay thai is also known as "the art of death" because in an actual muay thai match you have to try to kill your opponent to win. Their martial art is designed to be extremely lethal.
