Once you got on the water it was a nice relaxing video something I needed today this 70-year-old stayed up till 2:00 in the morning watching movies that's something I shouldn't do much rather watch fishing thanks John
I love Lake Cumberland. The smallmouth fishing is great there now. When I was a kid it seemed like it was more of a largemouth bass kind of deal. Now I catch way more smallies.
Love small creek fishing.im from southwest Ohio and we have some decent smallmouth fishing in are small streams.mostly smallmouth, largemouth, rock bass, white and hybrid striped bass.
That's some of the best fishing when the lake is starting to go down a lot of the fish start heading into the creeks where it's a little bit shallower. Just don't know what you'll catch in one of them holes in them creeks. Great video.
That's some beautiful water in lake cumberland. I am most definitely interested in planning a trip to explore those water. I never knew SoKY could produce such beautiful water.
I fished Pittman Creek and old Burnside Island growing up fishing was great there.Plus Kayaking and fishing near the docks caught me a slew of fish on Cumberland Lake.As well as fishing down off of Route 700 past Yahoo Falls on the South Fork was great fishing as well. There was a small boat launch down there specifically for Canoes and Kayaks.
If you ever are willing to go a little farther north in KY, try Elkhorn Creek. There’s a put-in at Stillwater Campgrounds in Frankfort, KY and the smallmouth up there are insane. Lots of good memories with my dad slaying smallmouth there.
What an amazing, HUGE fish in such shallow water! I'm surprised you didn't get out and wade around. And beautiful scenery, too. Thanks very much for these great videos.
One more comment here. That Drum that you released was a real cool segment of this video. I know you pretty much are a strict catch and release angler and I appreciate that very much. There used to be a time when I was younger that I would bring fish home to eat. As I grew older, I appreciated being able to release the fish for others to have the pleasure of catching. Seeing how low the water was and probably due to the fact that those drum's were in that shallow section looking for something easy to eat, made him an easy target. As you enjoyed catching, then showing off this Drum, you had the joy of being able to release a fish that has been successful in staying uncaught by predators, to have grown to a large size. As he majestically swam off after you helped him, it was way cool to know that the fish was enjoyed by someone that loves nature. John, this is one reason why I think your videos do so well and your following has grown to almost 100K members. It's the appreciate for God's handy work, HIS creation and the closeness that one can get to it that is the thrill. This was an outstanding video....G
Great video as usual. Drum was giving you a good tow. You need to do a video catching carp on bait. Bite is slower but they pull like crazy. Appreciate your time
Good video, John ! No big smallies, but lots of action. Relaxing trip. That was probably the biggest drum I've every seen ! Really like the logo on your t-shirt and cap ! Have a great day, Brother ! RKB
I wish i could go fishing with you sometime...closest spot i recently fished to you was the Mulberry in the Ozarks...loved the clarity of water... Im from deep east texas and all i did growing up was "creek-run" fishing and backwater exploring...i would carry a fish basket and short rod and catch large and smallmouth up and down them...lol...now i do what you do and i absolutely love your videos!... great POV.... keep up the exploration for those "honey holes", and your FAITH... you're a good man : )
Nice trip, I'll be there soon enough. Hoping to get a little creek hopping in besides cruising Fishing Creek in a pontoon boat with the family. Nice drum too brother. Loved it
Nice video. I have been catching spots and largemouth on the Coosa with Yum Dingers and Zoom trick worms whacky rigged. Watermelon seed, not so many on the watermelon/red flake. Last year the Watermelon/Red flake was the color.
If or when you get the chance, try fishing the Duck river just west of Nashville. Me and a friend waded almost all of middle Tennesse when we were teenagers and the Duck as well as the Harpeth river were great for Smallmouth, Spotted and Rock Bass. Don't know if you've ever used or heard of a float tube ( waders that have a floatation tube at the top to keep you afloat in deeper water) but they are also a great way to fish/ navigate streams of variable depth and current.
we fish kentucky a lot and this creek reminds me much of what we fish here. Do you ever use ROOSTER TAILS while creek fishing these clear waters. We do quite often and we tear up some small mouth on them! The last video we uploaded we used them and caught quite a few. We love your videos, Keep up the great content!!
No worries mate. The fishing is what counts. What always amazes me is the fact that the spots you fish are so beautiful, and you never see other fishermen out there. Do you call and reserve these spots for the day? Just kidding. This was a great video. Thank you Sir.
You should check out those water shoes that fit like toed socks? I’m can’t remember what brand they are but they’re like if Keens and Fila shoes had a baby lol. I never go fishing without my keens on, you never know what you could step on out there!
Lake cumberland got some big fish never know if your gonna catch an average size fish or a trophy fish. Lived in the area my whole life can be at any of my spots on the lake in 10 to 15 minutes from the house
I try to scope out John's set ups every video. I bet he only breaks out his best set ups for his kayak tournaments. Takes maybe his more expendable rigs on the road with him. Edit: guess I am wrong 12:17 that looks like an Abu Garcia Veritas.
Look like an awesome time man. You and your buddy had some fun together. In the video at 2:40 walking through the water over top of Rock barefooted 👣 I know that was brutal. I have to do the same thing too & It's brutal for me too. I have big very very extremely wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. I cannot find a shoes , sock , or boot that's wide enough to fit my foot so i have to kayak Barefooted 👣 because of that. I think if my toes was at a 45 degree angle like everybody else's toes and not straight across Footwear would be a lot easier to find and put on my feet. But I try not to let it stop me from fishing. That one fish was long & skinny man. But good video man thank you for sharing.
Dude....a Pizza? LMAO!!!! I was expecting some of that high class Pork Rinds in a bag with a Hot Mountain Dew!!! Hilarious...I was wondering when the food would be coming out.... Awesome video....You guys hit up a Mexican place on the way back home??? ;-)
If ya' get a chance try Kentucky Lake on the border with Tennessee. Maybe you've already been there but I heard fishing 🎣 license from either state is good there. It's been a while but I've heard record fish particularly Crappie have come out of that place John, good Luck 🎣.
@@christopherwood2290 my most recent video with Jon is from a couple of months ago and the title of his video i am in is Nashville smallmouth creek fishing
Love your channel.Just asking if anyone knows the place on hwy 59 lake eufaula Oklahoma. There is a culvert running from I think the eufaula city water supply to the big lake.During high water and the crappie spawn u can tie 2 or 3 jigs on and throw into the culvert and catch 30 nice crappie in 30minutes.I miss that catching 2 or 3 at a time.
About to hit the 100k sub club, congratulations! i remember the video that you stopped your day job and became full time tuber. remember to put back 10% in a retirement account.
Hey John! I love your channel and I’m wondering if you could tell me the name of this creek? I just got my first fishing kayak and I’m looking for a creek to use it in. Thanks
I wonder how good the fishing is on the beginning stretch of the Cumberland in Harlan County? I literally have never seen anyone floating it or fishing it between Harlan city and the Narrows at Pineville.
Great fishing... I've been taking my 5yr old daughter wade fishing o er the past couple of months and it's been great. Mostly small mouth and sun grannies, but ever so often we get large mouth and red eye...

When you kayak by yourself, how do you get back and forth to your car? Do you paddle back up stream? Would love to see your setup.
That's some beautiful water in lake cumberland. I am most definitely interested in planning a trip to explore those water. I never knew SoKY could produce such beautiful water.
You need to go about an hour south from here in Scottcounty and fish new river. It runs into Lake Cumberland.
OUCH, OUCH my feet are still hurting a hour later watching you walk the creek barefooted. You're one tough guy.
I just love your videos I never get bored
Can't wait to see this!
