We call those Dogfish up here in MN. One morning, years ago when I was a young man, the fish were not biting so I prayed to God that I would catch a ten lb fish. I was thinking Northern Pike or Walleye, but I didn't specify. It wasn't 20 seconds before I had a bite. I brought it in and sure enough, it was exactly ten pounds. And it was a dogfish. 😖 As I stood there all alone, I felt like I was being laughed at. God showed me that day that he is real and has a sense of humor. 🙂

@@michaelvoorhees5978 Yes I have. In the sense that I believe in Jesus Christ as my savior and have done my best to live according to his word, which can be difficult in this day and age. Sometimes it takes God talking to you on your level. That was almost 40 years when I was much younger. I was very much into fishing and that got my attention. I was also going through a very difficult time as well.

Here in Minnesota we destroy them because they're considered a nuisance that eat a ton of eggs from Walleyes and Northern Pikes.

I just recently discovered you two. What great videos!!! I am 70 years old and I've never experienced a fishing day such as this! That's true,we use to have alot of copperheads,but with all the black snakes we only see one every now and then. We red racer around here in MO. Black snakes love mouse,so we leave them alone. Also eggs.lol

Awesome guys, that looks like a whole lotta fun out there in the rain, Jay, those funny looking J hooks your using, we fish those hooks for Ocean Yellowtail and Tuna mostly live bait and chunk too. We have the best hook percentage when we let them run with it, drop the hammer and just whine down to them, we don't set the hook just whine. We call them Mutu Hooks from Owner. Gets em in the corner of the mouth every time. Just saying.
Wish I could get a few slimy high fives. The snake reminds me of when the family was camping and my 14-year-old daughter comes out of the woods with a 7 ft black snake to bring back to the campsite and play with for a few hours before she took it back to let it Go. I'm seeing this on Sunday, so Happy Mother's Day Jay!!

Awesome trip. Definitely looked like you were throwing hard for a circle hook. Just move slow and smooth into them? Even reel down on them. Or use the j hooks you mentioned and fire away. Tons of fun great work!

So Cole what good are the Bow Fish what do they do? Not good to eat so other than being a fun fighting fish that gets you slimy how do they help the investment? By the way I forgot to say nice 🐍. I've packed up a lot of snakes 🐍 growing up and even now and most of mine have been let's just say 🥴 By the grace of God I'm still alive I used to walk alongside the canals in Florida picking up cardboard boxes old junk stuff upset Road and lot of time to be something nice already there like Cottonmouth or a decent-size Diamondback Rattler ☠😱 I really think that there was an Angel watching over me ? I don't remember ever being sucked by any of them 🙃. Stay safe my friend and live for God and blessing will keep coming back to you 🙏

Grinnell / bowfin don't get enough attention IMO ...they fight like CRAZY with epic jumps an even the small 1s put up a BIG fight and they has LITTERALY taken over this 2 acre pond !
We were instructed to catch & remove ALL the fish or as many as possible possible out of this pond because it was slated to be drained ,dugout an restocked with bass & catfish !
We had NO IDEA what we had gotten ourselves into .....not only was it PACKED with bowfins but they were HUGE [at least as big as the 1s your showing here with some even larger] !
We fished an entire weekend catching over 100 the 1st day and nearly twice as many the 2nd day !
We took to a big creek nearby [that lead's to the Sulphur River] an released them into it !
When my Gran-ma got wind of us catching all this big bowfin's she insisted we bring her at least a few ALIVE so she could cook them up for our dinner even though I had attempted to cook & eat a few in the past an they were NOT good at all BUT as grand-ma's ALWAYS do she had a ''special'' way of preparing them an they turned out [the way she cooked them] to be absolutely delicious !
PS... the secret recipe/method was as follows ....keep the fish ALIVE an NEVER put it on ice .... fillet an cut into good size chunks/nuggets then take the fresh nuggets an put them in ice water with a cup of white vinegar to marinate for several hours in the fridge ....after the hours of marinating remove chunks from cold water ....egg dip an batter with seasoned corn flour then into a fryer with grease at 340 till the pieces float an if you have done this properly they taste AMAZING !
ALSO little known fact -- the ''roe'' or eggs of bowfin is used to make caviar [which I have never tried] an fetch's about 20 bucks for a tin the size of a snuff can !

This was a cool trip! I've never caught a bowfin, which is crazy we have'em around here and I've fished for catfish with shad my whole life. Have you ever eaten one?
