      @@remigal899 its the idiotic assumption that such a thing happens.
      In the 1950's there was an experiment to see whether gender expression was nature or nurture. The guy, joseph money, capitalized on the botched circumcision of one of a pair of twins, and convinced the parents to raise the child as a girl.
      Despite being raised as a girl, having everyone in his life confirming that fact, the child always felt he was a boy and changed his name to David(in addition to suffering the symptoms of gender dysphoria).
      So if you cant brainwash a child from birth, with the support of everyone in their lives, into beliving they are a different gender, how is letting children know that it is a phenomenon that exists(which is more "moral panic fear mongering" than something that happens) do it when everyone in their lives reaffirms their assumed gender?
      If a child is comfortable in their identity no amount of knowing trans people exist or playing dress up will change that. The only people it would affect would be those who are uncomfortable with the identity handed to them, and at that point youre just saving them from having to go through years of David's pain.

    This all makes a lot of sense and is really helpful. My only issue is that, when you slow the video down, it appears as though you strike with your heel first regardless of whether you are over striding or not. More generally, I’ve noticed a number of gait coaches suggesting walking with forefoot strike only to strike with their heel in demonstration. I’m wondering if I’m missing someone or if it’s as I suspect- low velocity walking simply involves heel strike for most people

    • @thebarefootsprinter
      @thebarefootsprinter  ปีที่แล้ว +95

      Low velocity walking does involve heel striking. One foot is always on the ground. Most people are slamming their heels, not staying light in the feet preparing to transition to the forefoot if you start moving faster than walking.

      That's scary to me that someone claiming to be a walking coach can't even observe the simple fact that you can't avoid heel striking when walking normally and states "never heel strike when you walk". You don't need to have a qualification to know how absurd that is. You only need to try walking toe first for five seconds, realise you're walking like some weird bird, and then accept that it's heel first in most normal walking settings lol.

    When I was a massage therapist, a lot of guys came in with big bunions on the inside of their big toes. When I asked them to walk for me, their feet were way turned out and they were pushing off from the inside of their foot, also wearing down their shoes at that point. It was mostly office workers, and I think the dress shoes they have to wear don’t flex easily, so they turn their feet to the side to push off.

    I spent a solid 3 years barefoot a while back. During that time, I developed a couple of new gaits for walking and running on the balls of my feet with my legs positioned similar to a dog's hindquarters. Start flat footed, raise heels and pop knees forward over toes at the same time so your hips stay at same height. Lift knee to stride so sympathetic nervous system does the pushing. Vary heel height for different terrain/speed. For running thrust knee forward and 'punch' ground with ball of other foot simultaneously. To run really fast and for running downhill really fast, basically skip, left-right bound right-left bound left-right bound . . . catch with first foot to land and punch off with second as you thrust opposite knee up and forward. Once your skin has thickened up a bit find yourself a steep road to run down, you'll be amazed at how fast you can go and just how far you can bound.
    Happy feet!

    As a former runway model - whenever I'm in pain while walking (whether in heels or flats) i always turn back to my runway walk. Its super tiring as I flex most my muscles (thats how you get that clean look) but boy does it help for the pain

    Mate, I'm down here in straya. Big fat man. 145kg. 320lb for you. Flat feet and sedentary since I could remember. Anterior pelvic tilt the physio tells me. Back pain, neck pain, emotional damage and at least 4000 hours on skyrim. I'm at the point where I did 5 sets of 10 lat pull downs at 30kg, pulled my neck rolling out of bed the next day.
    I've been researching and found out my problems start with my feet and work upwards. So I've been wearing barefoots, being mindful not to overpronate my ankles, balance work, squats, planks, leg extensions/presses, Treadmill, etc.
    I was really unsure of myself. Thought I might be oversupinating because I was landing on the 4th and 5th metatarsals, rolling over to the toes and using them to spring off the ground.
    But I saw your video on how to run the other day and now I feel like I might be having a win. You said something like "have patience and you can reclaim your body". That really inspired me. Feels like every time I open up my phone you're there giving me just the right info at the right time.
    So I guess I just really want to thank ya bloke. Thanks for showing me how to get out of the body I'm trapped in.

    Think about something pushing your spine forward, or walking spine first. Like if someone was shoving you as your slowly gaining speed but your kind of resisting. It will really help you find your stride.
