Regarding the running out of fuel being illegal this is what the German traffic fine catalogue says about it:
"If a car is on the motorway without petrol and the driver is forced to stop due to a lack of petrol, this can be expensive in Germany. Stopping on the motorway and also on a motor road can be punished with a fine of 35 euros. Stopping for more than three minutes is considered parking. And parking on motor roads and motorways is punishable by a fine of 70 euros.
This is not the case if a driver breaks down with his vehicle. But a lack of fuel is considered avoidable and is therefore not considered a breakdown. Breaking down due to lack of fuel will therefore result in a penalty.
For the fact that the tank is empty, the penalty can also be different. If an accident occurs due to the vehicle breaking down due to a lack of fuel, the driver can also be prosecuted for gross negligence."

    • @maireweber
      @maireweber 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Exactly. It is reckless to get on the Autobahn without enough fuel, could easily cause a crash. The car is "not road-worthy" for the task at hand and it is a sort of "reckless driving", so it logically follows that it is punished accordingly.

The fact that the Tsar (Russia), William II (Germany) and King George V were cousins is due to the fact that Queen Victoria had married her daughters to their fathers and George V was the grandson.
Queen Victoria is therefore often referred to as the "Grandmother of Europe", as she married all but one of her daughters to monarchs.
Even Elizabeth ll and Prince Philip are indirectly related - Alice of Battenberg (his mother) is the granddaughter of her daughter Alice.
Her husband was German, by the way. Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. 🙃

The video you watched is about 8 years old. Back then the GEMA (Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights) had no agreement with youtube and other online platforms. If you want to publicly play music in Germany, you will have to pay royalties to the GEMA, which will then distribute it to the musicians. Due to this, youtube took the easy way and blocked all music videos and videos featuring licensed music in Germany. You could obviously circumvent this with a VPN, but these days the GEMA has reached an agreement with youtube and we can enjoy music on youtube.

    Germany has 84.3 million inhabitants
    UK 67.3 million inhabitants
Experts like to argue about how to compare the sizes of cities. Greater London (9 million inhabitants) is smaller than Greater Paris (12.5 million inhabitants), and Greater Berlin (6.2 million inhabitants) is smaller than London.
But the cities are divided differently:
Paris - the core city has 2 million inhabitants and Berlin the core city has 3.7 million inhabitants. London was enlarged many times and independent towns were added to the core city. Paris didn't do what London did and is therefore "smaller" than London or Berlin (but not 9 times smaller).

    • @ArlosPA
      @ArlosPA 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well I wouldn't compare the size of cities with the number of inhabitants but area instead. Which fits the 9x actually kind of. Cause the core city of Paris is nearly 9x smaller than Berlin's. In the Urban and Metro areas the difference is less.

Immunity to HIV is not 100% immunity. In Western Europe, there is a genetic defect that affects one of the receptors on the cell that most HIV variants need to enter the cell. This genetic defect occurs in approximately 10-15 percent of Western Europe. In Germany, around 1 percent of the population has inherited this genetic defect from both parents. So, the statement is in the video. However, other HIV variants use different receptors to enter the cell. The genetic defect does not help with these.
But overall, I love your reactions and love your effort to learn so much about my country! Lovely greetings from a small city near Dortmund :)

Hi Dwayne, nice to see your videos about Germany in a british perspective. Iam German and interested in history (okay, normally medieval history of England/Scotland, Holy Roman Empire ).
Queen Victorias Title was also Princess of House Hannover (Welfen) and Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg. Her husband was a German Albert of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha. Her son King Edward VII. was king during WWI and in these times the king renamend the house to Windsor in 1917. The same was with the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the name of his house was also German dominated, House Battenberg in Germany was renamed in Britain to Mountbatten was nearly at the same time as the renaming of Windsor. In the linage of House Windsor, the first person that could be called english ist Prince Georg of Wales. It was already known in Lower-Saxony (Niedersachsen) from time to time members of the house Windsor were in private visit to their "international family" in Hannover.

He said something what is now §2 in our "Grundgesetz" (Constitution) it is: "Die Freiheit der Person ist unverletzlich" or "The freedom of a person is undeniable". BUT, if you destroy something, on your way out, or if you steal something from the Prison(Clothes..etc) on your way out, you will get punished for that crimes. So there is almost no way, to get out of Prison, without punishment

  • @deniskramer3562

Presumably, the whole thing about breaking out of prison was simply misunderstood. It means that he does not receive any additional punishment for the escape, except for the new crimes committed with the escape, e.g. threatening or even injuring guards or damaging property in order to escape.
The only issue is that he does not receive any additional punishment for the escape itself. And the sentence for which he was sent to prison is not erased by the escape. So if he is caught after the escape, he will still have to complete the punishment.

-You still are punished for damage made during the jailbreak, and when they catch you again you wont be taken into special prison programs anymore, like work programs that give you the opportunity to earn money during prison time.
-It is easy to identify a car without gas, it stands still and does not start anymore, a cop can tell you to turn the key and you can see stuff like a blinking gas reserve light and the tank indicator won't move.
-Yeah the Coca Cola syrup was on the embargo list, and the chemists at the german coca cola branch had to come up with something new so they took stuff that still was available and made Fanta, btw. the Fanta you drink today is not the same receipt as the "Nazi Fanta".
-The punishment for the "nazi salute" is excluded from artistic stuff, so when you play a role in a theater/movie/reenactment you wont be punished, but when you do that in public on a neo nazi demo you might end up in prison.

Why does they always think that breaking out of jail will delete the left over sentence for the crime he does before.
You got 10 years sentence, still 8 years left and then you break out of jail.
They catch you and you will then do the left 8 Years but didn't get extra 5 Years for the CRIME OF BREAK OUT OF PRISON - Because this is not a Crime in Germany or Austria (As I remember correct).

This old video is not only a bit old, it has also some things a little bit wrong.
ad 2) Berlin has a bigger area within city limits, but a smaller population than Paris. Within the city limits you can find also some lakes (big enough for sailing boats and small ships) and woods (big enough for military training areas and wildfires). It shares the claim of having more bridges than Venice with many other cities (Hamburg has 2,472 bridges, Vienna 1,700, Amsterdam 1,281, Berlin 960, Duisburg 650, Venice 450).
ad 3) If you break out of jail, police will try to catch you to serve the rest of your sentence. If you broke nothing and hurt nobody while breaking out however you'll not get an additional sentence, only maybe lose some privileges.
ad 5) WW I, not WW II. I could not find the source for the numbers he mentioned. After WW II it was about 160 women to 100 men (of whose some came back from Soviet war captivity only in the 1950s and many were traumatized and war-disabled).
ad 6) It is a traffic offence because it causes an avoidable traffic hazard.
ad 7) It was not only the scarcity of children, but also of money - it was a misdirected attempt to save public money. It was also partly a consequence of the reunification in 1989 - many of the closed down schools were in the East, since a lot of young families migrated to the West, where the jobs were. Multiple state governments (West and East) also cut down the number of study places for teachers, and now we have a massive scarcity of teachers and far too big classes.
ad 8) That was never really true. If you add FRG and GDR, there was a first decline between 1979 and 1987 (mainly due to low birth rates and a shrinking population in the GDR), followed by an continuous, but slow increase 1986-2002, then a stagnation and a slow decrease 2005-2011 (which was partly caused by statistical errors which were corrected by a micro census in 2011/2012), followed by a strong growth over the last decade. Currently Germany has about 84.4 million people (which includes however about 1 million refugees from Ukraine).
ad 9) Such fees for public universities are set by the states, not the federal governments; therefore the dates differ from state to state. And some states have still (small) tuition fees for second degrees or (in case of Baden-Württemberg) people from non-EU countries (depending on the country there can be exemptions). There are also administration fees (up to around 400 Euros per semester), which however include in most cases free use of regional public transport and member fees for student's organizations.
ad 10) Outdated, referring to a copyright dispute which is long time solved.
ad 13) The Fanta produced in Nazi Germany was made from apple peels and other things otherwise going to waste by Coca-Cola Germany. The orange-y drink now sold as Fanta was invented in the 1950s in Italy.
ad 14) Queen Victoria's eldest daughter married the Crown Prince of Prussia; her son Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, married Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, aunt of tsar Nicholas II (whose uncles included King Frederick of Denmark and King George of Greece; another aunt was Queen Alexandra, born Princess of Denmark and wife of King Edward VII).
ad 16) It depends always on the circumstances - but there is no joking about it.
ad 17) about European average. Spanish and Italian women are some years older at their first child (in average).
ad 18) also outdated - Germany is now struggling for 50%. And solar generated electricity has the lowest production costs per kilowatt now.
ad 19) The lowest birth rates back in 2018 had Taiwan and South Korea, followed by Germany, Hong Kong and Portugal. In 2021 and 2022 South Korea, Japan, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, Greece, ... and about a dozen other countries had lower birth rates than Germany.
ad 20) That has nothing to do with Germany. About 1% of all Europeans (and Americans with European heritage) has a genetic defect which makes them immune against HIV, but more prone to other diseases.
ad 24) He got that totally wrong. It was attempted arson, which was illegal, not lighting a condom. Paul McCartney told the story once - you can find it for example at www.beatlesbible.com/1960/11/29/paul-mccartney-pete-best-arrested-hamburg/

The lack of men was after WWI, not WWII (although there certainly was another drop then). After over a century, that's no longer a thing. One reason to close schools was that there has to be a minimum number of students in small towns or villages to keep the school open. As for our population here declining, it's due to people having less children. The decline slightly started in the 1960s when the pill became a thing and has become more pronounced with more and more people not trusting the future.
As for blocked TH-cam videos: that's down to the use of music and the German GEMA which could demand fees for music being played in them. To avoid that, videos with music that might be flagged for a fee are blocked.
EDIT: About the first cousins: The wives of both the German Emperor and the Russian Czar were daughters of Queen Victoria, which means their husbands were related to the English Royal house via their wives. Apparently, the German Emperor was actually Victoria's favourite son-in-law.

    It is a safety reason
If you don't keep an eye on your vehicle's fuel gauge or overestimate how much fuel you have left, your journey may suddenly come to an end - in the worst case scenario on the highway. And that can be expensive.
According to Section 23 of the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), drivers are legally obliged to have enough fuel on board for the journey. If the breakdown is deliberately accepted, it can be considered gross negligence. This can result in a fine - especially if it leads to a rear-end collision.
If you break down due to a lack of fuel, the vehicle is parked on the Side strip and then the site of the breakdown is secured with a warning triangle. A breakdown service or automobile club should then be called immediately.
An empty tank can cause damage
A tank that has been emptied to the last drop can also cause damage to the injection and fuel pump. Background: After refueling, it may be necessary to make several attempts to start the engine, as the fuel system has to bleed itself. As a result, the injection and fuel pump are no longer cooled and lubricated by the fuel, which significantly reduces their service life. There may even be a risk of total failure on site.

The Problem with only renewable Energy ist, that it is difficult to react to changes in demand. They Produce Energy when they can and not when it is needed. If we had a efficient way to store energy that problem would be solved. So you need normal Power Plants to react to the demand of the energy Net. Sometimes, when renewable powerplant generate to much Energy and can not be shut down quick enough, the Energy needs to be sold to our Neigbours. In some instances we even have to pay them to take the Energy.

In Germany most times you can not choose on which school you want to go or your kids. In most cases, children must attend the school responsible for their district. In most federal states, you cannot freely choose your further school career, i.e. Hauptschule, Realschule or Gynasium. It depends solely on the grades in the 4th grade.
Fewer and fewer children are being born in Germany, but there are many more old people who die every year.

Yes it is illegal to run out of gas, at least on the Autobahn. You aren't allowed to yield/ "park" on the Autobahn though, except if you are involved in an accident or your car breaks down all of a sudden.
That's why there are gas stations every 50km on both sides of the Autobahn. And of course they're a lot more expensive than other gas stations apart from the highways.
Also, you don't need to "check" how much fuel is in your tank, because literally every car has got a fuel gauge and newer cars will also show you how many kilometres/ miles you can still go with the remaining fuel and when it's time for refueling.
Regarding the low birth rate in Germany: For many young people/ especially women nowadays it's "career first", and then they're just too old to get children. Or they just don't want to have children.
I personally just became a mother last year at age of 23 and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
And yes, I'm afraid of what that whole LGBTQI discussion, transgenderism etc. will lead us to in the future. It seems like German society is constantly bashing on women as transgenders are now officially allowed into womens' restrooms etc. There is even a book for kids called "Papi, hast du ein Baby im Bauch?" (literally "Daddy, do you carry a baby in your womb?") which suggests to children that males could also carry babys and give birth, which is not just surreal, but in fact frighteningly awkward!

Interesting that you mentioned leaving history in the past on the Hugo Boss point. So in general, past is past, yes, but it is still important to know which part, for example, still-existing companies played back then. Not to put blame on them nowadays but to process the past in the common interest. Even more so, it is kind of a big deal in Germany to question how far those companies have actually changed, if they deal with their past and how. Unfortunately, there is still a number of bigger cases where the company leaders and heirs rather like to put a big cloak of silence over everything and not speak about anything regarding that era, pretending it doesn't exist as a part of the company's history - and thus in a way denying their companies' and predecessors' (potential) involvement in the whole Nazi apparatus.

If you run out of petrol on the motorway, you'll get a €70 fine if the police catch you.
If the police see you on the hard shoulder of the motorway, they will stop to see what's going on. They will also take a look at your car's fuel gauge. And if they notice that you have run out of petrol, you will get a ticket.
You are obliged to have enough petrol in your tank when you drive on the motorway. In addition, there are plenty of exits and motorway filling stations, so there is no reason to get stuck on the motorway with an empty tank.
The reason why this is punishable is that a vehicle on the hard shoulder is always a source of danger. In contrast to a flat tyre or engine failure, an empty tank is a very easily avoidable cause that the driver of a vehicle always has an influence on preventing.

To compare the size of Berlin and Paris the way they do it is somewhat dodgy, in my opinion. Although technically correct - the city of Paris is around 100 sqkm and Berlin around 850sqkm - it comes with some significant caveats. For example: the administrative boundaries of the city of Paris haven't changed since 1860. It is basically the last existing 'citywall' that was build in Paris, whereas Berlin's city boundaries have constantly changed during that time, becoming larger and larger with every municipality that Berlin incorporated under its administrative umbrella, up to today with Berlin actually being a federal state. (I generously step over everything that happened between 1945 and 1990, because it's too complicated).
Today the city/federal state has a size of around 850 sqkm. Paris on the other hand is vastly different from an administrative perspective, but to keep it as simple as possible: the actual city of Paris is indeed only around 100sqkm, but there are of course dozens and dozens of municipalities that are so closely associated with the 'core-city' of Paris, that it is virtually impossible to draw a clear distinction between them. It is generally accepted, that the core metropolitan area of Paris is around 800 sqkm, therefore being only slightly smaller than Berlin. When looking at the population however, Paris is much larger. The city of Paris has around 2.3 million inhabitants (Berlin 3.6), and the Metropolitan area of Paris around 12 million (Berlin around 5).
So to claim that Berlin is 9 times larger than Paris - although being de facto correct - gives a bit of a wrong impression, if you ask me. It either makes Paris look a lot smaller than it actually is, or Berlin a lot larger than it actually is, depending on the perspective.
    A wee dodgy, wouldn't you agree?😂🍻

Just the term "breaking out" seems to inherent some violent behavior. And you will get extra time for any violent behavior or property damage you commit while trying to escape. But if you just manage to sneak out ? No harm, no foul . The Police will surely try to catch you and bring you back to serve the rest of your sentence. But there will be no extra sentence for trying to become free again.

Look, the authorities will go into overdrive to catch you and to get you back into jail, of course. You haven't fully served the sentence that was legally given to you by a court of law, after all. And you can, and most probably will be indicted for every criminal offence that you committed to actually break out of jail ( i.e. damage to property, assault, fraud etc.), but the instinctive act of trying to regain freedom as such simply can't be a statutory offence according to article 1 of the German constitution.

The actual act of breaking out of jail isn't punishable in Germany. However any accompanying crimes such as theft, property damage, etc can and will be added to the sentence. In addition any leniency and bonuses for an inmate for good behavior can and will be reduced if they successfully perform a breakout and are recaptured. Obviously the inmate will still have to serve the remainder of their sentence. Again, any consideration of shortening their term for good behavior will be cut after any jailbreak attempts.
The mention of 1/3 of women not finding a husband was after World War ONE, not two.
Nope, the average men to women is roughly 49% to 51% the world over in most populations. A few outliers exist, agreed, but the mean of countries has roughly this ratio. It has little to nothing to do with the wars.
Running out fuel due to simply failing to refuel is the part where it is illegal. The number of petrol stations directly on the Autobahn as well as along the towns along the Autobahn are incredibly dense. You normally can reach a petrol station without ANY problems once your warning light for low petrol lights up. As such the German law says that you are obviously negligent in your care for others, as a car running out of petrol can suddenly find a lot of its assistant systems like ABS, airbags, etc failing instantly. This creates a hazard for yourself and others. In addition, remember that Germany has long stretches of the Autobahn without speed limits, meaning that a car suddenly running out of fuel at high speeds would start to slow down quickly, and often uncontrollably. That is another hazard. All of these combined make running out of fuel illegal. However that does not mean that your car isn't allowed to break down for other reasons. If by very bad luck you have a leaky fuel pipe, ditto for a petrol tank, that counts as an unavoidable accident or malfunction you couldn't know about beforehand.
Declining population: yes, Germany has had quite low birth rates, too low actually to sustain the general population. That's why we NEED, desperately need immigration to sustain our societal model where the young support the pensions and healthcare payments for the old and infirm by their taxes and social contributions. That's what the xenophobes don't understand.
BTW: the video may have been correct for the decade 2010-2019 but since 2020 Germany has grown slightly and just at the end of 2023 reached 84 million population.
The TH-cam block has already been lifted several years ago as the GEMA and Meta/Google/TH-cam came to an agreement. The GEMA is a council that arranges for the payment of license fees for publicly released artists' works to said artists. They charge a general fee to any company that releases such works to the public and distribute it to the relevant artists according to their market shares. As TH-cam didn't want to pay said fees they simply blocked a lot of TH-camrs from being watched in Germany. However since more than eight years now that has been a thing of the past, so you can see how dated this video was.
Fanta was a development by the German Coca Cola company in WW2 as they couldn't recieve the Coke syrup from the USA due to the general embargo on Germany. Obviously the recipe for Coke is still among the best guarded company secrets around the globe, and wouldn't be released during WW2 either. So the managers of the German Coca Cola company sat down and discussed what they should do with the other ingredients they still had available. Voila, Fanta was born. It was however NOTHING like the Fanta we know today. It contained milk serum (basically cleared whey) and several other components. Only after the war did the Coca Cola company aquire the recipe for Fanta, and changed it considerably to basically what we know today as Fanta.
Hamburg easily beat Berlin to the multi-confessional building. The Ark in Wilhelmsburg, Hamburg was finished long before the project in Berlin even took off. Since then this building houses prayer and discussion rooms for the three major mono-theistic religions.
Parodies about Nazis should be clearly delineated as such. While Germans DO have a sense of humor, it stops pretty much at Nazi humor.
Making fun OF Nazis is ok, making fun WITH Nazis isn't. Subtle but important distinction for Germans today.
We don't think using the Nazi salute is a particularly suitable joke as the subject matter is just too dark.
But never, ever make a Nazi salute in Germany where it isn't absolutely crystal clear that it is poking fun AT Nazis. Obviously don't make such a tasteless joke at ANY memorial to the victims of the Nazis. That can lead to very dark looks at the perpetrator at best, and a swift, unreported beating by the bystanders at worst.
The renewable energy ratio has risen to well over 50% by now. Depending on weather (especially wind) Germany has reached 100% on some days during winter in the last five years.
Yepp, many companies during the years 1933-1945 collaborated with the Nazis, either unwillingly or actively supportive. Boss saw it as a chance to recover his recently bankrupted company after the stock market crash of 1929. Boss became a member of the NSDAP in 1931, two years before the power grab of 1933. However Boss wasn't the ONLY company producing uniforms for the Nazis; he was one among many. Since 1938 uniforms were in great demand due to the war preparation efforts as well as the general conscription laws being reintroduced. Boss however was NOT the designer of the Nazi uniforms, simply one of many manufacturers. The actual designer of the SS uniforms was the artist Karl Diebisch. Others were designers for other uniform styles. So that was simply a social media myth regurgitated over and over until it became an 'alternative fact'.
The supposed German inventions all rest upon the shoulders of many intellectual giants from all over the world. NONE of these inventions would have been possible without the giants coming before them. None of these inventions happened in a vaccuum. Credit where credit is due. For the TV that could also go to a Scotsman. Programmable calculator depends on how you define programmable, in which case that could go to the Turks from the 17th century as well. That's why it is so difficult to pinpoint ONE exact datum in history for the creation of something for the very first time.

When it comes to bridges, it's actually Hamburg that has most of them. Berlin's in there because it's the capital. The lack of children concerns almost every western country. The rise in childbirths started with the "open border policy". Not going into detail, else this comment might get deleted by TH-cam! The ratio between men vs. women is also due to statistical life span. Women tend to live longer than men.

I'll happily go into 'detail': immigrants have more children on average, and it causes right-wingers all kinds of apocalyptic fantasies, from "we're being replaced" to "mentioning the difference in birthrates gets you silenced and persecuted".
The effect is reduced over time though - the descendants of the Gastarbeiter from the 60s and 70s have about as many kids as anyone else and Germans have not been replaced yet.

In terms of population Berlin is the biggest city in the EU. In terms of size it's the 3rd biggest behind Rome and Zaragoza. But it always depends on what your definition of "the city" actually is and in a bigger European picture Berlin is #5 behind Istanbul, Moscow, London and St. Petersburg. But again it depends a lot on what you claim "the city" is. Because by some definition Paris could be bigger than Berlin and London. The bridges is most certainly true but I wouldn't know why that is surprising. Venice is less than half the size of Berlin. Both Hamburg and Amsterdam also have substantially more bridges than Venice. For the same reason.

I wouldn't assume that the shortage of children is the sole reason; it is probably more unprofitable to run a school with 200 students than one with 500 children. As a result, many village schools and smaller schools in cities were closed. Similarly in the kindergarten area, you would rather run a large one with 100 children than one with 30 children!
Which, as a mother, I find inappropriate, as there are many children who get along much better in smaller schools or kindergartens!
