I’m so grateful for your videos I learn so much from them but the most important and helpful thing I learnt from you is “to put my big girl’s pants on” when I’m afraid or anxious about doing something, I can’t thank you enough for the courage and strength I learnt from you and I think you are so beautiful, thank you 🙏💕
I have a love-hate relationship with auctions, too! So much waiting around, and then things get bid up higher than I would normally want to pay but I bid because of the competition. And then there is the buyer's premium. We have some auction houses around here that have started doing online auctions, but the bidding just goes up too high for any profit left for resellers. Good for the auction house and the person whose items are being auctions, not so much for resellers.
No no no - I think it’s only $12 an item (20 @ $240)! You did a great job! This looks like a fun option to break up the monotony. I’m enjoying your channel...
In England our charity shops now have a manager that’s genned up on the goodies and look them up on EBay, where the volunteers who sell behind the counter are older and didn’t know about them, it’s different now
Loved this video so interesting listening to you I love the Amish units in your kitchen I am all for keeping the look of the house as was. I live in a 50's house in Scotland and I love it. x
My grandmother had that exact stagecoach lamp clock. My grandmothers guys arm would go up and down on the horse, the whip thing something to do with the clock timing. We'd stare at it as kids.
Something else you might not know about auctions is if you want to leave a lot of auctions will take an absentee bid. You tell them your maximum amount that you're willing to pay for an item and when it comes up they will include that in the bidding. And that doesn't mean that they'll start with the amount that you've said you're willing to bid. They will notify you if you're the winning bidder!
Re: competition at auctions - if I’m understanding some modern auctions, you can also be bidding against folks via online who are sending in bids. I realize that’s larger or more expensive estates but it could be an element.
Hi Karen, I hope you see this comment. I am trying to catch up on your videos and I know this one is older. I loved seeing your kitchen and that you share a little about your life. I wish I were Stephanie and with you at the auction! I am basically a shut in now due to osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. Also the pandemic has curtailed my ability to go to thrifting. I am not a seller, I am a buyer for my own use. I just wanted to tell you how much your videos lift my spirits. Thank you so much! Deb
As we are in lockdown the local auction houses have gone online. Yes some prices have gone up, but then again it is more convenient to bid from home and, for those willing to take a chance on mixed boxes etc, you can get some gems very cheaply as no-one has been allowed to inspect prior to auction. So I am thankful we can still take some chances and bid, even when stuck at home! Love your finds, great to understand prices in the US compared to Australia.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!💕 To me, the best auctions are farm auctions on rainy days. Often bidders show up to see what's being sold but don't want to wait around in the rain to bid!👍
I loved your video ,as always such a sweetie ,thanks for sharing the tour of your kitchen ,nice shelves good job installing them ,didn't need a level or an ex .your experience at auction was nice to share with others cause I've learned it's not like going to a store ,when you bid put your number up in a flash then put it down and remain having eye contact with the auctioneer until the bid is done or your done bidding ,I go to one near my home and have learned a lot about people and the stuff they collect ,nice to see you
I enjoyed this vlog, thanks for sharing. I used to spend every Friday night at a little weekly farm auction and I loved it! So much of my furniture and favorite items came from there (dining room table, vanity, trunk, lamp, vintage housekeeping toy). Everything was super cheap because I was one of the only end consumer there, mostly it was resellers that needed room to make a profit. My mom and I had a joke that if something sold for $22 than I would win it because so many of the things I purchased had that final value. The auction house closed many years ago and I miss it so. The larger auction houses in my area don't sell the type of things that I prefer. I love the Ezekiel bread as well!
I would suggest going to estate auctions. Yes you are still waiting and bidding but they will do box lots toward the end where you can get lots of items in one bid. Also less people. Of course they are weather sensitive because most are held outside. Estate sales may be worth taking a look at too.
Try fitting some crochet hooks in the beautiful box. You are my favorite go to of all the sites. I'm 78 and wish I could do it all over again. First go around was wonderful. Don't wait to do what you want to do UNTIL. When you have time and more money you may not have the ability. Body gives you fits when you are older. Keep up the great job.
LOL my parents took me to a few auctions when I was little and I was terrified to itch my nose for fear of bidding. Little did I realize as an 8 or 9 year old that the auctioneer wouldn’t be looking to a child for bids.
@@karenmcneill2602 LOL One time I scratched my ear or something and I swore the auctioneer was looking right at ME questioning a bid. I was mortified! It was the lady behind me. That was the incident that made me sit with my hands folded, clamped in my lap, until we stood up to leave.
@@Narbyful oh that is so funny! Great story but I do feel for you as little girl! I would have been terrified too. I used to go to fruit and vegie Auctions with my Dad when I was 7 and under. I find sometimes when you go to auctions certain ones that the people that are bidding they have a lot more money too so the sales may go up further too
I used to go 20+ years ago for fun. I found the biggest downside was buying a box full of items that you only want one thing out of. A lot got donated, but it made the single item cost much too high. They're definitely entertaining!
Love auctions but at one that size you really have to stick to the stuff you know - for me it would be glass and china. You have to pay really close attention and jump off when it gets too high. And DON'T fall in love with something until it is in your hot hands, otherwise it can be very expensive! The person that is recording the bids and who bought what is called a clerk. They didn't used to sell so many items in lots but with all the junk in the world and the increased wages for everyone from the auctioneer to the person who throws the extra stuff in the trash they can't sell individual items unless they are worth something and baskets usually aren't. I bid and bought on my first items when I was 12 for a whole 25 cents.
I realize this is two years ago but that swan is in eBay for $150. Charles jobe's Ducks were very highly priced! Evidently the he's pretty renowned and so is his father or brother
I love auctions and been to a few over my time. I know they can be hard to sit through. I do have a suggestion. Nearly every auction I have bought things from have a silent bid option. You go through everything, mark down the #'s of the items you are interested in along with what the item is. Beside each one you put the highest price you are willing to pay. Give the list to the auction house and while they are auctioning off the items, the auctioneer inserts your bid at the appropriate time. Sometimes you win sometimes you don't. For me that was the best way to deal with the auction madness. Then you go back in the next day or two, pay up and collect the things you won. Sometimes I enjoy being there all day, especially on a cold crappy winter day with time to kill, but mostly I get tired, antsy and my rear end hurts from sitting. lol Really enjoyed this video and I think you got some great stuff - even if some pieces were "big". People are looking for statement pieces I think.
That jade color jardinere is pretty & that colorful "ice bucket" is great. I've been to a few auctions & you go in with "I'm in control" & in no time that's out the window! Good picks.

I just love watching your videos. You are so much fun, and have interesting material. I’m sure you’ll do great with your finds, even the ducks. They look really nice. You usually have a good eye for the finer things.
Hi! Theblack “ducks” you showed are in fact LOONS…very popular in Maine and other states with deep lakes. The small one is the lady and the larger one is the gentleman and they are a bonded pair. Loons mate for life! We go to camp in Maine and love sitting outside at night listening to the couples wooohooo to each other. They make a beautiful sound. Recently something has happened to Mr Loon’s sweet wife and he was woohooing a very lonely call for her all night. Animals DO know love and loss! The pair you have are particularly beautiful and depending on the poetic story you weave around them in your listing could fetch a handsome price
I like going to estate auctions that are onsite ( like at a house/farm) they tend to be a bit cheaper. I have only been to auction houses that sell off tables ( buyers standing around them). Thanks for sharing your experiences and looks like you got a lot of good items!
I don't know how I missed this video but I have enjoyed every second of it and you telling about your trip to the auction and then a tour of your kitchen like you're really a real person haha. Also, I wanted to tell you that when I used to go to live auctions and they would let you show them what you needed to be brought up because you only had a certain amount of time to be there and they used to accommodate me by making it the next second or third up for bidding. So you might want to see if that will work for you because usually in options there is someone that is roaming the floor to tell the auctioneer when someone is bidding and so you might be able to approach one of those people and ask if a certain lot be brought up because you have to leave soon. Just a thought
That cigar box would make an excellent pastel holder for artists! -----or, would double and triple A batteries fit in the holes? Chalk, crayons, I love that box!
We have a local auction that we started wondering if we are addicted to going. In our area, casinos are a big thing. We don't go to casinos so we always joke that the auction is our casino.
Just wanted to comment on the bread. I love that bread, if I don’t have the time to mill my own flour ( I brought my own flour mill when I moved from Germany to Canada) and do my saure dough, I buy and eat organic Ezekiel bread . Good choice 👍❤️ And I love your videos by the way !!! Keep going
Such a fun video! You made me laugh! Great pieces. I think it's fabulous that you are always open to knew things and are careful of burnout. Thank you for your video and thank you to Lisa for her great support role!
In the 90s there were lots of hand made artist wood ducks. Some still do well:) BTW you have ducks, swan, geese and some loons. I’ve had luck selling loons
Hi Karen, great video. I loved the rug and the ducks. I bought a ring unseen at my first auction - "emerald and sterling silver". Which was going so cheaply I thought what the heck why not. Hmm it was a wire bent ring with an emerald the size of a grain of sand. 🧐 Oh well, that's auctions. 🌹
Auctions are sooo intimidating. I've yet to participate. Quite addictive I bet, once you get into the experience. The variety of items was amazing. My husband buys cars at auto auctions, which he has taken me along to....never knew what was bring said and kept my hands at my side at all times.
With live auctions not happening where I am (Ontario, Canada)......there are many online auctions that auctions houses have been using to conduct an auction. I like this much better than actually going to an auction. I find the pros outweigh the pros of going to a live auction. For example, not having to waste a day waiting around for your lots to come up for auction, not seeing your competition, and a lot of people don't resort to online auctions due to not being computer savvy. The only thing you have to do is pickup on the day they arrange for winning bidders. I have gotten to best deals on items thought online auctions. One of my best finds was for $10 lot of vases...got a haul angel fish shell vase, a Royal haegar fish vase and some other vase...just sold the hull vase for $50. Sometimes there are lots that have items in that are not seen in the photos...and I find cool things in mixed lots where there isn't a lot of interest on that particular lot of items. It's amazing! I plan on continuing to source this way.
@@Mary.Mercedes if you are in Ontario, Canada try Ontario Hibid auctions. I am not sure what online autions there are outside of the province and outside of Canada or in USA
What fun! Thanks for sharing your auction experience 👍 I think most of the big thrift stores like Goodwill & Salvation Army get so much stuff and maybe about 1/3 of it can be pretty valuable all the way up to the “woo-hoo” sort of thing. To train or develop some of their employees into valuing the donations by sifting through (so much) to get to the good stuff and then to sell it “at the prices that resellers hope to get” would be quite an undertaking. It would also be a major organizational shift that I guess? they just haven’t decided to take. Goodwill, as you know, does have a website auction site where they sell some of the high dollar merch. I still wonder sometimes, though, how they can overlook or ignore so many items that are quite valuable. Yes,some of the valuable items require more specialized knowledge that they don’t possess, but some items, like you pick up all the time, are obvious. I sure am grateful they’re there, though, and hope the “stuff just keeps on coming.”😉
I go to a lot of auctions here in Central PA, State College area. Typically, the prices are pretty cheap. You should come here and go with me sometime! I really love that swan, I probably would have paid $35 for her too! Although, I'm not buying for resale.
You seem so happy in this video!! Not that youre not happy in others..but it seems you really enjoyed making this video!! I do online local auctions. I can prebid up to a week early and or bid right as its live. Try online theyre fun as well!!
Auctions should be good for you generally;" 1st cuz your tastes are soooo varied , 2nd cuz you’re soooo knowledgeable 3rd cuz they’re fun for you.... now. & 4th cuz you have such a great attitude , you see this mostly as a learning experience. Might be bored later...Don’t know when this video is being made, but know that “seasonally” it’s much tougher to source during the winter months at auction generally cuz of competition both in that there ain’t much else going on, & the fact the serious buyers are all clustering at these auctions. Had an antique shop in the 80’s 90’s in n.e. Ohio & loved goin to western pa & ny goin to auctions..... you’re in a good sourcing area though..
my cousin lives in Oil City, PA, and has been selling on eBay since 1998 and that's all he does is go to auctions and the flea markets in his surrounding area.
I am watching this 2 yrs later, and I'm so happy that these older videos come up! Most enjoyable!!

@Donna at BoogalooBuys Interesting. What online auctions do you recommend?
@@Mary.Mercedes if you are in Ontario, Canada try Ontario Hibid auctions. I am not sure what online autions there are outside of the province and outside of Canada or in USA
@@donnaatboogaloobuys5381 thanks!
I really enjoy all your Video's. I know what you mean about going to Auctions. What Fun !
What fun! Thanks for sharing your auction experience 👍
I think most of the big thrift stores like Goodwill & Salvation Army get so much stuff and maybe about 1/3 of it can be pretty valuable all the way up to the “woo-hoo” sort of thing.
Love the kitchen decor. I agree with everything you said about Auctions.
You always crack me up! And I always enjoy your finds! 💛🧡❤️💜💙💚
Thanks for sharing and caring! Stay Safe!
The rug is beautiful! I believe the green pot is McCoy…
You’ll turn a nice profit on the decoys. They all look very nice quality. Glad you had a nice time.
my cousin lives in Oil City, PA, and has been selling on eBay since 1998 and that's all he does is go to auctions and the flea markets in his surrounding area.
Love the shelving that you installed.
