Hi, stumbled on your video while looking for a set of all around walkie talkies, outdoor use in the EU mainly (woodland) can you recommend your top choice? Il want two with a budget similar to this or Max double that of this? Many thanks 🙏🏼
Hi, first of all nice review video . Can I ask if it would or could charge these in a car with standard USB and cabel ? It's mostly for long car trips.
I bought this one. Still yet to test the range especially in an urban setting but as for ease of use its great. I just wished it charged faster. It took like 8 or more hours.
I like the idea of the microUSB charging because you can charge it with a powerbank. Shame it's not USB-C , but hey.... My recommendation for the next gen would be Lihtium powered and USB-C. Lithium either 1x 18650 or Li-Po pack exchangable with USB-C connector built into the the battery pack. Like the Petzl SWIFT RL.
I also look forward to the next models , and hope that they are more like the previous ones , these look almost like toys , cheap finishes to save production costs on current models ! And the batteries are very weak, and they take so long to charge, I only use rechargeable AA batteries in mine at 2100mah each, they last a long time! 18650 I use in my flashlights, they are too heavy for a walkie talkie and was going to increase the size too!
@@chuckyzaosurrealadhdphda7616 Yeah , the included NiMH pack 550mAH is a joke and takes ages to charge and drains quite fast. 18650 usually weighs 40-50grams per cell ,LiPo even less. Best 18650 are about 3350mAh from Panasonic or Sanyo , Molicell. Take a look at Petzl Swift RL battery, tiny battery and 2350mAh. NiMH is outdated and a missing Lithium option is a pity , alkaline batteries are a headache and throwaway waste. :/ Motorola should update , it's about time.
Some other manufacturers such as Retevis or Raddiotity are very nice as well, and with USB programing cable they can be changed to 2 watt, although technically it is not legal. Retevis RT24 ➜ th-cam.com/video/tXMsDmwjKSM/w-d-xo.html Radioddity R2 ➜ th-cam.com/video/ujXpHOlgYwU/w-d-xo.html
Hello i have a question. can you or someone who reads this tell me if money is no option which PMR radio is really the best in terms of functions build quality just all around the best. Years ago i done a lot on CB radio but i have no experience with PMR radio. All i know is 0.5 Watt power is standard (by law) some of 8 channel some have 16 channel. This thing about 8 and 16 channel makes me think back of the time that we had cb radio with 22 channel but later we could have 40 and when you had 22 you always were frustrated when people go on the higher channels and you couldn't follow. Also are those brands of PMR radio that HAM operators use like Kenwood better or have more functions like those of brands like Midland - Stabo etc ?
Thank you for your reply. I posted this question 9 months ago and by now i already bought the Midland G9pro sadly it is not what i expected it to be. I live in Munich Germany and 99% of the time this radio is silent no people on there besides every now and then just some very young kids who play like cops and robbers or something .. Cheers
@@willidevegt8831 Hello from Lisbon Portugal ! I've always heard good things about the midland G9, I like the design, I just haven't bought it yet because it takes up a lot of space, but I've heard in reviews that it has more range than the midland g18, it must be because of the long antenna! I bought the motorola t62 a year ago and I'm sorry because it's not water resistant, but I've already managed to do a QSO at 39km and 42km I even filmed, but it was from high places! in the city the buildings etc absorb a lot of the signal, but I usually walk in the city in scan and I hear a lot of random things, especially cranes and works! Try to go to a high place, these radios depend on line of sight, there are people on youtube to open the midland g9 and g7 and cut the jumpers and the g9 is 5w, 10x more power! but the battery runs out faster of course! and makes radio illegal. Greetings! ps : you can always buy a baofeng uv5r that has 5w at maximum power and listen to many frequencies in scan and has many antennas that are sold aftermarket that further increase the range, but it is illegal without a HAM license too .
@@EDCwhistlesSCRATCHCARDS Hello my brother from Lisbon Thank you for your reply. Many years ago i used to have CB radio and Midland is a brand i remember from that time. I`m really a Dutchman (meaning from the Netherlands) after living in Malaysia for little more then 11 years i now live in Munich Germany. Because of Covid restrictions and lockdowns i was thinking to start the old hobby of CB radio again. But i live in an apartment and it is very difficult to place antennas. That was my reason to start pmr446 because on 70cm you don't need huge antennas for that. Further more the G9 i thought to be a good choice because it also has the 69 LPD channels. But like i said i never hear anything on them only some times when the weather is nice i can hear some very young kids on there. Like you i also walked around the city and outside my place to see but really i get nothing. Maybe PMR is not very popular in Munich or even in Germany. I remember a time when CB radio was popular in the Netherlands you could buy those radios almost on every street corner but in the 3 years i live in Munich i never saw any shop selling them but only online. Also i never found any house with CB antenna on it. You are right about the jumper settings for the G9 but think about it that is only for your out going signal your receive will not get any better. So even if i would change to higher power i still wont get any signal maybe because there are simple no other people around who use PMR. Thanks for the tip about buying the Baofeng UV-5-R i bought one months ago including a programing cable and i software to program it. This one i hear other people talking but those are outside what i can legally talk. I programmed all legal frequencies in it (PMR446 - LPD - Freenet) but also with this radio on the for me legal frequencies i hear nothing. I had a peek on your TH-cam Channel and will subscribe. Looks like you like many of the same things that i do. I to like EDC and everything involved with that. I have a couple of Maxpedition bags and i collect knives and watches. My wife always scold me when i buy an other knife or bag asking me you still have not enough LOL. That's what I do at viewpoints in my city and I hear a lot! wow that about cb radio there being so popular and sold out on the street must have been good times! here the cb was used more but not so much, I remember that my stepfather used it a lot in the truck because at the time there were only cb and motorola pagers that he used to communicate with colleagues! It's a shame the pmr446 is not used in your city, I used it a lot in 2009 and I think I listened to more things at the time and it was a budget radio from a Portuguese brand I couldn't speak at more than 100m but I could hear things from afar, maybe it was good reception but transmission sensitivity was very weak! I went back to using it daily for almost a year now with a T62 and these motorolas have good range, but I heard more things on scan in 2009! but they say that the users increased because it was necessary to add 8 more channels, but I never heard anyone from 9-16! Have you tried opening the squelch to catch weak signals from further away? in portugal I read a news that last year they raided lifeguards and seized many baofeng uv5r and will be fined and they were broadcasting on another frequency! but I know there are a lot of people in airsoft using uv5r because they are cheaper, others use midland! you saw pictures of the russia ukraine war and everyone uses uv5r! Great review. Very detailed. I wanted to ask you or anybody from the community. I need a set of walky talkies that i can use at sea. You see my wife gets on her SUP while i stay on land and i would need a good pair that can withstand usage at the sea, not just water but also range. She goes even up to 10k paddling and i would like to be able to stay in contact with her just in case of any emergencies. Many thanks.
I recommend using the included power supply but charging via USB should work as well, because the Motorola T82 Extreme has a micro USB port for charging.
Just brought a couple of these and find that the VOX does not work unless you shout. I have vox set at level 3 (most sensitive). Talking in a quit room at normal levels the VOX does not switch in. Tried both headset. Even setting to IVOX mode (no headset, just using the T82 mic) I find I have to shout. T82 Going back
Thanks, actually, I like the old TLKR T81 a bit more, because of accessories and build quality. Seems to have better clarity of sound as well ➜ th-cam.com/video/l7xragucYYY/w-d-xo.html
Can you charge it with any normal Micro Usb charger, or is there any danger to that? I'm thinking of ghifting one of them to the kid next door so he can talk to my kid.
You have many informative videos. I am looking to buy 4 walki talkies for my kids to use on the beach so they need to be able to cope with sand and maybe some moister air. Would the ipx 4 - T82 version suffice or do I need to go for the H2O T92?
it is sad that there is no charging station, but the USB connectors mean that one can use existing cables, also ones that we already have in the car, to charge the radios For the waterproofing issue, I would put a piece of DuckTape over the USB charging port to be sure
Yes, for example, people in the United States use both FRS, GMRS, and MURS, basically, every country can make there own rules, in the case of GMRS you need to register and pay a onetime fee to use it because it gives you more channels and higher output power.
The European PMR446 has a very low output power compared to the US, but then again, most people use cellphones not realizing its a networked digital radio, kind of funny.
@@ReviewTechTV I think the rules and output power ratings are pretty much the same. I know that in the USA you need a license to operate the GMRS channels, while no license required for the FRS channels. GMRS channels can usually go to 1 watt power. I was just wondering why the different frequencies...that is, 462Mhz in the Americas, vs 446Mhz in Europe. By Americas, I mean everybody from Alaska to Argentina.
Hi again :), have you ever analysed the range with the Motorola PMRs? The previous series (TLKR, from T40 to T80) and the new series (TalkAbout T42 to T82), going from lower models to higher ones, have different range, up to 4km, then up to 6km/8km and up to 10km. I understand the way the radio waves in VHF/UHF work. But I just wonder why those different ranges between the models? They all have the same power, I guess same antennas of same lengths. Thnx.

Dumb Newby question here, what's the difference between the T82 and T800 except for the Bluetooth and App for the T800. Is the T800 better, does it have better range or does it also still only operate within the "Lisence free" limits?

Struggling to decide between this and the T92 or even the T80 extreme. I can get the T82 extreme for around about the same price as the T92, slightly less for the T80 extreme in as new condition. I just want a walkie talkie with good range, is robust and must comply with PMR446, so no Baofengs etc. Any advice?
I do not know if i can help in time , but if you want a radio just to walk in the rain or snow , the t82extreme is better , the sound and antenna are better , I've seen both open , the t92 has a low sound and gets hit a little of rain on the speaker the sound becomes very low and distorted until it dries up! and the t92's flashlight lights up automatically when in contact with water, with the pocket wet from the rain, it's enough to turn on the flashlight and use up the battery! and the original batteries are weak, I only use AA rechargeable 2100mah last a long time! the t80 extreme is more pretty , but is a AAA radio , less autonomy !
@@chuckyzaosurrealadhdphda7616 many thanks, however I did end up getting a good deal on some T92's. They seem to work fine and have good range even in urban and hilly environments. Can you do a review on the radios that you're meant to be reviewing and not the older versions. I really don't care about a comparison, it's simple, I just want to know the details about the "new" ones.
With that weak power, short antenna and at 446MHz it really depends on the terrain. In urban areas you'll struggle to get a kilometer. On open terrain you can get more than 10km easily. This is by design since these frequencies don't require license. That means anyone can pick them up and spam one of the 16 available channels. With bigger range these channels would get congested really fast. It's a nice trade-off I feel. For the most part these radios fulfill their purpose really well. I have older T60 which I use when cycling with my brother so we can talk regardless of traffic between us and noise. For camping, fishing, hiking and similar activities these radios are great. If you want more distance getting licensed is the only way. People use to get around the hardware limitation of 0.5W and fixed antenna by purchasing Baofeng radios, which was the reason those radios got banned in many countries since they can emit on PMR446 and FRS frequencies, but they can't emit with weaker power than 2W basically ruining the experience for everyone.
Mike C : It would probably be much better if both radios were outdoors......the radio receiving during the range test is indoors so the reception there won't be too good.
We've had 30 miles here in the UK, from Winter Hill to the Peak District. If you are high up with a line of sight path, UHF signals travel really well. Not so in an urban environment, as has been said, but that is an intentional objective of allocating these frequencies.
The range is crap. Not even 2km when they advertise 10km? I know the 10 is for ideal conditions but getting awful communication at about 20% of the advertised range is just plain lying. Based on your review these things are utterly useless.
Normal people use meters rather than "feet", there is far greater number of normal peope which use meters compared to some unreasonable measuring "standard" which nobody really cares about or shouldnt care about. Bottom line ,420 feet.... means nothing to me, or to anybody else who cares about proper things in the world, please use meters , the real precision standard!!! Thx!!!

Excellent test, I think those Motorolas are very good..
Yeaa, review is good and I've made a decision to get a set for work and airsoft needs.
How come the US version doesnt come woth case plus accessories
can I also use the Motorola T82 in a densely built-up city center?
do you recommend this for wedding photography team? if not what do you recommend please?
Good range test I've also got them radios really good sets I've activated my other 8 chs which it tells you in the booklet how to do it.....
Awesome, I am glad to hear that.
@@ReviewTechTV just a thought Motorola's have very sensitive mics so you needn't be as close as the pick up audio is really good on voice audio.....
Hello!

Also are those brands of PMR radio that HAM operators use like Kenwood better or have more functions like those of brands like Midland - Stabo etc ?
midland g18 pro i think is one of the best legal one pmr446
@@EDCwhistlesSCRATCHCARDS Hello my brother from Lisbon
Thank you for your reply.
But when we are out and about and she needs something like a toothpick she is always happy that i`m prepared and can give it to her.
Brother thanks again for your reply take care and stay healthy all the best also to your girlfriend

@@willidevegt8831 Hello again my Brother , this is my main channel , midland seems to be the best brand along with motorola, I've never had a CB, but I'm looking at the midland allan 42, it's a portable cb do you know? cool you lived in many places! I lived in 11 houses but in Lisbon!
where I live I sometimes see some radio antennas on the roofs in the past it seems that the neighbors complained a lot about interference watching TV hehe . and is your midlang g9 original or did you cut the jumpers inside? strange that you never hear anything even when walking around the city, in lisbon I hear from clothing stores, restaurants, tourist guides, but most I hear are cranes! Yes, maybe there aren't many enthusiasts in your city, in Portugal the pmr446 community has been growing with the QSOs, lots of activity on Sunday mornings! I've seen some videos of your beautiful city and one day I want to live in Germany! Do you have a place nearby tall above the city where you can relax and scan the radio?
Thank you yes I love edc! I never go outside without my fenix pd35 flashlight, my whistles.. I also love casio watches since I was a kid! maxpedition I never had anything but I like their minimalist wallet etc! I use eastpak a lot I've been a fan of the brand since I was a kid too! So you like spydercos and cold steel too? and boots? I'm thinking of buying the Original swat classic 9 !hehe yes about you buying more , but when you need a toothpick ! even to save someone , a car belt stuck etc , it 's better to have it and not need it than you need it and not have it ! I just noticed that the FRS frequencies used in Europe are completely different from FRS frequencies used in the Americas.
Yes, for example, people in the United States use both FRS, GMRS, and MURS, basically, every country can make there own rules, in the case of GMRS you need to register and pay a onetime fee to use it because it gives you more channels and higher output power.
FRS ➜ www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-divisions/mobility-division/family-radio-service-frs
GMRS ➜ www.fcc.gov/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs
MURS ➜ www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-divisions/mobility-division/multi-use-radio-service-murs
Taiwan uses some US FRS frequencies
Hi again :), have you ever analysed the range with the Motorola PMRs? The previous series (TLKR, from T40 to T80) and the new series (TalkAbout T42 to T82), going from lower models to higher ones, have different range, up to 4km, then up to 6km/8km and up to 10km. I understand the way the radio waves in VHF/UHF work. But I just wonder why those different ranges between the models? They all have the same power, I guess same antennas of same lengths. Thnx.
Yes, the European license-free PMR radios are in the UHF range and have an output power of 0,5 watts.
If you are located in the US a comparable TLKR or Talkabout radio would have 22channles FRS with 2 watts.

Unfortunately no, not with the Motorola radios, some other manufacturers allow you to reprogram the radio with a USB programming cable, such as the Retevis RT24 ➜ th-cam.com/video/tXMsDmwjKSM/w-d-xo.html
Here is an example of a programming cable, but it only works with some radios, and raising the output power from 0,5 to 2watts is most likely not allowed. ➜ geni.us/pTQaN

I just want a walkie talkie with good range, is robust and must comply with PMR446, so no Baofengs etc. Any advice?
I do not know if i can help in time , but if you want a radio just to walk in the rain or snow , the t82extreme is better , the sound and antenna are better , I've seen both open , the t92 has a low sound and gets hit a little of rain on the speaker the sound becomes very low and distorted until it dries up! and the t92's flashlight lights up automatically when in contact with water, with the pocket wet from the rain, it's enough to turn on the flashlight and use up the battery! and the original batteries are weak, I only use AA rechargeable 2100mah last a long time! the t80 extreme is more pretty , but is a AAA radio , less autonomy !

how to pair it ?
Could you give a better range test than that?
does the headset are good ?
its 11km if there is nothing between the signal
Not good range with these then. Signal breaking up and scratchy at less than a mile?!
Mike C
: It would probably be much better if both radios were outdoors......the radio receiving during the range test is indoors so the reception there won't be too good.
We've had 30 miles here in the UK, from Winter Hill to the Peak District. If you are high up with a line of sight path, UHF signals travel really well. Not so in an urban environment, as has been said, but that is an intentional objective of allocating these frequencies.

By the way, did you know that about 450 million people use the imperial system for measurement? Are you saying they are unimportant?
@@ReviewTechTV in deutschland "imperial standard" is irrelevant so is to other over 7000 million people (7 billion) around the world, so lets put it in perspective 5.9 % mostly english speaking war mongering people are worthy of ignoring, and i will not enter in further discussion how germanic and romance speaking tribes have in the last 150 years directly been involved in genocide over my people by cutting total population to less than half with over 60% percent of casualties being young males, so you can imagine that if i am called upon i will be frustrated and angry, to say it mildly. Have a nice day!!!
Yes, I understand, I hope it helps that all new English videos feature metre as well as feet, because many of my viewers are from the UK and the US, I think it is only fair to include both values. But of course you are invited to visit my German channel, there I only use the metric system ➜ th-cam.com/users/CreateSuccessTVDE
Again, thanks for the feedback.

miles and feet. oh.... :(
I apologise, newer videos have both feet and meter. As a rule of thumb: city short range, suburban medium range, country side unobstructed best rage.
These radios are a f%^&ing joke.
I understand, some people would love to have a longer range, unfortunately, all PMR446 radios are limited to 0,5 watt, people in the US can benefit from FRS which can transmit up to 2watt legally.
Output power limitation is set by your government, not the manufacturer.
@@ReviewTechTV Totally understand, I have met ppl that are have GMRS license operating GRMS frequencies on Moto XPR 4550s and other mobile stations. I know its not legal, but I have seen soo many operate on them and on the baofeng radios.
Yeap, GMRS should give you about 5 watts on a handheld, a 10-year license is about $70, unfortunately, we don't have an equivalent over here in Europe.
@@ReviewTechTVGMRS don’t need license in Canada
Poor range test
How much range do you get?
On my route 1 mile is possible with the European low power 0,5 watt PMR radios.
US version can have 2 watt, so look for FRS version, see video description.
