Thanks for the post. I bought a strong magnet because it was easier than returning to the store, but it didn't work on my tag which looked like yours. I am totally able to hear the magnetic field move something inside which makes a distinct click, but no amount of fiddling has produced a separation of the pin and receiver. I bought my garment in a grocery store at self-checkout and didn't notice it had a tag and also it didn't set off the store alarm, so I was unaware of the tag until I got home. Since I have the receipt, I'll have to go back to the store to sort it out. I wanted a strong magnet anyway because I tinker and it looks like you do too. Have a great tomorrow!

One day, as I shopped in the local mall, just about every shop's security system was triggered as I walked into and out of them. It had me (and shop staff) rattled. I had nothing in my pockets. My wallet scanned OK, my phone scanned OK. Eventually I worked out what was going on. A few days before I had purchased a belt for my trousers. It had a cloth type barcode label on the inside that I didn't bother removing. Turns out this label had some sort of RFID device in it that hadn't been 'deactivated' by the store staff.
@@jv-ep2tc you know what does work? The top of a hanger. You just slide the top of the hanger in between the two pieces of the security tag and it gives you enough space to grab the little end. Then you pull the little end and pull the big end with the hanger and it pops right off. Never failed me 300 times. Ink or not. Don't ask how I know or why I'm so experienced.
For anyone who doesn’t have a magnet, the back of a hammer works to pry it off as well. The part of the hammer that pulls screws will just as easily pull the tag pin. Hope this helps someone. Do NOT use the hammer if it has ink in the tag though!
How would you know if there’s ink or not. I bought a gown. The tag was removed in the store. When I brought it home, I noticed a second tag, that neither sales person nor me noticed at the time of the purchase. I don’t have a strong magnet on hands and I concern to ruin a gown with the hammer. Any suggestions?
@@ingridstrom8373 Usually they would say somewhere on it that it contains ink. If not, it likely doesn’t. I’ve never seen one that didn’t label it if it has ink. I’m not really sure though. Usually, if it’s not labeled, I just pry it off the best way I can if I can’t get it back to the store. If you’re not sure, and you are able to bring it back, it’s probably best to bring it to the store and let them take it off. I’m really sorry I couldn’t be more help.

The worse thing is that store has 30 days return policy, and knowing that I’ll wear it three months later I haven’t saved a receipt. Bring it to the store with tag but without receipt would look like I stole it. But I definitely didn’t. And when I was leaving the store it didn’t beep. This happened to me on a pair of boots but i didnt have a magnet, i filed down the side where he used the magnet and then used toe nail clippers to pull out the spring and other small parts inside and then it just popped off.
That's just so funny...... Not the tag being left, but the "hack" to remove it. If that had happened to me (without knowing what to do now), in my "overkill" way of doing things I would have taken my dremel and used a cutoff wheel on that! This should bring you at least 100,000 hits! Well done!
Thanks for the heads up. I was going to use a Dremel as well but got lazy and just stuck part of the tag in a vise and clamped it down, then rotated and clamped it down again and that did the trick to break off the head. It took me less than a minute and did not have to worry about plastic shavings.
I watched 3 videos on how to get the security tag off before I came across yours. I heard them talking about cutting it off with a knife, burning it off, even ink in the mechanism. I knew there had to be an easier way to do it. Everyone should have a good magnet. I got a magnet off amazon to find a screw I dropped in the grass that was a rare size. Just watched a video that showed a guy ruin a kitchen towel, foul a ceramic knife and inhale black smoke from burning plastic. I tried a very strong magnet from an ABS wheel sensor...not quite strong enough. I ended removing the plastic dome-shaped end by gently crushing it until it broke away. The locking mechanism sprang out after picking at the broken plastic. It worked, but with worry about an ink bomb going off. Tnx de Detroit, dit-dit.

Oh, well you can usually get 5hem sort with very small screwdrivers or allen key tools...they typically bolt together. Or you can do it the theraputic way and smash them with a hammer until they come apart.
I had to use this method could with the method of cutting off the tip of the plastic mechanism to remove the spring. After I removed the spring I could use the magnet to unlock.
That is just a regular security tag it has no ink in it so you could have smashed it with a hammer and the shoe would have been fine. The ink ones you can clearly see the ink along with a warning on them saying tampering with them will release harmful ink

My wife ordered some clothes online from Kohls and they all came with those dam things on. I drilled the backside of them off. I didn't have a strong enough magnet to release the lock. After I removed them I dissected the tags. None of them had dye inside. I know some do, but not all.

I have a jacket I ordered because it's a 2 hour trip to my nearest store. They sent it with a security tag. I'm trying to not have to make the 2 hour trip, the whole point for ordering.
Bestie, the video exists because the knowledge *does* need to be out there. It's not actually helpful for shoplifting purposes because the security tag isn't what makes alarms go off. It's helpful when you buy an item and the clerk forgets or doesn't notice the tag (why I'm here, the outside of the tag just looked like an aesthetic button so no one noticed it was a tag)
I just got home 80 miles from the store, & the 2 beanies I bought had these on them ugh. My son got them off with wire cutters, however the ink got on the white stripe on the black one. 🥺

The wife had a problem with a dress she bought and the tag was still attached and she couldn't be bothered spending 40 minutes driving back just to get it removed so i used a pair of pliers and just crushed the tag until it fell off. Problem solved
Me and lots of people do not have strong magnet, i used a large drill bit opposite side of pin, 30 seconds a spring popped out and pin fell out. Easy and no ink came out

I had bought a retail boxed computer part from my supplier and called to get an RMA for it because they sent the wrong item. They sent me a return UPS call tag so we brought it into our local UPS shipping location which was a farm store. When I walked through the door the alarm went off. They knew me so it was easy to explain. They passed it over the deactivation pad and put it in their UPS pile. It was embarrassing none the less.

Use a strong magnet. Put it to the bottom of the “bubble” part, opposite to the pin piece , then just lightly pull it.

I just got home 80 miles from the store, & the 2 beanies I bought had these on them ugh. My son got them off with wire cutters, however the ink got on the white stripe on the black one. 🥺

Thing is I threw the receipt away thinking they took the alarm off my curtains. I just bought a new house so I'm too busy painting overseeing ppl I employed to work for me. Just now I go to remove the two sets of curtains I bought from the bag and one of them has the alarm on it smh 🤬🤦
A hammer worked for me 🤷♀️ I also saw someone use a condom by wrapping it around the pin several times…that worked too! 😂 I didn’t have a strong enough magnet on hand.

Use a pair of tin snippers or shingle snippers.
The wife had a problem with a dress she bought and the tag was still attached and she couldn't be bothered spending 40 minutes driving back just to get it removed so i used a pair of pliers and just crushed the tag until it fell off. Problem solved

Me and lots of people do not have strong magnet, i used a large drill bit opposite side of pin, 30 seconds a spring popped out and pin fell out.

I bought the magnets, but it didn't work. It loosened the pin a bit, but it's still logged in there :(

@@blingwing3521 I had to burn the tag to take the spring out, after that the magnet worked.
@@blingwing3521 Also later on I tried the magnets on a different type of tag and it worked by simple taps with the magnets. These magnets do not work on all tags though.

I had bought a retail boxed computer part from my supplier and called to get an RMA for it because they sent the wrong item. They sent me a return UPS call tag so we brought it into our local UPS shipping location which was a farm store. When I walked through the door the alarm went off. They knew me so it was easy to explain. They passed it over the deactivation pad and put it in their UPS pile. It was embarrassing none the less.
