    1. Keep it short (gradually increase time)
    2. Share the workload
    3. Take part in the writing (add funny things, and bring your own excitement)
    4. Don’t push too hard (design, type out at the end. Give them some time)
    5. Make something of substance (something they’d like to keep at the end, so it’s not trash worthy.)

Hello Suzi, i'm a big fan of your videos, they have helped me so much with my teaching, i will definetly start the story activity with my students, do you have any game/activity (or tips) for younger students who are just begining to write?
    Best regards!

Hi Priscilla! Thank you for your comment! I'm glad my videos helped! :D I DO have an excellent activity for students who are just starting to write. I made a video about it - check it out here:
      th-cam.com/video/lFmWwOSwHXU/w-d-xo.html
I know I talk about revision here, but you could use this game for introducing new words.
To give the kids a bit of a choice - I usually write up the new words we will be using on the board and then allow them to choose which ones they want to learn about - they have to either find out what the words mean on their own (if you have access to dictionaries / tablet / computer) or you can explain the words to them. Then they can write the words on pieces of paper, each word - two pieces of paper - on the one: the word, on the other, it's definition. This can be a picture or another word that describes it. For eg. [ice] + [cold]
Then you can collect all the little pieces of paper, shuffle them together and turn them into a game like in the video.
ALSO i just remembered, I had a group that didn't want to write AT ALL, and I gave them an activity where they had to create their own comics. Either in groups or on their own. Comics are great because it's mostly pictures and they can use simple words and sentences. (Help! Go away! Hello! Who are you?) It's great because kids then come to you to ask you to help them with the word. I love it when kids come me and ask me "how do you write "x" in English". My heart melts that they come to me with a word and not the other way round.
I hope this helps? Maybe I should do a video about this with some more ideas? Hmm.
      Wishing you all the best!!!

Hi Suzi, these are great tips, but have you got any ideas for a younger child. My boy is 6 and he struggles with writing, I want to make him enjoy it.

Hi Chad! Make board games or card games together. You can create games like snap or memory or snakes and ladders type of games by cutting out paper squares and creating pairs - so one piece of paper has a picture on it and the other has the written word on it. If you take part in the process of creating these games your child will gladly participate. If it's a snap or memory game, you can say that each of you needs to create 5 pairs of cards - you can mix it up by saying you will do the pictures for his words and he can do the pictures for your words. Check out this video for some more ideas: th-cam.com/video/lFmWwOSwHXU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TeachingEnglishwithSuzi

This is abusive and toxic. There is no such thing as dysgraphia - that is a pseudomedical label concocted by people who simply disagree with people who don't enjoy writing. Imagine if we came up with pseudomedical terms for everything we disagreed with. You do people a disservice. At the end of the day, if people genuinely don't like creative writing and prefer doing other things, that's completely okay and NORMAL and HEALTHY.

Hi there! :) I'm glad we agree! 4:15 I say "don't push too hard". If I child doesn't want to take part in an activity, he doesn't' have to. You can talk with the child and think of some other ideas the child can do. In my experience though, most kids who didn't want to take part in the activity in the beginning, joined in later on anyway once they saw that the rest of the group was having fun. Giving a child options is also great because they don't feel trapped and feel like they have a say in the matter - which they do! I didn't mention anything about dysgraphia or child abuse I'm wondering if you haven't mixed up any videos. Have a great day! :)
