    Thank you. Maybe if I watch enough of these videos, one day... I'll be able to do this to one of the old TVs I've collected.

    Great video. Always good to see an RGB modding tutorial which talks about how crap the OSD Snip method is.
    Check out the SHMUPS TV RGB Mod thread as we've come up with a new method to mux OSD and external RGB so that the OSD Snip method is not necessary anymore.

      The RGB and Blanking lines all go to the Closed Caption header. Ground can be accessed in a thousand places on the TV chassis, likely even on the closed caption header. The Sync is injected into the AV port. I generally just wire up an RCA AV cable. I think he even gets his blanking voltage from the Closed caption header 5V. If not can get that from the TV chassis' 5V regulator or if you are connecting to scart, use the pin 16 voltage.
      This TV one of the easiest mods anyone could ever attempt and a great one for a novice to start with.If you want to study it, go to elektrotanya and get the service manual/schematics.
      Note that the RGB lines all have to be 75 Ohm terminated to ground.

      That's all correct Mark C. All the lines were available on the closed caption header including the +5V which i used to switch the jungle ic's mode to RGB.

    i have to questions
    1) where did you get you ground from?
    2)do you have a schematic for the project board

      Ground is easy to find, because you can just look for it with a multi meter!

    I have a Sony KV-13TR28 with a similar caption board I hope to use for RGB modding. Do you mind sharing what pins you wired what to on the prototype board connection to the CC board pin header? I am just having trouble following where the 10 kOhm resistor goes and also how you wired up the switch. Thanks!

    Would be interesting if one could modify an rf-only tv to accept composite, s video, componet, etc...

    • @CaseTheCorvetteMan
      @CaseTheCorvetteMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can in most cases.

    • @CaseTheCorvetteMan

      No mate, have a look on the Shmups forum, there is a whole thread on it. Every chassis will vary, but almost all can be made to accept an RGB signal.

  • @Odolwa2

    if i can't find a schematic, can i simply solder wires to every pin on the jungle IC and test them manually (outside the chassis for safety) until I find the R G B and blanking pins? what I plan to do is hook in sync to line1 composite, set tv to line1, and open the OSD menu with the remote. then from the back of the sega, take wires and put them in the RGB port holes, then tap those wires on the "random wires" that I've brought out from the jungle IC for a split second, until I get a signal. once I've located the pin/wires, keep them tied in, turn off the OSD via remote, and take the 5v from the back of the sega (pin 5 in the port) and tap it on random wires until I get the 5v supply to trigger the blanking feature. after all pins are located, do the regular modification, use a switch so that 5v doesn't back up into the controller chip, etc...
    also one last thing. i noticed there are scart cables (made by enthusiasts) that include 75ohm resistors and 220uf caps. if i do the mod and include resistors of my own the way everyone does in their mods, does that mean I should use a "real" scart cable and not one that includes these extra resistors/caps?

    PCBJUNKIE, arcade monitors and i think TV monitors have a B+ trim pot which is around 125vdc. If the B+ voltage is not at 125vdc it will display a scrambled display on the CRT which will look like a sync issue. Why does the B+ voltage need to be set at 125vdc? is this is B+ voltage a bias voltage or DC offset but for what in the monitor circuit is this B+ needed for?

    I have a model with the same chasis, missing the Closed caption board, do you think the same process would work, even though it didn't originally have that daughterboad? thanks in advance.

    • @pcbjunkie1
      @pcbjunkie1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In other Sony TVs that I tried, if the component feeding the RGB input is missing, then the input is usually disabled in software. You'd have to try it to be sure. If you do, please come back and let me know what you find.

      @@pcbjunkie1 Will do, by the way, do you have a picture with a better view of the pcb you made? I'd like to copy your design. Also, I think the service menu may have a way to enable the CC, I'll fiddle with it once i assemble the tv.

    Great video! thanks for sharing. You might want to wire your sync on the luma line of the SVideo port of "video 1".it should give better results.

    I have an old toshiba 27" model mw27f51
    it has built in dvd and vcr. I have service manual and I was wondering if you or anyone, could help me figure out how to mod it. I have looked at the schematic for chroma/if and I've found input for R,G,B,Y .... so do I just snip these and feed RGB and synch here?
    I think this might be an easy mod but I really am not sure. can anyone help me? I'm really wanting to mod this tv.

    mine is one panasonic TC-29FX30L it has rgb in on the chip but it seems to be grounded with some resistors can i just take the pins out of the board and use them?

    • @pcbjunkie1
      @pcbjunkie1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be able to. I don't have a lot of experience with those sets so don't know for sure, but you either unground the pins and inject you signal there and it works, it doesn't work until another control line on the chip is switched on, or it doesn't work at all because the switching to rgb is done via software. You'll either have to read the datasheet for the chip, or experiment.

    Good evening my friend, I have a question! in this TV model; what is the pin in the jungle that activates R.G.B, which voltagen do you use? tv sony kv-2163s ( www.electronica-pt.com/esquema/tv/sony-esquemas-tv/sony-kv-1441b-2158b-2162b-2162s-2163s-1282/ )

    • @pcbjunkie1
      @pcbjunkie1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on the schematic you linked, it's pin 15 (YS). This is TTL logic I believe so it either +5V or ground. I don't remember now if it's high or low for RGB so you'll have to experiment.

    REALLY liked the vid. But (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) you seriously need to work on not saying “uh” every third word. I’ve taken public speaking classes and it’s one of the first things they beat out of you. A second of silence while you gather your thoughts is always better than “filling dead air” with uh’s/um’s.👍🏼

      I agree. I wasn't aware of how bad this is until i watched the recording. Will try to improve in future videos although these are old habits and tough to break. :)
