    The fact that Jeff Davis & Abe Lincoln were both Kentucky natives.. always reminds me how complicated, nuanced, & tragic the Civil War was..

    • @fightme8859
      @fightme8859 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It wasn’t complicated. The confederates wanted slaves and were willing to murder thousands to keep it.

      @@fightme8859 What about the Union soldiers and leaders from slave-holding Union states (MD DE KY). They wanted to keep their slaves (Delaware even rejected Lincoln's offer of compensated emancipation), but were fighting in the Union Army. How does that reality fit into your simplistic, unnuanced (good guy-bad guy) perception of the Civil War (?) peace

    The Frankfort legislature claimed neutrality out of fear. Lincoln threw the entire Maryland legislature in jail with no charge and Kentuckians feared the same. That’s why the Confederate government was established in the southern half and Bowling Green was named the capital. The Confederate flag has 13 stars for a reason, Missouri and Kentucky were formally accepted into the CSA

      Many northern states never teach about Kentucky’s confederate side. People who are bias to the union always like to claim ky as firm union state. It’s not the case. It was arguably as much a rebel state as a union one.

      Lincoln didn't arrest the entire Maryland legislature. Maryland decided a vote for secession required a 2/3rds vote. So Lincoln arrested a little over a 3rd making it impossible for Maryland to have enough votes to secede.

      @thewitheredassassin3412 Kentucky is pretty much always defined as a border state. 2/3s Union vs 1/3 Confederate support by troop enlistment. The nuance is there for anyone willing to read.

    • @thewitheredassassin3412
      @thewitheredassassin3412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both. It was a southern slave state in which its official capital sides with the union. A confederate government was formed and it seceded from the Union on December 10, 1861. It was the 13th state of the confederacy. More soldiers fought for the Union, though a large amount of confederate volunteers fought for the CSA.
