    Thank you! I have watched quite a few videos about erecting a fence and this is the best yet! Everything is really well explained and kept simple. When I erect my fence I'll just have to make a few adjustments to cater for the British weather... by adding a bituminous coating to the bottom of the fence posts to stop them rotting with all our rain!

    My husband and I have been wanting to do our own backyard fencing for quite some time and this is the most helpful video I’ve ever seen on getting this done especially with no help. It would just be the two of us and we’ve never done this before so thank you so much for your really helpful video. We had somebody come out and quote us 5k and we definitely can’t spend that on just a fence that we could put together ourselves. Thanks again

      Hey Sayore58,
      Glad you liked the video. Your own confidence can carry you a long way. Make no mistake though. The digging of the holes is VERY tiring work. The better back-saving way would be to rent a bobcat with a post hole digging attachment ( or something like that ). That way, the vehicle is doing all the lifting of the post hole digger.
      Beyond that, everything else can be managed step by step, bit by bit. Good for you for considering taking on a challenge like that. Take your time, or ask friends to help and you could bang it out in short order. I would have had help except for COVID had just started and there was all this uncertainty.
      Thanks for watching!i

    I really like the look! I guess I would need to put the boards closer together since we have 4 little girls and they would probably try and climb it all the time 😂

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey nco…,
      The posts are every 8 ft and the board lengths are 16 feet. The height of posts are 5 feet. The space between board is somewhere around 3 inches.
      Hope that helps.

    Is there any concern with building a cedar fence with an 8' span between posts? Liking sagging over time?

    Can we add some more wood so it’s not see through ? How long or deep do we dig for the post? You make seem so simple ..wow

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey C E C E…,
      Yes. You can make it with more wood - whatever suits your taste.
      My holes were about 30 inches deep . We have to be below the frost line.
      Thx for watching!

    Looks great. Thanks for sharing the video. Your video gives confident to build the fence myself without breaking the bank. My yard is pretty flat like yours as well. Did Auger help digging the post holes?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Soma,
      Your confidence to take on the task is what we strive to pass on!!
      Very glad to hear that! You’ll save thousands!
      YES - the powered auger was INDISPENSIBLE! Doing it by hand would be brutal, and you still need to use a hand post hole digger to clean out what falls back into the hole.
      If you can find a friend to help, so much the better. But you can do a one man job. You’ll just sleep good at night after digging - the auger was heavy, but dig fast!
      Best wishes. Let us know how it turns out!!
      Thx for watching!

    Looks Nice! Did you put a board at the joints to hide the seams?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Marky,
      Thank you!. The boards just butt up to each other. From inside the yard you don’t see the seams because the posts are in front .
      Thx for watching.

    Fence looks great! I'm thinking of doing something similar with same size cedar but am concerned about the boards sagging over time. Based on your build safe to assume no need to worry? Thanks for posting the video.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert,
      Thanks for the encouragement! I grew up in horse farm country and the style there was a top and bottom horizontal and the mid section forming an “ x with 2 more boards. Can’t say I saw sagging then. We tried to keep the post spacing @8 ft. I guess you could shorten that to 6 ft... but that’s a lot a extra digging! And the cedar we bought from the big box store probably had a fair amount of moisture in them. Over time that will dry out and if anything will want to contract. Before sagging, I’d be most concerned about cedar spitting. That’s why I predrilled the ends of every board. So my 2 cents FWIW would be charge ahead😀 I guess if you get surprised and you see some sag, run out there and flip the board over - problem solved 😎
      You raise a good question and thx for asking. Much success with your fence!

    what is screws brand or types? what is screw size and length? Thanks

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jtouneh,
      They are triple coated deck screws. When buying, you want to make sure they won’t adversely react ( chemically ) with the cedar.
      You can use stainless steel or coated ( ceramic, or some other coating ).
      Read customer reviews to get extra input.
      Hope that helps.

      @Housebarons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jeaangulo,
      Those are 1x6 cedar boards in mostly in 8 or 16 foot lengths.
      Thanks for the question.

    Horizontal fence inside corner…how’s it done

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Fred,
      We did outside corners. Inside corners would require a board ( 2x4 ?) added to each side the post to nail to… OR buy a metal framing bracket whichever you prefer.
      Thx for watching!

      Hey German…,
      Somewhere between 4-5k, less than half of the quote to have it done.
      And that was before the crazy wood price inflation!
      Thx for watching.

    I would use a nail gun with some galvanized nails that way you dont have to pre drill holes and drill
