Having a RO or DI water system is, I think, a must. It protects the machine, gives clean coolant that lasts a long time and it's also great for cleaning products. As a tip for someone else buying a RO or DI system: buy a complete system with a pump and a TDS meter. The pump increases the water pressure in order to get the most RO water from your source and the TDS meter measures the Total Dissolved Solids and this tells you if you need to flush/replace your RO or DI filters. I have a small system with pump, filters and a handheld TDS meter for under USD 100. It is not an "in line filter" and I need to fill a tank before being able to use the water. It is also not for high volumes but it does deliver enough water to keep 2 machines up and running. So even for small shops there is no excuse to not use RO water 🙂
@@vnegron3 This thing is branded "Osmopure" but you'll find similar systems like this under a lot of brands. You'll find these systems being sold with and without a booster-pump. The booster pump increases the pressure on the RO membrane, resulting in a higher yield.
My coworker jokingly said, "I'll give you 500 bucks if you drink that 5 gallon bucket of coolant, haha." I needed the money, so I said, "GAME ON!" So over the 4 days, I drank a little over a gallon per day. Finally, on friday afternoon, with ten guys from the shop standing around me, I finished it off. They clapped and hollared and razzed Jimmy, who threw the 5 100 dollar bills on the bench. Then, the boss came by and said, "This ain't social hour get back to work." I was inconspicuously holding the 500, and boss man noticed but said nothing. Later, I was in the office hitting on the new receptionist with a huge rack and about 110 lbs, fine. The boss walked by and called me in his office. He was awkardly carefull with his words, trying to figure the oddities of the day. The boss said, "I hope you guys werent betting, and I really hope it didnt involve Rachael." I told him it was not technically betting and Rachael wasnt invovled. Dwayne told me he would give me 500 bucks if I drank a 5 gallon bucket of used coolant. Which I successfully did over the past 4 days. My boss said, "Can you repeat that?" Which I did. It looked like steam was about to shpot out of his ears. We continued to chuckle. His face got so red we could barely hold in our laughter. Bart and Billy got suspended for 3 days and i was sent to the hospital for a stimach pump that never actually happened. I was fine other than blurry vision, so mow I wear contacts which have cost way more than 500 bucks. So in the end I lost.
When you are feeding many machines a day ( We had 70+) and constantly re filling them every morning, DI or RO water gets pretty expensive. We went to a centralized Soft water system and fed it all over the plant. Was a good compromise cost wise... Had mixers at every machine cell. We also used Blasers in 90% of our machines. We ended up with Cincinnati CimCool in our grinders. Just worked better for some reason. Another tip is to run Skimmers in every sump to skim out way and tramp oil. Kept coolant much cleaner...We ran 2000 PSI coolant in half of our machines and was not uncommon to dump in 10-15 gal a day, lost to mist, evap/high heat tools and pockets in parts....

We tried 735 in our shop. We leased a DI water system, cleaned out a machine and set it up. The team nearly mutinied from the smell of the DI water. Do you have any tips to avoid the rotten egg smell?
Really curious if you guys had issues with the mixer "mixing" properly with such a long hose on the outlet? We have the exact setup and found we were limited to a 10-15' outlet hose. Otherwise the mixer is great
@@TITANSofCNC thanks the biggest problem we have is our coolant turns blue and becomes really sticky. Didn't know if this being clear would prevent that from happening.
It cost me around $250 from my supplier for a 5 gallon pail, I have it running in a tormach 1100mx, the coolants tormach sells are around $40-50 a gallon so it was very comparable.
@@santee6399 agreed, that would make it alot easier. But then MSC would list it for $450 for 5 gal. Lol. Just find a distributor and asked them for a quote. Then all you have to do is call them with a credit card. That's how our parents ordered EVERYTHING before amazon spoiled us all. . . . .
Couldn't find a distributor in my area. So, I sent a message to Blaser USA and never got a response. I should not have mentioned I only needed a 5 gallon pail. Next time I'll say I need 10 55-gallon drums and maybe I will get a response.
Im my job the Boss is using normal water from the pipes and the coolant os getting real bad when summer comes. From white its goind dark. I cant understand polish buisnessmans. Want only money whithout cost
doesn't it affect the machine? I mean we did that once in our shop and the machine bed, rotary index started to rust rapidly and were forced to add coolant in two days later

What is the name/brand/model of this small RO system you're using?

Great tip on how to get the most out of your coolant and a great way to make sure that your machine is running at optimal performance.
My HAAS VF-OE is now in my garage. Not all hooked up yet, but getting there.
Congrats

I used to work with refractometers, so it's always interesting seeing it in application.
Got them knipex pliers 👍🏻

We use this system for nuclear product machining. They're very picky about coolants, oils even the paint markers we use.
Using high purity markers

I think the tempeture is wrong. We got a grey fking smell bitch ass coolant on every summer. On winter its normal. Plus good quality od coolant
I just had a conversation last night with a guy about coolant and DI systems. Someone is trying to tell me something!!
@val milos I have used Blaser for years and it's great. Not sure what issues you had with it.
@val milos so what problems are you seeing if you run at 100% feedrate with Blaser?
One thing that hasn't changed much for a few years now is water based cooling.
When we going to see oil cooling
When they find out an oil non-flamable :)
There is oil cooling
Will use oil for our new grinders
We run oils in our Swiss machines.

Yes, we ended up having issues because of the length of hose.
We mix into an empty barrel and then pump that throughout the shop. Works great!
Do you reuse that coolant after filtration?
What kind of coolant would you recommend for red and yellow brass.
Brass is real soft... Synergy would be great I assume but would recommend talking to BLASER to find out more.

Is the concentration between 7-10% of coolant ?
how is it with brass?
Beautiful coll
What made you choose DI over Reverse Osmosis?
SpaceX had requested we use it
What is the lifetime of your coolant with these RO and DI methods?
We get amazing life. Actually didn’t change out Synergy 735 for over 2 years... just topped it off.
The synergy is so expensive though. I want to use it, my robodrill is empty and clean. Just saving money to buy synergy
It’s not cheap but is competitive with other coolants that can machine aluminum and all high end materials. It also never goes rancid and is clear.

Love it!
Awesome!
Older style of pliers wrench... a man of culture it seems.
wish it was easier to find small quantity's for small guys that want to try it.
I buy it 5 gal at a time. Once a year. You do have to find a distributor. But they will still sell it to you.
More and more people use it in small quantities... even saltwater aquarium stores.
Like why don't they sell it from MSC? How many people do I need to talk to to order some?

Of course you would put fancy water in fancy coolant
In Bangalore (India), almost all shops use DI water. It's like using tap water is unheard of. The water costs around 70liters/USD.
Bacteria and md growing in your sumps that could affect the machinists. Health? Yea most shops know this..
