Why would they cover Smith, Brown or Barkley? They aren’t commanders who were traded. Dotson was that’s the only reason they are talking about him. This guy is a commander reporter explaining to commander fans why they did the trade.
Or.....Orrrr you can take a look at Ron Rivera's 1st Rd draft picks over the last 5 years and realize that he constantly reached and over drafted players Jahan was projected to be a mid 2nd rounder... Had a decent rookie year mostly because he was in camp getting chemistry with Carson Wentz while Terry was holding out. Once the league figured he can't beat press coverage which was a knock on him coming out of college it was wraps...
The thing is, he will flourish under Kellen Moore's route tree system thinning out coverage for Brown and Smith, its the perfect situation for the tools he brings. You can't compare what he was in Washington to what he will be under Philadelphia's system sharing turf with, Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Godert, and Sequon Barkley. Washington may have needed to move off Dotson but, sending him to Philadelphia was about the worse way to do it.
Quinn isn't worried about Dotson 'cause he's got his hands full with Brown, Smith, Barkley, Goedert, and Hurts. Dotson will be one-on-one with a safety or the third cornerback. He'll have a lot of space and will always know he's going to be one-on-one. By the way, on the Eagles, he's the sixth option on the team.
Newsflash! It is going to snow in DC tomorrow. Hoffman said he was not going to do something arrogant. Since that is what is at the core of his personality, get your galoshes ready people.....
@@dmvbay2535 Yeah it reminds me of his argument last year that the O line wasn't really that bad, what a joke. Did our starting left tackle for most of the year even get picked up by a team. I think Leno may end up retiring unless a team gets desperate.
Every team can be beat. They were almost beaten twice by an average QB in Sam Howell, adding Dotson isn't going to make the Eagles more of a threat than any other Sunday.
Then your vision is limited unable to see how he fits into Moore's system. He changes the entire offense just by being on the field due to the coverage weaknesses he will create that others can exploit. He will do great damage without even getting a look but, he will be open more than ever when Brown is doubled, Smith is stretching the field, Hurts ties up a spy, and Barkley's double threat puts the whole defense off balancel. Nobody can cover all that?
The Questions is how can Dotson do as a slot WR ? The eagles didnt get him to become a #1 or # 2 WR. hes a #3 only so how does he do behind A.J Brown and Devonte Smith ?
Players are like cars. Ron purchased a vehicle and didn’t realize it was overpriced. AP realized it and immediately traded it in for reasonable value and before it depreciated further. The Eagles did a great job at picking up a relatively low mileage pre-owned with a clear cut car fax that says you’re not going to get your fifth year option. And I want to say that 1st rounders only last about 4-5 years if they don’t play up to expectation. Jahan would been better off being drafted in the round he was projected. He’d still be on the team IMO.
@Lilrio2xx Craig does get it. The problem is that our fanbase is full of 1 marshmallow kids. The Eagles are in their window now. Ours will open in about 2 years. The more draft capital that we aquire, the quicker that we'll get there. The Eagles are on the down slope. They just don't know it yet.
You gotta understand that this fan base has severe trauma from 30 years of mismanagement. A lot of the opinions and frustration stem from this. Jahan was also a pretty good guy and someone that was easy to root for. Trading him when we have such a lack of talent after Terry is having to face the fact that we have a serious lack of talent on this team. Especially compared to the Bears that also have a highly touted rookie QB.
The point is not that Jahan is "awesome". It's that he is worth more than moving from around #138 in the 2025 draft (Commanders 5th round pick, assuming optimistically that Commanders have the 10th worst record in 2024) to around #92 in the 2025 draft (Eagles' third round pick, assuming Eagles have the 5th BEST record this year. A typical 5th for a 3rd trade between teams that are fairly equal would constitute a move up of ~60 places in the draft. Not so here. Meantime, what we have left for number 2 receiver is a proven mediocrity (Zaccheus) or a kid with potential that has never been realized so far (Brown).
Why does he need a wake-up call? Yes, as a first rounder, we probably hoped he could be a primary weapon and he may have wanted that to. In an offenses that uses him to draw attention mostly, he could thrive for 8-9 years. Its not his numbers that should scare you, its the extra bump he gives the other guys because you just gave them a piece that keeps your defense from cheating.
Even in the hypothetical (and I think unlikely) universe where Dotson is really valuable for Philly, he wasn't going to be that here, and it still makes sense to get rid of him to make ourselves better through adding draft capital. Especially in this coming draft which many are expecting to be uncommonly deep. I think the whole "trade within the division" trope is massively overblown. Yes, I'd love for my division rival to not get better, but if I get better, then I'm better off for the OTHER 15 games of the year plus playoffs. I'm also better positioned relative to the other two division rivals. Any trade that makes my team better is worth doing, regardless of whether it's against my rival.
Its funny how everyone talks about last year but didn't he have Howell as a QB..Every WR numbers dipped with him as QB. Huge mistake trading him to Philly. Just watch!!
