You have to admit, Zack might be stupid, but he is a nice person. They could have never done that with Kurt.
Agreed, Kurt is kind of those people who never grew out of high school mindset and thinks that bullying people who are physically weaker is fun. Zack is those people who might not be smart, but at least he doesn't intentionally hurt others, he really does want to fit in into the group.

Even though Zack was Penny's boyfriend, like a villain in the story, he was a nice guy in the show. Probably, the only recurring character, who didn't hurt another person. Coolest person in the show.

I love how quickly Zack forgave them all when Sheldon gave him the snacks. I love that he still wanted to hang out with them and go to the comic book store. Brains are not everything, he had such a good atitude and genuinely wanted to be friends with them, it makes him very likeable.

Zack's dumb but he's more likeable than Sheldon. He also does not hold grudges, which is quite an endearing trait.
oh u joking right? Sheldon is Sheldon, and without being kind of an a-hole it would be no Big Bang Theory, and he is most beloved character of the show. Zack was funny yes but just guest star. To be honest first 6 seasons were the best and everything was funny.
You're probably right, as the show revolves round him, although I tend to like it in spite of Sheldon rather than because of him. Also it is often the guest stars that make it interesting, for me at least. Zach, Stuart, Alex for example.

The irony though...Sheldon said that producers make the seasons worse and worse so that the viewers won't feel so bad when it ends. Season 4 was the beginning of the end for me.

Penny was right. They may have been bullied but it didn’t make them compassionate- it just made them bitter. They picked on Zac because he was a physical representation of the “hot dumb jock” they loathed so much but unlike that jock and Kurt, he was a good guy who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and to them too stupid to catch on, and if he did wouldn’t beat them up for it.
That’s what happens to everyone like them including me it’s really easy to stereo type and not give people a chance just because they are similar to the people that made are lives terrible I’m not saying that people should do it I’m saying it’s easy
True. A good amount of people who have been bullied for their interests fall into stereotyping people later on , its happened to me before but i grew out of it

Penny genuinely makes a great point and so does this show. I'm sure every smart kid has-been bullied by someone like Zak but most people grow up and gain some prospective. Maybe Zak is the one who is lonely now and needs friends. As Penny said for a group that was bullied doesn't give anyone the morale high ground to then bully someone else. Zak in this comes across really likeable and I can relate as the smart kid I've made friends with people I wouldn't have been friends with at school aka the cool kids. But everyone deserves a chance.

Are you sure you aren't thinking one of Penny's other boyfriends? I remember there was at least one other dumb boyfriend she had that actually was a bully and I think he mooched off of her. I am actually curious, I have looked at a list of episodes Zack was in and can't find any mentions of him being mean in any of them. In fact I only see the opposite, him showing Leonard a video of Penny admitting she loved Leonard and only dumped him cause she was scared of commitment and later offering Penny and Leonard a large sum of money if Leonard would donate sperm so Zack and his wife could conceive a child.
On another note, I could understand why the group bullied Zack, not saying it was right but I understand it. He has money, looks, athletic ability, and is very dumb, those are all traits of typical popular kids in high school that would bully people like them. So with all that they see him as a representation of those that bullied them and either don't realize or can't believe that Zack is genuinely a nice guy.
I really have no sympathy for bullies in high school who "grow up" and are lonely or depressed in present day. No sympathy whatsoever. Shouldn't have been a shitty person.

Knew a guy in college who was built like a tank , definitely gymrat type intimidating but got to know him personally and he was always nice.and helpful to everyone and soft spoken. Later found out he was a big nerd and geek in the group.

The first scene never fails to break my heart. Zach genuinely thought they were having fun and bonding but they were just being absolutely disgusting. This scene just makes me sad and uncomfortable. I know they apologized but it always made me look at them differently, knowing they could be so cruel.
They never behaved like this again, though (apart from Sheldon and his typical blunt obliviousness). It was an eye opener, what Penny told them.

Brian Everett i wouldn't call them bullies. They didn't go out of their way to find Zac and bother him. He literally went into their home to 'talk science with the science guys' which is fine but he fucked up at the point that he didn't know these guys always pick on other for stuff. Zac chose his destiny. I am not defending anybody. Just saying THIS is not bullying. Repeating Penny won't make your opinion any more logical.

The universality of such aa phenomenon was distinctly demonstrated by the Strange Situation experiment where an insecure-resistant attachment type would easily transform into those being a bullied. That's kinda like authoritarian personality

I kinda wish Penny was an outcast in school that nobody liked them. So when high school freshman year started, puberty hit her and turned her attractive, which she doesn't understand it until the end of high school. So Penny understands how it is being outcasts but not intelligent. That's how Penny and Leanord end up together.

The writers are incredibly smart for constrasting Sheldon a person who lacks any form of social ability with Zach a person who does, and showing they both respect the universally forgiving nature of the milk dud.

I think Zack should’ve been a permanent addition to the cast. I SAID IT. We needed one other character to not be a nerd - not necessarily to be with Penny. He was handsome, sweet, positive, and joyful. Him dressed as Superman? He fit in with the gang!!
The one thing that I think makes the behavior of the group so mean spirited is that not only does Zach not belittle their status as nerds but is actually has a genuine interest in their work however cursory it may be. Im an electrical engineer and i specialized in semiconductor devices and i absolutely LOVE when ppl ask me about how transistors work from channel length, to parasitic capacitance's to analog vs digital. That they would go so out of their way to mock someone who was not only neutral but actually excited to hear about what they do is just such a dick move

Well, zach is half right lol… I actually had to Google it but breaking a starfish in pieces which may appear as if youre “killing them” they can regenerate lost limbs. It dies tho when it is out of water as it can’t breathe… but oh well…. Penny and Zach fits each other intellectually
