Good advice and troubleshooting about checking a circuit under load. Although using one's body is not advised. Especially taking that current right across the chest. Even I as an electronics tech can be fooled by that one. Usually we see power supplies that wont take a load. But, in the end your deductions are correct. One other thing, That connector is probably just for assembly purposes. I would have opened it up and inspected it and yes may be spliced the whole cable since the car will not be assembled again and is thus not necessary.
Question, how can you take "current across your chest" with a 12 volt car battery. Serious question.... Please don't answer it applying logic that pertains to 100/220 volt AC circuits or 400 volt DC circuits. I was applying the application here with the 12 volt DC circuit.
@@SouthMainAuto Point taken. It is only 12V . But, still as an electronic tech I would avoid becoming part of any circuit. It's just safety habits. Like never pointing a gun at anyone even if it is unloaded.

If wire is so corroded with Salt or whatever it simply refuses to flow electrons thus you have Lack of Current--Your Situation Testing Power to Lift Gate which you explained to your Audience....
Brad, I’m on a smoke break in my garage, so let me help you understand, if you don’t mind. Change the context a bit,,,,, you have a small import car with a good battery. Your dad has a Duramax pick up with a set of dead batteries. Your car is 12 volts, so is your dad’s . You have a $10.00 set of booster cables. You hook up, dad turns the key, puff, cables burn! Not voltage,,,,,, Amp draw ! Eric jumped the hatch motor , boom, worked . Under dash fuse,, good,, 12v. Go to module , 12v ? Trunk latch motor needs +/- 6-9 amps to operate ! Eric’s tailite bulb needs 12v but needs +/- 1.5 amps to light,, no light up ? Bad wire or connector! Hunt & seek! The rest is Elimentory My Dear Watson ! Hope that helps.

Nice job as usual. I don't know why your shop is not the first choice for more folks in your area. As you said, you seem to be the last resort for many. Should charge a higher diagnostic charge if others have tried but failed before you.
thank you, Eric, for my lunch time entertainment...you're the best on the tube for sure,,,,you really deserve an Emmy
Excellent diagnosis and explanation as always
Many learned in Electrical Class that Voltage is only the Push of Electrons--BUT--it can only Push as much as the Wire will Allow, if wire is Small--resistance builds up and Heat which sometimes will cause a Fire. If wire is so corroded with Salt or whatever it simply refuses to flow electrons thus you have Lack of Current--Your Situation Testing Power to Lift Gate which you explained to your Audience....
You are the master!! That 12 volts at that terminal would have thrown me into the wrong direction. Learned alot from this video!
Eric is the man!
As usual, excellent troubleshooting with excellent explanation. Thank you
The only man in the world that can smell a broken wire. 👍
Another great diagnostic video. Thanks Eric for bringing us along on the journey
Thanks, greetings from the UK. I like these diagnostic vids the best, and you are very good at them.
The salt belt where you are looks ferocious, cars rusting out in 10 years.
Never an easy to get to wire plug, always have to take half of something apart !!! At least you had a little extra wire to join the two wires back together !!!!!!! Good diagnosis !!!!
Nice diag and fix, bought a suv no power lift gate👍
Excellent work finding the fault.
Makes one wonder why an industry standard with pin 1 or 2 as a ground.
Nice vid.
i always learn watching these videos. i really liked the way you used the power probe. thank you!
After watching your videos for a couple of years I detect a pattern on most electrical issues on cars from the PRNY. They are invariably caused by either salt corrosion or rodents. Makes me glad I live in Florida. No salt on roads here and though we have rodents they don't seem to make nests in warm automobiles often (they prefer cool spots!)
Can you imagine the car problems you would have in Florida if alligators were the size of mice? LOL. I watch your Tuba Skinny videos all the time.
@@larrykeenan598 Hah! It's a small world on TH-cam.
@@JamesSterling Isn't that the truth. UTube has indeed expanded my world.
What a great lesson with the multi meter,
Ive seen rust on cars in your videos that hail from NY that I never thought could be possible I've known about the rust belt but Holy Guacamole
Man, can’t believe you blew the money shot! Such a let down 😂 Keep up the good videos, nice example of ghost voltage.
...NOBODY'S INFALLIBLE-!!!
Nice work ! Not many machanics would mess with that stuff
Great troubleshooting. Electrical can get you. I notice moisture in the spare tire area of my 06 Oddy. Sealed the channel on top but never thought about the door cable area letting water in. Thanks.
Nice diagnosis and fix Mr. O!
👍Eric ! I love the salt belt, still keeps me busy @ 72 yrs young ! Rusty body with wiring issues, can do it all day, every day ! Don’t need a strong back anymore, when you’ve got grey hair , can still see , & a few brain cells left ! LOL. Good Fix ! Tailight Warranty !
Another good video! Hondas are usually much easier than most to repair.
SOUTHMAINAUTO plates! Must be a superfan!
Like the video especially when you learn something new- about voltage and resistance
This getting old thing is starting to suck. No truer words were ever spoken!
Exactly why you need a meter, and a test light. This has got me before, I used a meter have voltage replaced back up alarm, didn't work, when I used my test light would not light up test light. I found a wire partly broken would alow current, but not enough voltage to light up light
Get a newer low amp/ volt test light ! They work every time !
Eric the wire whisperer strikes again!!!.. Great content as usual, excellent teaching video. Love your stuff. Greetings from Lake City 🇺🇸🌴😎
